Hey what's going on guys, my name is Jay and THIS is my review of the Gotrax XR Elite.
Shout out to Sam and Jeff from Gotrax for sending out the Elite for review. Now, for a little perspective, I own the original Gxl V1 model and used it for my 4 mile round trip commute for about 18 months. It served me well with 0 problems. In the last few years we've seen an increase in e-scooter usage. and with the Pandemic in full swing, Many would be subway and bus riders have taken to the escooter as a means of transportation. So I was super excited to try out Gotrax newest member of the XR series of commuter scooters. But this won't be a comparison video, rather this will be a dedicated first look of the Gotrax Elite and its features. And as always, links to check out this scooter can also be found in the description down below.
    Specs.
The XR Elite comes with a pre installed battery sporting 36 volts with 7.8 Amp hours. The 36 volts are responsible for achieving the scooter's top speed of 15.5mph while the 7.8 Amp hours speak directly to the batterys endurance or distance, which in this case is 18.6 mile. The 300 watt motor located in the front wheel is the driving force behind the scooters spirited acceleration and hill climbing abilities. More on that later. The Elite weighs in at a little over 26 pounds, which in my opinion really isn't too heavy. It's fairly portable when gripped in the right location but I wouldn't recommend going far as it's awkward to carry long distances and it's better suited for a quick flight of stairs or hoping on a bus. The max rider weight is 220lbs but we have many folks in our Facebook group who are over 220 and still get a good deal of range. The tires are 8.5 in and come pre inflated with the recommended 50 psi. The dual braking system employs both an electronic brake which slows down the motor and more importantly, a caliper style brake. The deck is a super wide 6.6 inches and houses the new battery location, which is a new design change from older model, where the battery was housed in the tiller. Speaking of the battery, for those of you wondering if you can switch batteries, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, the battery is replaceable and will be available on the Gotrax website soon, the bad news is the battery is not modular and therefore not interchangeable. That is, the rear wheel, among other parts, needs to be removed in order to replace the battery. There is also a newly upgraded, brighter headlight and newly added taillight which turns on simultaneously when turning on the headlight. And finally, the XR Elite is rated IP 54. Which basically means you can ride through some puddles and maybe a little light rain but anything more than that you may begin to damage the internal electronics.
    Aesthetics
So far, the XR Elite only comes in one color.... Black....all black. And with the exception of a black and white logo Midway down the tiller, the Elite is strangely reminiscent of the scooter version of the batmobile.
But countering this all black look, Gotrax must've had safety in mind when designing the XR Elite because this thing has ALOT of reflectors. Six reflectors to be exact. It's a little much, but it's not the end of the world. The reflectors on the front and back are well placed, make sense, and are inconspicuous. The four reflectors on the sides however, are very thick, and stick out too much for my preference. I realize gotrax is making a commuter scooter, but I think they could have eliminated the side reflectors or at least replaced them with heavy duty Reflective paint. The brake cable is neatly encased in a hard plastic coil...and runs through the tiller via entry and exit slots giving it a neat, tucked in tech look. The deck being 6.6 inches wide gives off a spacious and roomy feel where even riders with larger feet won't be cramped for space. It's also lined with a thick rubber surface with nodules for a grippy texture. The Elite's lighting scheme finishes up its look with a super bright headlight up front. It's light can illuminate a completely dark space with a throw of over 15 ft. And while it's such a small detail, that little tail light in the rear totally improves the look of this scooter.
    Performance
I have to start by saying that I really love the way this scooter rides and feels. The air filled tires give it a solidly smooth ride with minimal bumps. The construction seems well built and suitable for daily riding. One of the first things I noticed when turning on the scooter is the power on button. It has a definite firm clickiness to it and reminds me of a new retractible pen 🖋.

Great review! Appreciate the range test.
I'm not sure I like the speed being limited to 15.5, I always enjoyed picking up speed to about 20mph going down hill.
Love the Facebook group too. A great resource for GoTrax owners.
Since the steering column is the same size as the ones on the GXL and XR series and the battery is now located in the deck, I hope we'll see future GoTrax models that allow adding an extended range battery into the column (to be used in conjunction with the battery in the deck).
Glad they upgraded the headlight and the tail light is a long overdo addition.
Excellent mileage from a stock configuration.
I never use 1st gear on my GXL so, I won't miss it.
Great review. Informative and very well made!

@@danpettis1675 my gotrax xr Ulta wasn't heavy or slow. But...^ see my above comment. Gotrax has an F rating in the Texas Better Business Bureau. They don't do any assembly or service themselves yet blast all over they are an American company. The company golabs inc. is directed by a man named Qiong Li as well as the company taotao USA inc. The internet notes golabs Inc was filed by a foreign national. Based on my personal experience gotrax is a us warehouse for fully Chinese made and assembled scooters. 7.8AmH battery for 190 pounds for 17 miles seems to be incredibly good because my similar scooter with retractable tubular battery of 5.2 AmH can deliver me of 198 pounds(90 Kg) to only 7.5 miles(12 Km) under mixed modes(max speed of 15 mph(24 Km) at "Sports" mode while 10 mph(16 Km) at "Middle" mode).

The folding mechanism is one handed, you have to rotate the knob counter clockwise after pulling it out. This lock the knob in the out position so that same hand can unlatch the folding lever. I had thought it required two hands too when I first got it, after several months of use I saw another youtuber point out rotating the knob after pulling it out.

    Hi Jason,
Been waiting for your review, great job! Just received my Elite last week. So far, I love it but would like to get some info on motor noise or hum. My Elite makes an audible whirring/humming noise upon acceleration and inclines, mostly when you know the motor is really kicking. I also can feel a slight vibration. My friend has an Ultra that is quieter so looking to hear from you and others with an Elite. This is my first scooter and it appears to be fine, but I’m new to the game I don’t have much to reference. Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated!

    • @donl3130
      @donl3130 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Most reviews say you can get 16-17 miles.
Maybe you're riding at full power?
Or there are lots of hills, you weigh more than the testers (often 165 lbs)?
Cause it's pretty consistent that the range is usually 16 + miles.
Or you have a defective unit...

    • @donl3130
      @donl3130 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I have one and I use it in the cold, and the cold (for example freezing temperature...32 F.) can decrease battery performance. 32 can bring it to 80%.
I have found that I have to ride moderately (8-9 mph) if I want to reach 14 miles.
But it can accelerate to 14.6 mph when the battery is not low.
I use GPS equipment to measure. The display on the scooter is too advantageous (says you're going at 15.5 mph even if you're going 14).
I hope that with warmer weather I can go farther. And faster.
      I'm 165 lbs.
Anyway just sharing with you. I understand you're disappointed.

Gotrax has a problem. After the 12 months warranty, they lack of parts to replace for customers. They take a week to respond yoto your problems and they say that they don't have the part and they cannot recommend anywhere, and you are out of luck. You can see their parts sections and they don't have any parts to replace. They don't have anymore and they won't fill it. You broke something? Good luck. Now I have a broken scooter missing the lower part that holds the brake line and is made of plastic which breaks and they don't have it. I never seen a company with such low expectations and lack of responsibility for their customers

I'll put on reflective tape when I get mine. Or spray paint it, but if I want to resell it maybe the tape would be better...

      Get the Fluidfreeride “Horizon”
Got one for $600, folds up tiny, superstrong lock up/folding mechanism, folding handle bars, telescopic steering column, 25 mp/h, 20-26 mile range (2 battery options), programmable functions, built like a tank and spare parts from a great manufacturer. Totally worth every penny!

Kinda drives me nuts when people don't at least read the manual before reviewing a product.
You twist the release, which holds the bar in place, and then it folds down. There's no reason it should hit your head. Come on, man.

KilroyKilljoy don’t cmon man me....it drives me nuts when people make assumptions about my ability to read a simple manual. The mechanism simply didn’t work, twisting the bolt to hold in place was ineffective
