    You know, the knife has some positive attributes: Good looking, excellent ergonomics, excellent quality, military usage, Italian style, premium brand. Like a Ferrari. Is it worth the price? no. But people still buy them, because people want to own something unique and top of the line. At the end of the day, when one buys any product, it is the emotional content that connects and makes the final decision. We humans are not fully rational people in a material sense.

      Totally agree...talking about "the emotional content", every time I handle a knife like this Extrema Ratio, when I cherish its blade, I do feel shivers of pleasure!!!

    Damn, I love it. It is highly unique, well secured in the hand with a lock. You can adjust the pressure for engaging the blade and can break glass with the hilt/handle. All of that without looking like a wilderness survival knife. I say go for it.

    • @RonJeremy514
      @RonJeremy514 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gagelink2457 It looks like mall ninja shit but it's actually very well built and serves a purpose: to stay in the hand without risks of slipping away, it's not the smoothest mechanism because it's reinforced to not break easily. Extrema Ratio knives are purely made for military applications and by that, it's not about cutting wood sticks in your backyard but taking out baddies out of the gene pool. It's made to kill if TH-cam allows me to say it. And several militaries already were issued some of their knives.

    I like it and I see the wisdom of the design. I cannot justify the expense on my wages as a school bus driver but I can still admire it from a distance. I usually carry 2 or 4 knives, this would be the 1 does all knife. But in the real world it likely will be a safe queen or a collection display centerpiece. But thank you for reviewing it, and I hope you keep it for yourself, I just think you deserve it!

      they feel really nice in hand but its just waaaaaaaay overpriced! buy a cold steel recon 1 for 1/3 of the price ( half the price of the mf2 in europe ).

      Sure it can outperform cold steel. Just like any cheapest axe can also outperform the indestructible foldable sr1 in cutting wood. It outperforms in style, quality, fame, and other aspects. A good-enough lock is good enough. If you use your knife as intended, it will last a lifetime. If you abuse it, it will be ruined. Depends how you use it, isn't it? Do you want to fix tank tracks with Cold Steel? no. Do you want to baton with this? no.

    The lock is very much like the CRKT Liner Safety lock from a decade ago, I do not see the point if your liner is sturdy enough. I like the lockable pivot tightness too. The price, mid tech range, not a shocker as a collectable, too high for a user. Aluminum frames regardless of coating scratches as the metal is soft and the manufacturers know this (kills the secondary market). Put an aluminum knife in a pocket with keys, ooops. It is a cool looking knife. Thank you for showing this innovative design.

  • @Flockingtheherd
    @Flockingtheherd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Boehler n690 is easily the best blade steel out there. There’s a reason it’s used in most military issue weapons, extrema makes their knives for special forces, not really designed for civilian use. Most of their knives are meant to actually kill someone not cut paper all day long like most people. N690 is the best because it holds a wicked edge, edge retention is awesome, yet it can be sharpened easily with basic tools. The steel is resilient and hardy yet just soft enough for hard use so blades don’t chip. IT IS the ultimate blade steel. Any TH-camr that tells you elmax or s35v or any of those crazy steels that weren’t made for knives are complete idiots and never intend on actually using a knife.

    • @RonJeremy514
      @RonJeremy514 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No I think you are wrong. S35VN, M390, S90VN, these steels are not made just for knives you know, it's not like the knife making industry on its own is that profitable for steel makers. It's also used in industrial applications. If you think that CPM steel makers just think about selling ingots to knive makers, you are wrong on so many levels. But N690 and its subvariants are also seen in kitchen knives because it's easy to sharpen and maintain, yet quite versatile, corrosion resistant and so on. And turns out, in military applications, this is pretty logical choice even if you see 1095 being still commonplace with Esee knives that various combattants use. Many military knives if not Sandvik 14C28N emphasize on corrosion resistance, decent edge retention and overall pretty reliable without being too expensive.

    My honest opinion is this while its an interesting design and it seems according to your review that it functions well for $380 I would expect the handle to be made out of titanium not aluminum. Most higher end folders use titanium or carbon fiber they generally use aluminum for the spacers not for the handle.

I will spend 30 bucks on ebay for a copy tho.

    ER built their reputation that some special forces are using it. I 'm very curious on their handle design. It's not the usual 'coke bottle' or 'finger grove' handle. They said it got help with some university study. I'm surprise American knife makers are not trying out the handle design. They also do lots of test to destruction. Cold Steel does that, with a lower price tag.

    N690 is VERY close to 440C (I would say more then 99%), ER is producing very expensive knives made generaly only of N690 (there can be exceptions). They have got great designs (military/agresive) and sheats with average steel, but I personaly wouldn´t buy any of their folders. To the knife. Price and generaly the linerlock keeps me away from the knife. My tests shows, that linerlocks doesn´t have problem to move beck (and let the blade close) but go to the other side, they simply bend. In my eyes good only for light using small and cheap folders. If folder for a good price, then CS:-) Thanks for the video. FM

    I had to laugh when I saw the thumbnail: Chris holding an ER. People either love or hate Extrema Ratio. Wish they sent you a fixed blade to review though. Either a Doberman, Selvans or Ontos would have been better knife for you to review for the outdoors. But thanks for going outside of your normal comfort zone in presenting this folder.

    I sure like large folders, and that MF2 is certainly space warrior ready! The blade seems to be riding off-center though.

    Chris. Love your channel always entertaining and informative. But if your going to review a 380 dollar knife take 5 minutes to read up on warranty and steel please. I look to you for info on knives and what you tell us helps us decide of we want a closer look. Thank you

    To me aluminum scaled knives over $100 are all but a joke. Cheap material with low strength. Should be carbon fiber over titanium at that price. Seems a rip off compared to my Spyderco Mamba

    Could I see myself spending that much on a folder? Yes. Bot not on that one. I'd want a better lock, better blade centering, and a finger choil at the least. A different handle material would also be a better selling point.

    It's not the price tag that's bothers me, it's because it looks like a flea market knife. Add some zombie green scales while you're at it.

    Thx for the video. No I wouldn't pay that amount but I like watching videos on these kind of knives. There have been some knives on ur channel that are out of my price range but enjoyed watching. U do a wide range of knives & prices. Thanks for the video

    that there is a pocket folding fix blade capable of stopping the Alien covident during first contact at harvest (Halo lore) I like the length of the blade shape and idea but holy shit $380 for just a few more hundred I could invest in a new Springfield XDM or sig p320. if I wont buy a 100 dollar folder why would I ever in my life consider that. its a great looking blade yes and thank u Chris for the review, it adds some different content knife wise but u are right most of use are going to say no to this blade and continue on what we like and know

    For 380 bucks a knife should be perfect but this isn’t quite that. It doesn’t mean I don’t like it though.

    Appears priced for tactical teams spending other people's money. That said, the longevity of the flipper with capability to be set at correct tension over the life of the folder actually brings the cost more in line since replacement due to lost tension is significantly delayed.

    Thank you for introducing a knife that is not American. Regardless of whether its good or not, its nice to know that theres a world of knives out there and it great to see them.

    That’s a lot for a folder or a tool as I see a knife as a tool. But I like that knife if I had cash maybe I would buy it. I’m on disability I’ll never own a 350$ blade
