I tried punch needle embroidery a year ago and failed at it.. After finding your videos, I purchased the CRT punch needles and my projects look much better. I've watched your videos several times and they have been very helpful. You are an excellent teacher.
Jennie, I think you'll find the CTR needles are much easier to work with, with less strain on your wrists. Start out slow and build your speed slowly. I've never thought of myself as a teacher, I'm so glad I could help. Enjoy, Kate
You convinced me that I needed CTR punch needles. Unfortunately they haven’t been made for a couple of years. I searched worldwide and found them all! Couldn’t believe I did it.
Kate I just watched all your videos. Excellent job! I am a punch newbie and you had many wonderful tips in all your videos. Thank you for taking the time to publish these for everyone! Your Etsy store is wonderful. I really like your style!
I'm new to Punch needle, been doing research, about the craft. After watching your videos I want to jump in and do 3 strand. Thank you for the inspiration i needed.
Thank you Alex, give yourself the time to learn separating..be patient start with semi small lengths and make sure the thread your splitting is straight. Have fun, glad your jumping in. Kate
Oh My GREAT videos. I love all your patterns and have ordered a few. Could you possibly show filling in. Thanks. Please keep the videos coming. Very Helpful.
I've enjoyed your videos! Thank you for taking the time to do them. Just purchased the pumpkin and CTR needle...was gifted a cameo. We'll see which works best for me! One question. Do the needles dull (I would assume over time)? Can you buy replacement needles or is it necessary to replace the entire 'unit'? Speaking mostly about the CTR. Thanks again.
The frame is a rug hookers “Gruber frame”. I’m not sure if they are still available. You’ll have to google it. The cover I made myself from left over weavers cloth and quilt batting. It just lays over the frame and pinned on the edges. Hope this helps. Kate
Question about line work. I see how you make tiny stitches to outline an area. When you get ready to change colors and work an adjacent area, do you do line work there also? Or just fill it in because you've already defined the line with the previous color?
Using three strands or less means the needle itself is small. They actually glide through the weavers cloth like butter. When I used six strands and the u punch my hands cramped terribly. I only made one 6 strand punch because of it. Hope this helps. Kate
The ultra punch to me is very cumbersome. Always had problems with it. You must not lift the tip of the needle off the fabric always drag to next stitch. It does take practice, start slow and build speed as you get used to the feel. This is true for any punch needle. Kate
Lisa Jarvis I know it dates way back for decorating clothing, often used on collars, really not sure but before Victorian era. Another interesting fact: Do you remember the letter jackets in high school? That single letter were often punched. Kate
Christy Tschappat The brand name is Gruber...it is a table top frame. It could possibly work on your lap. But I do believe frames work best mounted for more stability. I mounted mine to a tv stand...that you eat off of. I love it..!
Just finished watching all of your videos. Thank you so much for these and I can’t wait to see more. I am a beginner, so your many tips are very helpful! I also browsed through your Etsy store and LOVE so many of your patterns! Besides this pumpkin one, is there any others you suggest for a beginner? Thanks again!
Jan Hicks thank you for your kind words...so glad they help...as far as helping you pick another pattern that really depends on your taste..stay away from 1, 2 strand punches for now.. and mixers...go for bigger area punches and work your way to smaller areas.. keep in mind all the technique is the same. Thank you again...Kate
Your designs are so pretty. Forgive for the remark, but the aerial view helps to see the overall work, but your hand covers and doesn’t always allow us to follow the punching which would be interesting to see. Thank you!
Hope Amen .....you need a little more patience...only the very beginning are stills...keep watching Hope the whole process is there. Very close so you can see. Kate

I do not sell the floss, but the color coded patterns are available....also you can have them preprinted on weavers cloth ready to go.

Hi Kate, what cloth are you using as a backing? X
Hi Jennifer, Its Weavers cloth.
So what kind of frame is that. A gripper frame and your cover. Looks like a good setup. And where did you get them thank
The frame is a rug hookers “Gruber frame”. I’m not sure if they are still available. You’ll have to google it. The cover I made myself from left over weavers cloth and quilt batting. It just lays over the frame and pinned on the edges. Hope this helps. Kate

No need for a second row. The first will help keep it in place. Thank you Kay! Enjoy, Kate
Does your hand not get cramped with that very short shank needle punch
Using three strands or less means the needle itself is small. They actually glide through the weavers cloth like butter. When I used six strands and the u punch my hands cramped terribly. I only made one 6 strand punch because of it. Hope this helps. Kate
@@kategillery5001 thank you. I'm using the ultra needle punch myself and am having difficulty with my stitches being the same height any advice for me

Could you please tell me how old this craft is ~ would be very interesting to know when it dates back too!
Lisa Jarvis I know it dates way back for decorating clothing, often used on collars, really not sure but before Victorian era. Another interesting fact: Do you remember the letter jackets in high school? That single letter were often punched. Kate
Where do you get your patterns
I have an Etsy shop “briarcottagestudio” I am a designer of punch needle rug punch and rug hooking patterns.
I also have that needle punch I haven’t tried it but I would imagine the hands would cramp holding sipuch a smallinstrument
Actually, I get less fatigue in my hands and wrists working with the smaller tread count and needle.
What is the name of your Etsy store
"Briar cottage"
Is it possible to put that frame in your lap?? What was the brand name again?
Really enjoying your videos:)
Christy Tschappat The brand name is Gruber...it is a table top frame. It could possibly work on your lap. But I do believe frames work best mounted for more stability. I mounted mine to a tv stand...that you eat off of. I love it..!
Do you ever wax your threads?
What is price this picture

Is there a machine for this work
Not that I’m aware of…but maybe somewhere….there’s a machine for everything.

❤❤❤❤
I meant to say filling in gaps when done.
abuelitap65 ... there are a couple tidbits in this video on that subject. But I will try and explain in further videos. Thank you!
This video would be more helpful if we could see the process instead of still shots.
Hope Amen .....you need a little more patience...only the very beginning are stills...keep watching Hope the whole process is there. Very close so you can see. Kate
