Sadly it took more than a half hour to confirm it before all the breaking news stories hit. I remember all of us stepping away from the birthday festivities to pray that it wasn't true.

I was lucky enough to be at this video shoot although I'm not in the video. I was on Mariah's side to the far left. It was shot over 2 nights in Brooklyn. The 3 screens on the upper level were green screens and no videos were playing during the video shoot, but the screen/curtain on stage was the same way it appeared in the video. Until now, I totally forgot there were musicians on stage...guess my eyes were on the legends. Mariah exited the building around midnight after the 1st or 2nd night and signed some things for fans in the alley. A security person also collected paper/photos that were brought back to her while she was in her dressing room during breaks and she signed them on one of the nights. Edit: I just remembered...on the second night they had us move around to make the audience look bigger and I was sitting in the last row in the back and I saw 2 guys walk in. It was Tommy Mottola and Don Ienner (music exec). I was like "oh, shiz..." I think it was from this event. I've seen Mariah 52 times in person and I can't think of another event that it could have been where I saw these 2 guys. I guess they wanted to see 2 legends like the rest of us.

I was lucky enough to be at this video shoot although I'm not in the video. I was on Mariah's side to the far left. It was shot over 2 nights in Brooklyn. The 3 screens on the upper level were green screens and no videos were playing during the video shoot, but the screen/curtain on stage was the same way it appeared in the video. Until now, I totally forgot there were musicians on stage...guess my eyes were on the legends. Mariah exited the building around midnight after the 1st or 2nd night and signed some things for fans in the alley. A security person also collected paper/photos that were brought back to her while she was in her dressing room during breaks and she signed them on one of the nights.
Edit: I just remembered...on the second night they had us move around to make the audience look bigger and I was sitting in the last row in the back and I saw 2 guys walk in. It was Tommy Mottola and Don Ienner (music exec). I was like "oh, shiz..." I think it was from this event. I've seen Mariah 52 times in person and I can't think of another event that it could have been where I saw these 2 guys. I guess they wanted to see 2 legends like the rest of us.

Maybe it's best she left us when she did. Her voice was gone years before her passing and it was tainting her legacy. I feel like if she were still alive and still trying to sing, her legacy would have been tarnished that much more. I believe there were concerts where she was performing and folks were walking about because she struggled to sing. So, the timing of her passing may have protected her legacy. And I say that with the utmost respect for her as she will always be the GREATEST voice pop and R&B music has ever had.

Here's the thing, they are two different artist with different musical styles and capabilities. It really doesn't matter about the octaves, record sales, and even whether or not they liked each other, when it comes down to them doing this project together.
