Have 2005 ram with 4.7. Oil has been disappearing and haven't seen drips or exhaust cloud. Oil pressure gauge staying right in middle. Just the other day been getting check gauges beep but hadn't caught the gauge needle movement. Ticking started about same time and just found out oil dip stick is dry. Oil changed only 3000 miles ago and it was almost dry then. Shop didn't mention sensor. Thanks for giving me something to look at. Just subscribed.
If it's not leaking it out it's burning it. I have seen a lot of 4.7s with that issue. It sometimes is the valve seals, leaking or the piston rings are worn. How many miles do you have?
155000-ish. You definitely could be right about valves/rings. I hate that I'm too physically beat up to much myself anymore. Thanks again for your help.
Thank you sir for reassuring my suspicion...I have a 2003 Dodge ram 3500 5.7 hemi and it has 90,000 on the engine...I noticed the oil on the sensor plug start a while back. Just never paid it too much attention until now. Guess I need to order a new sensor and clean the connection. 👍 😂
My 1993 Cummins gauge was acting exactly the same way. Replaced it with OReilly (STANDARD brand) part number PS233 and it fixed it. 👍 My gauge needle moves smoothly and doesn't drop to zero and jump around anymore. Thanks!
@HotRodDave I'm 400 miles from home with a 25' trailer behind me. So, it is a huge relief that it wasn't anything major like worn-out bearings, oil pump, oil pickup screen plugged, oil pressure relief valve sticking, etc
Thank you for this video. Symptoms were the same as in the video on my truck. Replaced the oil pressure switch and cleaned connector. Works great!! Thanks again!!
Thank you for this video it helped confirm my suspicions, now I know I need to clean everything up really good and may also need to replace some of the wire. Thank you thank you!!! Oh and I definitely subscribed and will be watching more videos to expand my knowledge :)
Have a 2005 dodge ram ,when you first start it no oil pressure, then turn off engine and restart you have oil pressure and it will work all day.only on the first start up . thanks
@@keezy5670 the best thing you can do is dive in and check the connector. If it has oil in it then follow the steps. If it doesn't have oil in the connector then run a manual oil pressure test with a gauge hooked to where the oil pressure sensor screws in.
Your comments and your video was extremely helpful you got right to the point not like somebody's videowell I'm going to go try it on my truck. Just rebuilt the heads so I have a feeling it's not exactly what you showed on the video there's no ticking noise no nothing engine runs smooth just driving one day and a gauge went down so I have a feeling is oil in it I did have to change that switch but when I did the new heads I'll let you know thanks for the help
Great video. My oil gauge dips down every so often when I come to a complete stop with the check gauges light coming on as well. Goes back to normal when I drive again. Hopefully mine is an easy fix. Thanks 👍🏻
Thank you, I was having the same issue as Blackbird Tech, and looks like it solved the problem. Notice the old sensor full of oil inside and out and I cleaned it out with some brake parts cleaner and gauge looks to be staying dead center...
Process of elimination: (please correct me if I'm wrong) I have 04 "4.7" 320+k miles. Oil pressure holds steady until warmed up. then drops to -0- and then back up. Sort of continuous cycle while idling. I've been having this problem for quite some time. Among many other things. Did an engine flush, then new oil & filter. So now I'll move on to the next step. Process of elimination. 1. Clean / replace sending unit. 2. Clogged pickup tube. 3. Oil pump 4. Lower main bearings? Thank Dave for putting time into these videos~~!
Probably the sending unit but with the mileage on it I would put a manual gauge on it and get an accurate reading. Don't forget to clean out the electrical connector for the sending unit.
@@HotRodDave Think I better do that second oil change like I planned & get that old pickup out of there then. Just for practical info, I been turning wrenches since late 70's early 80's. But never too smart to learn something new. I have the 4.7 operation just about nailed down as far as understanding how all the components work together. Amazing tech. for sure. But also a real pain at times. Thanks so much.
Just picked up an 03 Ram with a 5.7. Hoping that engine has a similar placement of the gauge. If the truck sits for more than a few hours turned off it is guaranteed the oil pressure gauge will be at zero and the check gauge light will be on the first time you start it. But, if you turn it off and start it up again it kicks in. Hoping a new gauge will fix the issue and hopefully fix the oil leaking as well!
Great video. I replaced a 3.7 recently and it started doing this at idle after driving it for a week. Im definitely gonna replace that sending unit (used it off the old motor). Hopefully that fixes it.
Great video, will be do this today. Any info on the 2005 Ram 1500 4x4 Hemi water pumps? We are on our 3rd one and this one is now leaking, one from Advanced , Fishers, and one from the dealer is now leaking that cost $800 plus alone. They all seem to last around a year and a half then the belt starts squeaking to let us know it's leaking. 🤔 Appreciate any help we assuming it's just crap parts from wherever they are made now. China/Mexico
Thanks but I don't have any insider info on the water pumps. That seems like a lot of water pumps. I would think the Mopar replacement would be the best but I really don't know
Thanks. Going to try this next week on my 2007 2500. Mine is acting nearly identical to yours. I know it has oil and has pressure because the truck runs fine and it has shown 0 pressure for miles and miles lol I’d have thrown all the rods by this point if that gauge were right. Thanks!
That's funny what you said about the brake cleaner burning. It burns when I get it under my ring too. Maybe the skin under the ring is just more sensitive.
Thanks Brother !!! Mines a 5.9 and I know the sensor is farther back ... just great info for the old school do it yourself if you can mechanic that I am 🤠
Hi Dave, Is it easier to replace the switch from underneath the vehicle as opposed to looking down on it from under the hood? I don’t have a lift available to use. Thanks!
Great video, question for you we have a 2005 Dodge truck we are holding onto for the granddaughter, it only has 95K on the mileage, it was her great grandfathers.. just yesterday when I came to a stop sign it triggered the check gauges and the oil gauge went to zero (also the RPM gauge isn’t working) once I started driving it corrected itself. It did this one more time about an hour later. We checked the oil it was approximately 1 1/2 quarts low so we put oil in I drove it to work this a/m same thing check gauges light as I came to a complete stop ... the dilemma is my daughter fears something more is going on because the RPM gauge is wonky thinking it’s going to be an expensive fix AND she thinks 95K is way too high for mileage (I’m thinking there’s a ton more miles to be had!) there are no engine clicks, ticks, or other issues it drives smooth no sluggishness or any issues otherwise. Her fear is engine issues or a situation where it runs well until it doesn’t Since she’s a single mom what should she expect in costs to have this done at a shop?
Some models have loose connections behind the instrument cluster that would cause the gauges to malfunction. I can't remember what years. I would check that and check the oil pressure sending unit and do a pressure test. these things are easy and shouldn't cost but a few hundred dollars at a shop. The cluster can be removed on some and the wiring connector can be moved from it's plastic holder to make a tighter fit when the cluster is reinstalled. About an hour labor for the cluster and another hour for the oil pressure sending unit with cleaning out the oil from the connection and another hour for a pressure test should cover it but there could be more and those things may not apply to yours at all. I hope this helps and I would want to keep it with only 95 K miles it should have a very long life left in it.
That truck hasn’t even been broke in. Your daughter is a spoiled brat. Your oil pressure problem will fixed by replacing the oil pressure sensor. $34 at the auto store. The rpm gauge could be have several fixes but rest assure it can be easily fixed.
I have this issue with my gauges and oil pressure dropping only whwn I stop while truck is running and only have slight oil leak at shut off about size of nickel on ground no coolant leak drives fine other than one other issue 02 sensor code (but it's stuck and can't get it off) any reason why this happens? Power steering failure? Also one other issue when I'm low on fuel in tank it really sputters and jumps around through rpms like the transmission is slipping but once I put fuel above 40 DTE it runs great again.. (mostly while uphill). (New fuel pump filter) 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7 Remanufactured engines less than 50k Truck 212,000
My 2002 ram 1500 is doing the same thing. I looked at the switch and it looks like it’s leaking from there and it’s covered in oil. Crossing my fingers this will work, ready dreading having to change the oil pump. I know you used brake cleaner to remove oil. Can I use electric cleaner also? Thanks
@Hot Rod Dave, Thanks for the video. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L where the oil pressure gauge was dropping and then bouncing right back. Changed out the Oil Pressure sending unit/oil switch like you did in your video, but I was looking at the 2 pids for oil pressure sensor voltage & the oil pressure sensor itself with the pressure reading. The volts are at 5 volts when I turn the ignition on, and then cycle anywhere from 1.15v to 1.35v while the engine is running, but the pressure reading pid seemed to be stuck at 47.57 psi. I disconnected the battery cables tonight, and zip tied them together to clear out memory. Any idea why the pressure pid would stay stuck at 47.57 psi ? Also it only did this one more time after starting it and driving it for 45 minutes in a constant 8 block loop with stop signs on every block. Thanks, Mike
No Mike I don't know how to answer that. Sounds like you are doing the right steps. Make sure all grounds and battery connections are clean and tight. Old electronics can do funny stuff and Dodges are hyper sensitive to voltage and connection issues. Hope you get it figured out and let us know in the comments how it turns out.
Hello can you help me ...my truck has been sitting for years I keep forking into it wouldn't crank or start so i put a new computer in and cluster panel...now its will start but my battery keeps getting drained after a day of not running an when i do drive it it chunk and dont wanna go it looses power also wanna know if my linkage is out because I cant get it out of 2wh to drive anymore it hit a big skip an wanna know if my linkage slipped or if my tranny simple went out.
Great video my guy. I have an 2008 dodge ram 1500 and the pressure is spiking high. The oil plug was cross threaded by the last A-hole that changed my oil so there was a slow leak (serves me right for not doing it myself that time). Got a new expander plug and the leak stopped but the pressure is still spiking. I have working AC and heat so i didnt think it was my thermostat. Could the switch youre referring to in this video make it spike high as well? What do you think the chances are of my dash gauge being busted? Thats all I could think of that could be wrong
It could make it high. Pull the oil pressure sensor out and change it like I did and check the plug for oil. If it still has an issue then test for pressure. Or test first
Got an 07 Chrysler 300 clean , didn't change the oil like I did every 3 or 3.5 months. Suddenly the oil lite on changed sensor 2x and nothing still on, noticed the connector showed copper
I’ve changed my lifters, timing chain oil pump and rod bearings and I have just changed the oil pressure sensor and it still doing the same thing what else could cause this
Just got a 08 ram 5.7 and oil gauge is normal when idling then when driving iy drops to 0 and brings check gauges, and cel flashing. Keep getting oil temp sensor high and low code
I have a 1992 b350 and the gauge will drop randomly after driving a bit and go a zero at idle in drive and if I give it some rpm it will go back up the middle. I do have a clogged bypass valve so it’s high normally. Is that likely a bad sensor or should I replace my pump? Ik thinking about doing the pump anyways to not have excessive oil pressure
*Issue figured out I just need to watch more of the video* Mine does that same thing except it the pressure drops with the revs. For example at 35 mph and above oil pressure is normal but as I slow down and at lower speeds it drops to low and flashes "check gauges"
i have an 04 just started doing it tonight after a hard rain getting a sending unit do not have eng noise as i did with my 01 when i changed the pump three times untile i got the highe volum pump it needed to have thanks
Mine is a 2500 with the 5.7, I'm having an issue to where my gauge is saying I don't have oil pressure and then I do. I put a new one of these on and it seemed to get worse. I've not been able to get ahold of my mechanic but he said I had something at the back of the motor block that had 2-3 wires attached to it and it controls my gauge but the parts stores can't seem to get a listing. Going down the road I have no knocks, loss of power and generally I am running great. Just the gauge keeps going off and on with the check gauges light dinging at me. Any information would be helpful if you could point me in the right direction.
Can the sensor be cleaned and soaked in electrical contact spray? My gauge stays high oil level is good on dipstick. Can I run it like this for a week or two before I change the park without my engine blowing up or something?
my 2001 ram is doing this but when the gauge goes to zero something will start ticking until you turn the truck off and back on. do you know if it’s still this same thing
I know this is a Dodge but I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac in my oil pressure gauge is flickering and I do get the check Gage light so should I be doing the same thing as you do here?
It has a oil pressure sensor and operates the same way. You should always do a manual oil pressure test to be sure. The sensor is cheap and easy to replace on most engines. Sometimes it will be a gauge or wiring problem but most times its the sensor.
Got a 2005 4.7 MAGNUM pressure DROPS as I was driving, I am NOT in any way any "mechanic" SO I STOPPED shut off engine checked oil it was fine... I don't have much $$$ so I will buy Sending switch? Have to do from GROUND (under engine as I can fit)....unfortunately. THANK YOU.
It isn't a fuse but if you are asking if the oil pressure switch/sending unit connector should have oil in the connection that would be no . it should never have oil in the electrical connection. That is a dead give away of a bad sensor/switch/sending unit what ever you want to call it. You can still have a bad sensor/switch/sending unit and it not have a drop of oil in the connector. That's why I talk about screwing a manual gauge in the port where the sensor screws in to do a real time reading on the oil pressure .
They can do all kinds of funny things when oil is in the connector or up the wire. That's why I say and stress you need to run a manual gauge test at that port to get a true reading to determine if you have a oil pressure problem or an electrical problem. I have had to cut several inches of wire out due to oil way up in the wire.
Same deal with my 07, actually had it replaced at dealer 2 years ago on a trip to NC fixed issues, but seems to be doing it again. if it sits for couple days on start-up its low, does not fluctuate like before or one in your video. guessing fluid in plug or sensor is bad already. since you seem to know these trucks, maybe you can help. on my 07, on start-up sometimes get a whistle noise, goes away after a bit, some days nothing. thought it was due to really cold, but did it this morning and it was 60. just curious if ever ran into that. runs fine, no knocking or other strange things.
Might be a vacuum leak or the bellow in the power brake booster. Hard to diagnose through the internet though lol. Thanks for watching and hope you will subscribe and like 👍
I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 Van it has an oil light they would come on and go off. It works usually come on when pressing the brakes. Replaced the oil pressure sensor. The light went off but now the gauge stays at 0. Can you give me an idea of what to check now. Please and thank you
I would check the oil pressure with a manual gauge at the port where to sensor screws in to get a real reading of what the oil pressure really is. That way you know if you have a bad sensor or instrument cluster gauge or wiring problem in-between
Still trying to figure out what it is getting ready to turn 19 and is my first car I bought myself un like a lot of kids I know very upsetting drove it AutoZone drove find used the Computer hopefully did it right first time using it worker didn’t come out with me got a couple code but don’t think any of them would cause the gauge to do this
My 04 is doing basically the same thing. I changed the oil pressure sensor but its still doing it. I did notice oil in the plug but not being a mechanic didn't think much of it. Would the oil in the connector plug cause it to still do the same thing? If I take it back out and clean it would it possibly fix the issue?
Yes it will. Go back and watch the part where I explained about the connector and wiring. I gave a full explanation. Hope it works out for you and thanks for watching.
could you give us more detail about the time someone mixed coolant? red and green because here recently ive done just that not realizing what might happen. I now cant get that vehicle to start. it'll crank but it won't catch for some reason. it seems like a fuel problem maybe vapor lock but im not too sure.
Some coolants you can mix but some you can't. It can cause problems with the aluminum parts and can gel depending on what you mixed together. I have not seen it cause a no start but any thing is possible I guess. Sounds like you have something different going on but I would flush all of that coolant out and start over with new coolant
Im having the same problem. Except when i come to a complete stop it stays on low until i start moving again it goes back up. Also a very small ticking. Any recommendations????

Thanks!
Awesome . Thanks for watching
@HotRodDave I'm 400 miles from home with a 25' trailer behind me. So, it is a huge relief that it wasn't anything major like worn-out bearings, oil pump, oil pickup screen plugged, oil pressure relief valve sticking, etc
@SpoonerTuner Safe travels and I'm glad it wasn't something bad
Sounds exactly like what is going on with my '07 4.7. Thank you for making this video.
Hope it helps. Thanks for watching
I have a 98 1500 v8 and mine is doing the same thing I'm glad you made this video so I know what to look for and how to fix !!
Thank you for this video. Symptoms were the same as in the video on my truck. Replaced the oil pressure switch and cleaned connector. Works great!! Thanks again!!
Awesome! Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this video it helped confirm my suspicions, now I know I need to clean everything up really good and may also need to replace some of the wire. Thank you thank you!!! Oh and I definitely subscribed and will be watching more videos to expand my knowledge :)
Thank you. Glad it was helpful
Have a 2005 dodge ram ,when you first start it no oil pressure, then turn off engine and restart you have oil pressure and it will work all day.only on the first start up . thanks
I hope this video was helpful.
Mine does the same thing did this fix work?
@@keezy5670 the best thing you can do is dive in and check the connector. If it has oil in it then follow the steps. If it doesn't have oil in the connector then run a manual oil pressure test with a gauge hooked to where the oil pressure sensor screws in.
Same here. First start, no pressure. Turn it off and restart, runs fine the rest of the day. 04 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. Thanks for the info. 👍🏼
Did it fix your issue?
Your comments and your video was extremely helpful you got right to the point not like somebody's videowell I'm going to go try it on my truck. Just rebuilt the heads so I have a feeling it's not exactly what you showed on the video there's no ticking noise no nothing engine runs smooth just driving one day and a gauge went down so I have a feeling is oil in it I did have to change that switch but when I did the new heads I'll let you know thanks for the help
Hi Dave,
Great suggestions, with running an aftermarket oil gauge. Thank you for the advice.
Thanks, I got an 01 I just bought with 168000 miles on it and this started happening, my heart sank
Hope it helps you out
Thank you for your time…I’m gonna clean and replace that piece and hope it take care my issue…thank you new subscriber
Cool thanks for watching and subscribing. Let us know how it turns out.
Great video. My oil gauge dips down every so often when I come to a complete stop with the check gauges light coming on as well. Goes back to normal when I drive again. Hopefully mine is an easy fix. Thanks 👍🏻
Sounds like the oil pressure switch deal just like in the video
How much are we suppose to thread the new sensor on? Do we thread until it stops or when it is nice and snug?
@@willywill5448 snug
Thank you, I was having the same issue as Blackbird Tech, and looks like it solved the problem. Notice the old sensor full of oil inside and out and I cleaned it out with some brake parts cleaner and gauge looks to be staying dead center...

Man I really appreciate you bro,you nailed my problem for me. Thanks again im your new subscriber👍🏽
Thank you!
@HotRodDave you're welcome bro.
Fixed mine with new oil pressure sensor, oil change and added 1 bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer in place of 1qt. of oil.Worked
Awesome! Good Job.
Thank You getting to work my Durango is fluctuating like this is what I am going to start with
COOL thanks for watching
Process of elimination: (please correct me if I'm wrong)
I have 04 "4.7" 320+k miles.
3. Oil pump
4. Lower main bearings?
Thank Dave for putting time into these videos~~!
Probably the sending unit but with the mileage on it I would put a manual gauge on it and get an accurate reading. Don't forget to clean out the electrical connector for the sending unit.
You are on the right track but sometimes oil flushes can wash deposits to the pan and clog the pickup and then damage bearings.
@@HotRodDave Boy, I sure do like your optimism~! Thanks
Same problem I took her to the shop they replaced it and it’s still doing it. They assured me that the oil pressure is good.
Check for oil in the wiring. Most shops have no clue that is possible
Thanks for stopping by my Channel. Hit the Like and Subscribe to help me grow the Channel. Thanks for watching. Peace!
I have a 5.7 2003 also and my gauge just usually does not move. If you replace yours. Let me know how it goes
Did the fix work for you. My truck has the exact same symptoms
Thank you very much for this post! It was very enlightening! Bless you!
Thanks for watching
It was very educated video thank you very much Sr. God bless you
Thank you
Hey Cheers man! Thank you!
! thanks for you. tutorial, information very important!!.
My truck is ticking too but I keep asking mechanics n they say it’s common with the rams… idk how to fit it, but it’s also doing the gauge thing
thanks for info my 2007 dodge started doing this
Your welcome. Best of luck to you
My truck has started this, but only when at an idle. Runs perfect going down the road.
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 got the same exact problem.
Hope this helps
Yeah I just paid $9200 for a crate motor in my 02. Time for my second go around replacing this switch!
I wish they could make them better
Would this be the same for the 5.7 hemi I got the 06 model
Same concept for all cars. I can't remember off the top of my head where it is located on the 5.7 but yes.
I have 97 dodge ram 1500 with the same problem I think I know how fix it myself, thankyou so much for this video
Thanks for watching and I hope you will subscribe and like the videos.
I would think the Mopar replacement would be the best but I really don't know
My 2007 ram 5.7 has been doing this of late. Just shy of 300k no leaks, no oil burning yet the guage will go up to high here and there. Good video
Thanks
Awesome! I'll try this replacement. Thanks!
Yes sir
Thanks for posting the video. Nice smoker, by the way.
Thanks for watching. Checkout my bbq videos if you are interested.
outstanding thanks. 02 1500 5.9L same problem different location 5.9 is behind the throttle body and distributor.
Yes you are correct this can happen to any car make or model
Thank you for the video big help. But every now and then I get a pop up check Gage light. Then back to normal
It may have oil in the harness. I have seen loose connections at the back of the instrument cluster on some also.
Thanks. Going to try this next week on my 2007 2500. Mine is acting nearly identical to yours. I know it has oil and has pressure because the truck runs fine and it has shown 0 pressure for miles and miles lol I’d have thrown all the rods by this point if that gauge were right. Thanks!
Let us know
That's funny what you said about the brake cleaner burning. It burns when I get it under my ring too. Maybe the skin under the ring is just more sensitive.
I guess you're right. Burns like hell lol 😆
Thanks Brother !!! Mines a 5.9 and I know the sensor is farther back ... just great info for the old school do it yourself if you can mechanic that I am 🤠
Thanks for watching and yes the 5.9 is on the back and a little harder to get to but works the same way
Thanks great explanation and great job
Hi Dave, Is it easier to replace the switch from underneath the vehicle as opposed to looking down on it from under the hood? I don’t have a lift available to use. Thanks!
You can slide under it and get ro it pretty easily
@@HotRodDave Thanks, Dave. I appreciate your quick response and tutelage. Heading out to replace mine now……
Great video, question for you we have a 2005 Dodge truck we are holding onto for the granddaughter, it only has 95K on the mileage, it was her great grandfathers.. just yesterday when I came to a stop sign it triggered the check gauges and the oil gauge went to zero (also the RPM gauge isn’t working) once I started driving it corrected itself.
(New fuel pump filter)
2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7
Remanufactured engines less than 50k
Truck 212,000
My 2002 ram 1500 is doing the same thing. I looked at the switch and it looks like it’s leaking from there and it’s covered in oil. Crossing my fingers this will work, ready dreading having to change the oil pump. I know you used brake cleaner to remove oil. Can I use electric cleaner also? Thanks
I don't know how well electric cleaner cuts oil. I never have used it
@Hot Rod Dave, Thanks for the video.
I put a new switch in. It was an easy install. Curiously, the socket wrench fit the new unit exactly, but was slightly too small for the OEM part.
What socket did you use for the OEM part? I’m having the same issue
This video was a big help on my 2004 ram!
What was the coolant leak?
I find i had identical issues
I never saw it drip again.
I just had my gauge and light going crazy dip stick shows oil I did right before I got home notice a slight ticking. What would you suggest
Run a manual pressure test with a gauge hooked directly to the port that I talk about in the video
Or test first
@@HotRodDave Ill do that today! Thank you very much, Ill report back
Got an 07 Chrysler 300 clean , didn't change the oil like I did every 3 or 3.5 months.
Thank u I've Ben having the same issue with my 5.2
I hope it helps you. Thanks for watching.
I would run a manual test like I talked about in the video. How high does the pressure get?
*Issue figured out I just need to watch more of the video*
Mine does that same thing except it the pressure drops with the revs.
I need your help ,my Dodge ram 2500 2004 3/4 ToN truck loses oil pressure after idle ,? My oil is good new ,is my sensor bad or do I need a oil pump?
You have to inspect it and see if the sensor is leaking and or run an oil pressure test like I explained in the video
All the info is in the video and in the comments, Test the oil pressure with a manual gauge to get a real reading first
Can the sensor be cleaned and soaked in electrical contact spray? My gauge stays high oil level is good on dipstick. Can I run it like this for a week or two before I change the park without my engine blowing up or something?
Why would you soak a sensor that is leaking ?
I figured it was something that could be cleaned like a o2 sensor. After doing some research I looks like you cannot salvage it.
my 2001 ram is doing this but when the gauge goes to zero something will start ticking until you turn the truck off and back on. do you know if it’s still this same thing
Probably not. You need to do a manual oil pressure test at the port that the sensor screws in
I know this is a Dodge but I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac in my oil pressure gauge is flickering and I do get the check Gage light so should I be doing the same thing as you do here?
It has a oil pressure sensor and operates the same way. You should always do a manual oil pressure test to be sure. The sensor is cheap and easy to replace on most engines. Sometimes it will be a gauge or wiring problem but most times its the sensor.
I have a 06 dodge ram 2500 5.9l diesel that does the same. But when I drive it goes back to normal. Would it be same problem.
I haven't personally done it on a diesel but it probably has the same type of system.
Hi Dave Does it do any harm to use an ajustable or slip joint to remove the oil switch?
I always use the socket. I can't say yes to something I don't know about but I'm sure there is another way
Got a 2005 4.7 MAGNUM pressure DROPS as I was driving, I am NOT in any way any "mechanic" SO I STOPPED shut off engine checked oil it was fine... I don't have much $$$ so I will buy Sending switch? Have to do from GROUND (under engine as I can fit)....unfortunately. THANK YOU.
My 05. 4.7 Always does that...sometimes. Somstimes doesnt do it at all. Always has oil so i figured its this sensor.
Correct me if I'm wrong but whenever you remove the fuse if it's just bad it shouldn't have no oil in the fuse sensor at all ?
It isn't a fuse but if you are asking if the oil pressure switch/sending unit connector should have oil in the connection that would be no . it should never have oil in the electrical connection. That is a dead give away of a bad sensor/switch/sending unit what ever you want to call it. You can still have a bad sensor/switch/sending unit and it not have a drop of oil in the connector. That's why I talk about screwing a manual gauge in the port where the sensor screws in to do a real time reading on the oil pressure .
When it read zero at operating temp did it ever go up to the middle when you gave it gas?
That way you know if you have a bad sensor or instrument cluster gauge or wiring problem in-between
Still trying to figure out what it is getting ready to turn 19 and is my first car I bought myself un like a lot of kids I know very upsetting drove it AutoZone drove find used the Computer hopefully did it right first time using it worker didn’t come out with me got a couple code but don’t think any of them would cause the gauge to do this
Question just got my power steering pump and a pressure hose replaced but now the oil pressure gauge is off and on. Any ideas
Check everything I talk about in this video.
Great video well done!!!
Thanks Chris.
Any info on a 06' ram 1500 rpm gauge not working while rest of cluster working fine?
You can hook some scan tools up and run tests on all the gauges. It's probable a bad gauge but you should find someone that can test it
2017 ram 1500 hemi. Low oil pressure light is on even after I replaced oil pressure sensor. What's the deal?
Did you clean the connector?
Im having the same problem. Except when i come to a complete stop it stays on low until i start moving again it goes back up. Also a very small ticking.
Any recommendations????
Run the manual test I talk about in the video and in these comments.
My sensor is still fluctuating after the change in the sensor what you clean your plug with ?
Brake parts cleaner. I'm pretty sure I talked about it in the video lol
