Alternative lifeline idea: the hunter says a section of the map, and the speed runner answers if they're in that region or not. It encourages good guessing and doesn't trivialize the speedrunner's efforts at going unnoticed since the Hunters still have a chance to guess wrong
Another idea could be an item query (e.g. "do you have dream nail" or some other check) which helps confirm in cases like this when the hunters missed fire getting key items.
The item query idea is cool but I feel like the answer is almost always going to be C-Dash or Dream mail since those are by far the two most important items, which might make them uninteresting strategy wise. Might be wrong of course
For item query, make it so you can only ask about each item once. i.e. once the hunters have asked about Dream nail, they can't ask for Dream nail check again.

As funny as that would be, it wasn't just to taunt the hunters. Dream nail gives triple the soul your regular nail does (without charms) whenever you hit an enemy with it, but doesn't deal any damage of course. This is enough soul to cast a spell or focus, making well timed dream nails surprisingly useful. Watcher Knights in particular are a pretty easy dream nail target as the roar when they wake up immobilizes them, but not you, and there is a brief window towards the end of that roar where they are vulnerable to attacks. Basically, Fire was farming soul off the Watcher Knight that just spawned, rather than taunting the hunters. And fire has to try to go past them somehow. 8 hunters would be easy mode, because they could just go one person to one area and he would never go past them unnoticed.
I think its unfair that it was randomised for the hunters too, actually, considering the skill gap. Imo it would've been more balanced if it were randomised for fire but not the hunters/if the hunter's interval was longer at least. Not sure if the mod could accommodate smth like that tho
A close race against the hunters is a blast to watch. A landslide victory however was also incredibly satisfying to experience. One of my favorite ruleset variations in the series! Great job with this video, hoping to see more of this (but way meaner to the speedrunner next time >:D )
You did amazing. I can barely remember what button it is to jump most days, so I think you did great with what you had! It was wonderful watching you all!
No lifelines was really tough, I feel like the hunters need at least one between the four of them, or maybe like one lifeline every 30 minutes left on the clock
You absolutely boondoggled them, glorious display Fireborn. I was thrilled to see a new Speedrunner Hunt video go up, I hope you continue to post them in the future :)
I'm sure Fire was disoriented a lil after each randomize but his pace didn't show it at all. I steadily felt more and more anxious for the hunters lol This was an impressive run, gg to both Fire and the hunters!! 👏👏👏
Honestly this is the funniest hunters ep to watch, I honestly believe their biggest downfall was consistently trying to gaurd sanctum instead of spreading out to have more eyes on the lookout for fire.
It's always really cool watching a speedrunner go through the game, I always love really taking my time so I'm always amazed how quickly games can actually be completed. The fact you were fighting against 4 other people while dealing with changing controls and still completed the game well under an hour is just so cool to me
These are so fun to watch largely to me because they show how many things you can do once you have dash and claw. There were so many possibilities they were trying to math out and figure out and it was super interesting to see
Wow, I didn’t watch his video because I didn’t think swapped controls would be an interesting topic, but I watched it because I was bored, and it had the absolute best turn around ever, I regret not watching it earlier.
I think this shows how hunters really need SOME source of information that confirms/refutes their assumptions. Maybe instead of location information, have it be loadout information? You tried previously the whole "you each get 1 check at the map", but maybe have that be a "you each get check at the item tracker" (which you share with them) In this case, they could have checked at some point to see that you DO have CDash and realize that they had it all wrong. Love this series and would love to see some more. It's just so hard to get the right balance for it - not too much info so that you can trick the hunters, but enough so that they can actually do something to you.
A long time ago, I played Sonic Colors. I had completely forgotten about it until I watched this video, and recognized one of the songs. It was a wisp of a memory I tugged at. Something I knew was just past the surface of my mind that I couldn't reach. Thank you
I really enjoy the episodes of this with no/limited lifelines. It changes it from a game of brute forcing past the hunters, into a game of deception and stealth.
5:56 it would be interesting to see this with the roles reversed, the hunters have a combat advantage or equal strength but the speedrunner can outrun them.
I feel like that would always just end up as him pretty much ignoring them. They'll get a hit in here and there, but he'll always just continue on his way and break away.
Might be interesting to see just Fire's controls switch with the other rules from this staying the same. Unless that's been done in which case would someone point me in the right direction of that video
It took me a sec to figure out why the hunters missed him c-dashing, but they must have assumed another hunter was c-dashing there. It was really fun listening to this group strategize though, very smart and they worked well together, I think they just missed some key intel.
It'd be lovely to see more different parts of the game. Maybe you could do a randomized run with the items revealed, and a bit of prep time before you start.
This is what sheer willpower looks like. Having to adjust your mind to the controls every couple of minutes and survive till the end while being hunted is insane.
My favorite juke this session was when the girl (sorry I’m bad with names) was chasing Fire into Fingal Wastes but he enters it, waits a split second and then dashed back through the entrance again right when she was walking through it. While he was heading in a new direction having lost his pursuer, she was diving deep into Fingal Wastes thinking she was right on his tail.
This is one of my favorite videos of this! The jukes! And the one moment they forgot that might have gotten them the win. If anyone had remembered he had already gotten C-Dash, they would probably would have had someone at Black Egg or changed their positions.
Its really fun to imagine that the hunters are trying to stop you from getting stronger on the premise that they would lose, but not because its a game, but because we're following an interesting story. Its very fun to watch the cutscenes and our silent knight trying so hard to complete their task while these 4 hunters are trying to hunt him down and kill him. Each cutscene makes it feel so real like an actual story with plot rather than a simple game. Its just fun to imagine.
I watched back through the run, Fire didn't die to hunters once the entire run... I think genuinely, the keybinding switching helped fire significantly more than it hurt him, and so putting the additional restriction of no hints basically doomed the hunters from the start in this one. If you do this same concept in future, I propose either slightly lessening the hint punishment (still give them the maphint, but either only 1, or something less powerful such as only being able to answer a yes or no question "are you in X area, yes or no" for ex, rather than them knowing exactly where you are), or slightly lessen the keybinding aspect, either by going against hunters with more experience with the mod so it becomes less of a hindrance, or have it affect like, slightly less of their keybinds compared to you. Video was still incredibly entertaining! sometimes it is fun to just watch a onesided beatdown, but obviously close matches will be more engaging long term, so just my thoughts on how to make this concept more fair, since frankly, I don't think this being so onesided was simply a fluke.
This is something I miss from the old PvH videos. The moments when Fire completely jukes someone and they have no clue where he is or what he’s doing. Though I’m glad this was a one off occasion to balance the random control scheme.
i wish i was good at animating because the potential for twists when seeing this from the hunters' perspective could probably get me an oscar or something like that
The best part of every Hunters vs Speederunner is hunters trying to guess what would fire do. Bonus points if they have some crazy idea like "he is in Deepnest" at the beginning of the game or even opposite. He actually goes there and they search for him in Greenpath for example. I could never play the game with keybinds being different, let alone having them reset every 2 minutes. The Hornet Arena escape was amazing. I agree that it was very lucky. You were ambushed by 3 or 4 people here (I think?) and usually that means huge disadvantage. And You actually almost dying is a great proof of that. That's the part I love. You juking them into thinking You're somewhere else so they keep chasing a ghost, meanwhile You have a peace to do something else. Hunters: Carefully craft a plan to ambush fire in Shroomal Ogres fire: Going through the Gruz Mother "We know he's in Fungal Wastes. We saw him in Fungal Wastes specifically" I died. If I was a Hunter against fire I would be paranoid that fire is everywhere on the map and nowhere to be found at the same time. "I mean it's also possible that he bought lantern and he's in Crystal Peak right now" 😂 You having Dream Nail when they don't know about it may let You get Herrah, because You also have a lantern. I hope You'll manage to do something like that! They really think You didn't get Crystal Heart and Dream Nail, lmao. That's even better, because they try to convince themselves that You don't have these items. "He might be trying to fool us" I think he already did… I can't blame the Hunters for forgetting You have a Crystal Heart. Given that You confused them so much they mix what was real and what were their speculations… They just started to question their own memory and knowledge. They are just so lost of what You do, did or may do, that they can't really find the answer. "He doesn't have Monomon. There's no way he has Monomon" No… I can't… XD Someone has seen You in the way to Soul Sanctum, when you were at Black Egg Temple. Do they start seeing things from this paranoia? 😂 Their shock when You typed "done". This is gold.
Its so funny hearing the hunters trying their hardest to find out where to go to defend and where to kill him, while fire is just casually beating the game.

One of my favorite ruleset variations in the series! Great job with this video, hoping to see more of this (but way meaner to the speedrunner next time >:D )
Hunters: spend half the game at Sanctum
Fire: Anywhere but Sanctum
This was so much fun! Although I probably should have practiced with keybind rando beforehand 😂
You did amazing. I can barely remember what button it is to jump most days, so I think you did great with what you had! It was wonderful watching you all!
No lifelines was really tough, I feel like the hunters need at least one between the four of them, or maybe like one lifeline every 30 minutes left on the clock
What about hunters being other speadruners
yeah- I don't think it was the right way to balance out the mod being in play.
"he cant go to crystal peaks without dive"
fire:procides to do it any way
And this is why having help for finding the speedrunner is very helpful. Most of the run the Hunters had 0 idea where he was.
36:03
"He's in sanctum! We got him right where we want him!"
*god gamer on his way to beat the game*
You absolutely boondoggled them, glorious display Fireborn. I was thrilled to see a new Speedrunner Hunt video go up, I hope you continue to post them in the future :)
Soo hilarious to see everyone struggling with the controls but everyone did good at the end, loved the video.
I'm sure Fire was disoriented a lil after each randomize but his pace didn't show it at all.
I steadily felt more and more anxious for the hunters lol
This was an impressive run, gg to both Fire and the hunters!! 👏👏👏
I'm surprised that there wasn't a melee in the Hollow Knight fight between all of them. Awesome episode!
Honestly this is the funniest hunters ep to watch, I honestly believe their biggest downfall was consistently trying to gaurd sanctum instead of spreading out to have more eyes on the lookout for fire.
This is fun to watch. And it helps distract the pain of my recovery... wisdom. Teeth suck...
Hope you feel better soon!
This was maybe his most impressive run yet, wow
I know it’s over a year ago but I just noticed at 13:57 Fire passes straight through one of the exploding bulbs.
Yeah, they don't have a hitbox the instant they're shot. It appears a second after.
the more you know
It's always really cool watching a speedrunner go through the game, I always love really taking my time so I'm always amazed how quickly games can actually be completed. The fact you were fighting against 4 other people while dealing with changing controls and still completed the game well under an hour is just so cool to me
honestly with how confused the hunters were this episode Fire would have probably still won if only Fire had changing controls
Any new fireborn manhunt video is a blessing
The moment they were tricked 10 minutes in actually broke them so bad they couldn't cope
I really enjoy the vibes w/ the lack of a map lifeline, makes it really interesting when the efforts to fool them come into play honestly
Now I understand why hunters have sound queues and lifelines lol
She went on about guarding soul sanctum the entire hunt and my guy did not even go there 😂
rip me i'm in the acid
good ending: you have ismas
Rip
Rip
Rip
rip
22:20 fire saved a grub without blacking out the screen. He has joined the dark side.
New Achievement: Ghost
Man broke so many ankles they thought he only have 1 or 2 dreamers when he's INSIDE final boss, that's insanity...
I couldn't help but keep giggling after you got Lurien and everyone was like "Oh let's protect Monomon" while you were in the final boss
These are so fun to watch largely to me because they show how many things you can do once you have dash and claw. There were so many possibilities they were trying to math out and figure out and it was super interesting to see
I like how they saw you c dash twice and forgot you already had crystal heart
Wow, I didn’t watch his video because I didn’t think swapped controls would be an interesting topic, but I watched it because I was bored, and it had the absolute best turn around ever, I regret not watching it earlier.
you should play hollow knight with input delay to celebrate the silksong delay
“Done.”
“Done what, all the dreamers?”
“Radiance.”
“WHAT!?”
“*absolute radiance”
I think this shows how hunters really need SOME source of information that confirms/refutes their assumptions. Maybe instead of location information, have it be loadout information? You tried previously the whole "you each get 1 check at the map", but maybe have that be a "you each get check at the item tracker" (which you share with them)
In this case, they could have checked at some point to see that you DO have CDash and realize that they had it all wrong.
Love this series and would love to see some more. It's just so hard to get the right balance for it - not too much info so that you can trick the hunters, but enough so that they can actually do something to you.
"We've got him RIGHT where we want him!"
But they didn't have him where they wanted him.
The number of times a hunter shouted "What is my nail button?!" while chasing fire was hilarious
This is definitely my all time favorite of this series. It's great when it's closer and more competitive, but this one is the funniest
It was so crazy to see him adapt to the new keybinds within like seconds, while the hunters take so much longer. God gamer moves
Glad to see more Hunters v Speedrunner! Definitely one of my fav HK series on TH-cam.
“I’m guarding Cdash”
“I’m in sanctum”
Fire: *in hollow knight second phase*
😂
“You mean done one of the dreamers, right?”
…
“Right?”
This is crazy, he’s actually better then they can comprehend
And this is why they require life lines to stand up against fire's skills
Love this you guys especially friendly fire it makes them actually think about instead of just mob stack and waxk with zero regard
Though I’m glad this was a one off occasion to balance the random control scheme.
i wish i was good at animating because the potential for twists when seeing this from the hunters' perspective could probably get me an oscar or something like that
wake up babe firstborn uploaded a new speedrunner vs hunter video
38:20 "We never saw you C dash" you called it out in resting grounds lmao😂😂😂
Hunter: he is at infected crossroads. HE IS GOING TO GET DREAM NAIL😂😂😂😂😂 WHAT?!
Hunters: Carefully craft a plan to ambush fire in Shroomal Ogres
fire: Going through the Gruz Mother
"We know he's in Fungal Wastes. We saw him in Fungal Wastes specifically"
I died. If I was a Hunter against fire I would be paranoid that fire is everywhere on the map and nowhere to be found at the same time.
"I mean it's also possible that he bought lantern and he's in Crystal Peak right now" 😂
You having Dream Nail when they don't know about it may let You get Herrah, because You also have a lantern. I hope You'll manage to do something like that!
They really think You didn't get Crystal Heart and Dream Nail, lmao. That's even better, because they try to convince themselves that You don't have these items.
"He might be trying to fool us"
I think he already did…
I can't blame the Hunters for forgetting You have a Crystal Heart. Given that You confused them so much they mix what was real and what were their speculations… They just started to question their own memory and knowledge. They are just so lost of what You do, did or may do, that they can't really find the answer.
"He doesn't have Monomon. There's no way he has Monomon"
No… I can't… XD
Someone has seen You in the way to Soul Sanctum, when you were at Black Egg Temple. Do they start seeing things from this paranoia? 😂
Their shock when You typed "done". This is gold.
Doing thk with only vengeful is absurd, well played fire
Its so funny hearing the hunters trying their hardest to find out where to go to defend and where to kill him, while fire is just casually beating the game.
I enjoyed this video so much, please keep making these! Can't wait for the next one and the amazing strategys fire comes up with :)
If there are future SvH or other competitions with changing keybind, I'd love to see a hand cam
For potential panik moments when the keybind changes 😂
