  • On September 28, Greta Thunberg took the stage in Milan at Pre-COP26, the Youth4Climate conference, to deliver a powerful keynote address. In her full speech, she calls out global leaders for not doing enough for the climate crisis and resting on words rather than actions, and "blah blah blah."
Greta Thunberg has been fighting for climate justice since she began school striking in 2018. She has organized climate strikes with Fridays for Future all over the world.

Came for the "blah blah", stayed for the comments.
Interesting reading the debate conflict below; the petroleum/anti windfarm folk versus the electric car brigade. None of this is simple. None of it is black and white.
I live in a very rural part of northern Scotland. Do I want to contribute to a reduction in CO2? Yes of course. Can I give up my diesel car? No. I cannot afford an electric one with the same loadspace, plus there are virtually no charging points. Public transport is zero. Why should I have to move into a city?
The thing that _really_ annoys me is the expectation that this is all on the public. Buy an electric car. Install a heat pump. Fit solar panels blah blah blah. Meanwhile, governments build ever more coalfired powerstations and search for - and extract - ever more hydrocarbons. The difference in scale is ludicrous.
So yes, I will endeavour to do my bit, but it's a drop in the warming ocean.

Whom Can We Trust If No One Is Trustworthy?
One of my favorite quips from Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is when Tom is defined as “a glittering hero…the pet of the old, the envy of the young,” and there were “some that believed that he would be President, yet, if he escaped hanging.” With these few words, Twain captured the essence of leadership in our world. Those who get to the top are the fiercest, most determined, and most ruthless. Today, the latter quality has become so intense that we can no longer believe our leaders, and certainly not trust them to have our best interest in mind.
I am not accusing any leader in particular, or even leaders as a whole. It is simply that in an egoistic world, where people vie to topple one another on their way to the top, the one at the top is clearly the one who trampled over and knocked down more people than anyone else. Concisely, to get to the top in an egoistic world you have to be the biggest egoist.
So how do we know whom to trust? We don’t know and we cannot know. All we know is that we are in the dark.
In a culture of unhinged selfishness, any conspiracy theory seems reasonable, while truth is nowhere to be found. When every person who says or writes something is trying to promote some hidden agenda, you have no way of knowing who is right, what really happened, or if anything happened at all.
The only way to get some clarity in the news and goodwill from our leaders is to say “Enough!” to our current system and build something entirely independent. The guiding principle of such a system should be “information only,” no commentary. Commentary means that information has already been skewed. Information means saying only what happened, as much as possible, not why, and not who is to blame and who we should praise.
Concurrently, we must begin a comprehensive process of self-teaching. We have to know not only what is happening, but why we skew and distort everything. In other words, we have to know about human nature and how it inherently presents matters according to its own subjective view, which caters to one’s own interest. To “clear” ourselves from that deformity, we must learn how to rise above our personal interest and develop an equally favorable attitude toward others. This is our only guarantee that our interpretation of things will be even and correct.
Once we achieve such an attitude, we will discover that the bad things we see in our world reflect our own, internal wickedness. Our ill-will toward others creates a world where ill-will governs, and so the world is filled with wickedness and cruelty. Therefore, all we need in order to create positive leadership-and to generally eliminate ill-will from the world-is to generate goodwill within us. When we nurture goodwill toward others, we will fill the world with goodwill. As a result, the world will fill with kindness and compassion. By changing ourselves, we will create a world that is opposite from the world we have created through our desires to govern, patronize, and often destroy other people.

I agree with your sentiments, but in the last 2 Thousand years we’ve tried through religion to get there & we haven’t- - - the bigger question is HOW are we’re going to take action as a whole to save ourselves? ? ? If there was a singular cause for ALL the problems in this world, undoubtedly it is Monkey Mind. It is the default program of our species (dogs just know how to be dogs, elephants just know how to be elephants, etc) and this program operates in the background of every person … from peasants to presidents, from popes to professors, from doctors to prisoners, and so on.
The 3 Elements of Monkey Mind were elucidated by ancient Hindu and Buddhist philosophers with texts dating back 5000 years. All throughout Asia many monkey habitats thrived and were easy subjects to observe and investigate. In contrast, the 3 Abrahamic religions were conceived in regions barren of simian/monkeys/apes and for the few that existed there, were displayed as exotic curiosities and kept as imprisoned pets. Therefore, to the detriment of succeeding civilizations, Abrahamic religions missed out on key understandings of, “who are we” and synthesized mythologies based on magical thinking and story telling.
The 3 Elements of Monkey Mind are common to many other animals on this Planet of the Apes, however, through specific practices it is possible to breakthrough our default program and attain enlightenment (many in throughout history have). Past civilizations attempted to elevate culture en masse above our feces-flinging ancestors, but had limited success. And so, the 3 Elements are:
      1) Limitless Greed - nothing is enough for us, especially if it is pleasurable to the senses or rewarding to ego. The popular idea that ‘greed is good’ has many fans. Ex: Got a pay raise? Not enough, want more! Enjoyed sexy time? Not enough, want more! Feeling powerful with a gun? Not enough, need more power! Etcetera ad nauseam.
      2) Tireless Fear - Nothing in life is certain, except uncertainty. Uncertainty is certain and is a Law of Physics. One can plan, scheme, organize, rehearse, but tomorrow is still uncertain. Fear is the result of uncertainty and inability to control variables beyond one’s reach. Fear is crippling and keeps people from living life fully (happiness). Governments and businesses (insurance industry in particularly) understand and exploit peoples’ fears to enslave and dominate their patrons.
      3) Impassive Dominance - monkeys seek the highest position in the trees, especially when under threat, to be ‘above it all’. People ambitiously seek the supreme by reaching and grasping for higher social status (fame), higher career positions, higher educational degrees, higher athletic achievements, higher domicile dwellings (skyscrapers), higher highs, etcetera ad nauseam, all believing it will reduce their suffering but often has the opposite affect!
These 3 Elements (Limitless Greed, Tireless Fear, and Impassive Dominance) have not been sufficiently handled in today’s civilization and indeed bring suffering to the planet and all life living on it. However, through practicing the 3 Virtues of Human Mind, we could transform suffering into happiness. The 3 Virtues of Human Mind are:
      1) Limitless Generosity - you will always have more than another in need and kindness does not cost anything. Practicing limitless generosity alone can generate an abundance of positive merit (good Karma) to turn the Wheel of Becoming. Very powerful practice that does not have involve money, but just being helpful to others - the definition of Human Being. To the giver, comes the fullness of life. To the greedy, just an empty hand.
      2) Tireless Trust - trust is the foundation of human civilization (past-present-future(?)). Trust forms the basis for all relationships. It builds confidence and instills security. Trust implies an understanding that we are all same, with same circumstances and our survival depends on our trust. “Trust yourself, Trust Others, Trust God” is a wonderful book for everyone with trust issues or without! Most importantly Trust dispels Fear and opens a world of possibilities! Do not fear your enemy, for he is tour greatest teacher!
      3) Passive Abiding - dominance is rigid and unyielding, therefore subject to fracturing and breaking. Abiding is soft and conforming, like water. Our bodies are 70-80% water, for it is the most powerful element in the universe, yet it is soft and abiding. Water conforms to it’s surroundings, seeks it’s own level, extinguishes fires, wears away rock, moves the wind, permeates all life, and transmutes states of matter (from solid, to liquid, to vapor) in cyclic forms. Water gives life! If it isn’t Life itself! Just get with the flow and as Bruce Lee famously said, “Be Water, my friend”!
Practicing these 3 Virtues can breakthrough Monkey Mind and transform the planet. But it can not be forced or indoctrinated because that creates push-back and defiance. Michael Jackson’s song “Man in the Mirror”, is far more than a catchy tune, but profound insight on attaining Peace!
There is no Planet B and we must all learn to coexist in unity. We may not be able to reverse the rape and exploitation of this Eden caused by the ignorance of prior societies, but we can stop the hastening of its death … until Planet B is located!

      It’s a simple process:
      1. You use petroleum products
      2. You feel guilty
      3. Petrochemical companies build solar panels and windmills to make you feel better.
      4. You pretend that the problem (that isn’t really a problem outside your mind) has been solved. Like when Greta sailed on a multimillion dollar sailing yacht because she wanted to pretend that she was doing something for the environment. Forget the fact that the crew was flown all over after dropping her off. Then flown back to sail her back to Sweden.
      Problem solved.

Oort cloud comet impacts like the comet that crashed over Russia.
and Global EAST to WEST cataclysmic Tsunami's that wash over the continents at 800 mph and freeze into the continental glaciers lowering sea levels.
Gobekli tepe was the last time we crossed the galactic plane and was buried by 19 different e-w tsunami's. The Asiatic babylonian people of Gobekli tepe moved north to get away from the ever increasing tsunami heights and the pillars of Fire (Richat structure) into the underground city of Derenkuyu.

Modern agriculture is oil dependent. No oil will result in global famine. Some folk like clothes made with artificial fibres made from oil and gas. Yes, they wear oil. Those who buy cotton also buy oil as cotton is grown with chemicals and machines powered by diesel. Everything is oil dependent. To stop using oil means our way of life will stop. Our global civilisation will go the way of all previous civilisations.

What is the point in getting educated if civilization is likely to collapse within a decade due to all the numerous ways in which we are destroying the earth, climate change being just one of them. Actually, that’s the whole point behind the School Strike movement. Greta started that movement by sitting outside her nation’s parliament with a sign that said, “School Strike” .

Standing out on stage and repeating "blah blah blah" over an over again is not eloquent and not impressive anymore. Do we need an 18 year old to tell politicians that what they say is politically correct? They know that already? Do we need someone to translate the climate science into something actionable? Yes, we do...But is she doing that? Not quite...A good consultancy could do that. WWF, CAN, Client Earth do that.
She's right in that decisionmaking on such complex matters require first disruption and then complex technical and political level discussions. It's great to want change now, but it requires 8 billion to be on board with those changes and actually implement them...That cannot happen overnight. If you don't understand that, then you're not ready to do this for the long term.

Also, they must think if the problem is serious, they are comfortable in their rich countries, and the worst part would be for the poorest ones, they wouldn't be affected. Recently, with floods in Germany and in Belgium, heat waves in Canada and in USA, the Earth said otherwise.

According to anthropologists there are four basic types of subsistence strategies used by cultures throughout history. They are foraging (think hunter gatherer), horticulturist, pastoralism, and agriculture/industrial. The only one of those four that does not impact the natural environment is foraging. Foragers also have the healthiest diet. The point is you can't have both an ecologically friendly society and economic development. It has never worked and all the ethnographic data collected by anthropologists show that there has never been an exception. If we really want to save the planet then we all need to return to our natural environment and cease from our industrial society, but that isn't really possible with out causing great suffering in the short term. Klaus Schwab's book The Fourth Industrial Revolution is full of that kind of nonsense where we will have a green planet with unparalleled economic development. These people are living a pipe dream.

That should be the starting point of any conversation about our importance to the Earth. (that we are not that important. No more than ants. And def no more than bees.)

I can't predict the future of events that seem so far beyond the understanding and control of humans.
I can offer the opinion that we will not survive in our present form when the air and water become so toxic to us that we cannot breathe it or drink it.
It isn't that the "Earth wants to get rid of us." According to those who are supposed to know it is WE HUMANS who are poisoning the planet at a rate beyond what the Earth can remedy.

To blame the climate crisis on colonialism is somewhat bizarre. Not a fan of colonialism but industrialisation is not the same thing. Industrialisation enabled colonialism, but it does not follow that colonialism causes climate change. The scientific advancement in the industrial era has paved the way for people to understand climate and how we are affecting it. Why are descendants of “sinners” always asked to pay for their father’s misdemeanours even if they (the ancestors) did not know what they were doing? Because they somehow benefitted? How is it their fault?
Again, not saying that nothing should be done, but to invoke colonialism in this argument is disingenuous at the least and suggests an ulterior motive.

One crisp winter morning in Sweden, a cute little girl named The Angry Beaver woke up to a perfect world, one where there were no petroleum products ruining the earth. She tossed aside her cotton sheet and wool blanket and stepped out onto a dirt floor covered with willow bark that had been pulverized with rocks. “What’s this?” she asked.
“Pulverized willow bark,” replied her fairy godmother.
“What happened to the carpet?” she asked.
“The carpet was nylon, which is made from butadiene and hydrogen cyanide, both made from petroleum,” came the response.
The Angry Beaver smiled, acknowledging that adjustments are necessary to save the planet, and moved to the sink to brush her teeth where instead of a toothbrush, she found a willow, mangled on one end to expose wood fibre bristles.
“Your old toothbrush?” noted her godmother, “Also nylon.”
“Where’s the water?” asked The Angry Beaver
“Down the road in the canal,” replied her godmother, ‘Just make sure you avoid water with cholera in it”
“Why’s there no running water?” The Angry Beaver asked, becoming a little peevish.
“Well,” said her godmother, who happened to teach engineering at MIT, “Where do we begin?” There followed a long monologue about how sink valves need elastomer seats and how copper pipes contain copper, which has to be mined and how it’s impossible to make all-electric earth-moving equipment with no gear lubrication or tires and how ore has to be smelted to a make metal, and that’s tough to do with only electricity as a source of heat, and even if you use only electricity, the wires need insulation, which is petroleum-based, and though most of Sweden’s energy is produced in an environmentally friendly way because of hydro and nuclear, if you do a mass and energy balance around the whole system, you still need lots of petroleum products like lubricants and nylon and rubber for tires and asphalt for filling potholes and wax and iPhone plastic and elastic to hold your underwear up while operating a copper smelting furnace and . . .
“What’s for breakfast?” interjected The Angry Beaver whose head was hurting.
"Fresh, range-fed chicken eggs,” replied her godmother. “Raw.”
“How so, raw?” inquired The Angry Beaver.
“Well, . . .” And once again, Greta was told about the need for petroleum products like transformer oil and scores of petroleum products essential for producing metals for frying pans and in the end was educated about how you can’t have a petroleum-free world and then cook eggs. Unless you rip your front fence up and start a fire and carefully cook your egg in an orange peel like you do in Boy Scouts. Not that you can find oranges in Sweden anymore.
“But I want poached eggs like my Aunt Tilda makes,” lamented The Angry Beaver.
“Tilda died this morning,” the godmother explained. “Bacterial pneumonia.”
“What?!” interjected The Angry Beaver.. “No one dies of bacterial pneumonia! We have penicillin.”
“Not anymore,” explained godmother “The production of penicillin requires chemical extraction using isobutyl acetate, which, if you know your organic chemistry, is petroleum-based. Lots of people are dying, which is problematic because there’s not any easy way of disposing of the bodies since backhoes need hydraulic oil and crematoriums can’t really burn many bodies using as fuel Swedish fences and furniture, which are rapidly disappearing - being used on the black market for roasting eggs and staying warm.”
This represents only a fraction of The Angry Beavers’s day, a day without microphones to exclaim into and a day without much food, and a day without carbon-fibre boats to sail in, but a day that will save the planet.
Tune in tomorrow when The Angry Beaver needs a root canal and learns how Novocain is synthesized and that Michelle Obama is really a dude named Mike Obama.

Bless her but I think it's her age. She sounds more mature than she looks & I find her adorable & I hope she finds what she's looking for even though she doesn't fully understand the way things are.
There is no good without evil & vice versa, humanity is born from Ying & Yang, one cannot exist without the other.
A.I. is capable of separating the two but with a severe consequence, not everything that seems chaotic needs to be put right because humans will forget what was wrong in the first place so they don't know how to avoid it if encountered in the future.

Apparently you must be green to live the jet set life.
She prepares people for the next move which will be euthanizing old people. Obviously they deserve it.
Probably, none of these kids will be going to engineering schools or science universities but instead will do marketing to force us to buy the next wave of green stuff. Mandatory obsolescence beats hands down old fashioned organized obsolescence.
There is no business like green business. Subventions. Bigger markups. Local growing will be impossible because of stringent norms.
