Mariah Carey was an outstanding singer. I completely understand that many things happened which were not her fault. I do not condone Mottola's behaviour and I also recognise the problem with nodules. But ever since the heavy sexualisation, injudicious use of synthesisers, diva behaviour, and overuse of her voice, the quality of her music has unmistakeably declined. I do not indulge in nostalgia for the sake of it: simplicity always stands the test of time. This song is a masterpiece, and her vocals here will be revered for decades.
You should listen to her album from 2018, Caution. It was Universally Acclaimed and was a very good album. I mean her best since TEOM and she reinvented herself.
