I love the content sammit! Coolest old turbo I've ever seen. I'd never suggest someone blow up an engine but it's science. And we need to know if this set up works.
ive done a turbo 20e build before, 20det head fits (20de doesn't fit because of piston clearance) we just ran 7psi. it was a really nice engine to drive, alot less lag then a normal 20det
@@samjc5197 rb20de head works perfectly fine on the 20e block, there's not alot different between a 20de cylinder head and 20det. The motor gets higher compression because of the 20e piston style. I've made a video about it. Check it out
@@nasanieru3375 id disagree, the combustion chamber on a de/det in rb20s is quite alot different, a rb20det has higher compression pistons then a rb20de. if you have them local have a look, rb20de dome down. rb20det dome up. so a rb20de block, det head is actually lower comp then a det (this only applies to the r32 rb20s) im shocked the 20de fitted but thats awesome man! id love to know its comp ratio?

I wouldn't say they were the weakest. Maybe the most neglected...but not the weakest. I reckon the rb30 series 1 na would be the weakest RB out of the lot
@@Punk510 yeah bro, that guy is not sure about what he is saying, the 20s are the strongest, the blocks are thicker due to piston size and the stroke is short so it can rev to the moon, u are more likely to break a bigger engine especially if it detonates. We work with RB engine all the time years now. The rb20e also came as a turbo engine called the rb20et. I have an rb20e in my r33 here in Australia and also couldn’t find anything about rb30 parts fitting so this video has cleared that up for me. If you are interested in selling parts I will be willing to buy.
I get the excitement with this little project. Simple stuff that doesn’t cost a ton is excellent. I love oddball stuff and I was hoping you were going na build and nitrous but this is next best for sure. And this might actually make power. LoL. Can’t wait to see this rip.
Great Video Sam, So happy to see your enthusiasm for this project. I really hope you do end up with a crazy drift build at the end of it all. PS Yes to link ECU and coil packs if it isn't too much trouble
I think you're going to be surprised. SOHC engines tend to have really good exhaust flow from a single large valve and spool bigger turbos pretty quick. Won't make as much power through the intake side but the turbo will probably spool faster on that than it would on an RB20DET
Awesome Sammy! I can't wait to see when it's done. I want that turbo badly! Lol. I did a R32 RB25DE-T and luckily that the block has all the plugs that I need to connect the lines to the turbo. Too bad I didn't do a before/after for hp/tq so I'll know how much power gained. With the HKS GT2530 KAI. My turbo maxed at 14 psi at 313 hp 312 tq. Now, I'm aiming for at least 380-400 hp and will need head studs and head gasket before for big power. Overall, I love the powerband as is. Oh yeah, I'm running Apexi PFC, DW 440cc, AEM FP, and AEM Water Methanol premixed 80/20 Ethanol for higher octane to prevent detonation.
Konichiwa Aussie bro ☕️🙏Daiki looks like a proud father holding the turbo and great content . Wow so kool such a breeze Sam. Think your going to get some good boost. Gate Sugoi ✌️🤘🇯🇵🇦🇺
It is a common thing to do a turbo set up like that here in New Zealand and you can put a 20det head on to that 20e engine or even a 25det head on to it
Oh come on, what a cliffhanger. Love the videos have been watching for awhile now. Thanks for posting such easy to watch content. Can’t wait to see what this year holds for ya.
I never knew I needed an angled drill but then I bought it anyway and I am so happy I did. Makes stuff like this (removing snapped studs) so much easier when the drill actually fits. Highly recommend.
Ahh man that turbo fitment was totally spot on fair play to you, you're one lucky chucky 😂 so so hyped to see it up and running with some turbo whistles 😁💪🤙
Excited for this "single jingle" saga. Since I'm planning to Turbo my Mitsubishi Lancer '93 Either engine swap to 4g63 N/A(which is cheaper) or Straight Turbo a stock 4g92.

the rb20 de head should fit no problems i have turboed rb20de years ago should be fine here is a thought why not build it as a drag car. btw i reckon rev limit will be low 6500 maybe 7000 with the single cam head. i have played with rb20e they are very tough.also consider bringing rb30 bottom end from aust and putting rb25 head on it :) a cool build you have got to love the mix and match that is nissan btw sr and rb gearboxes and tail shafts interchange . i did an sr20 swap to r32 gtst and a cefiro. ... have you considered a cefiro c31 for the shop ? cheers meggala
Would actually be really cool to see someone do a proper rb20et build just to see what's possible with them considering that Nissan did actually do a factory 20et motor
Look up the HR31 passage that had a RB20ET from factory with a CA18DET turbo (AR48) on them and the exact same intake and exhaust manifold then the Holden VL turbo commodore had and this was all from Standard Nissan
Looks exactly like and RB30 just smaller, the block is likely compatible with a twin cam head. Unless you keep it under ~8psi and tune the mid range torque down, its going to spit a rod (unless the head gasket fails first). The outcome is obvious because most old stock motors have junk internals and a graphite head gasket that won't keep boost in if you actually drive it.
This will be fun to follow for sure, was thinking though since it’s gonna end up a wrinkly ebisu missile you might as well weld the back doors shut and make some ridiculous kaido racer kit with that new welder and some scrap sheet metal.
