- Final Boss Fight against Starworm with Mina assist. Should be Max Affinity with Mina and Royal.
I picked the dialogue choices that favor Mina and Royal for this run. Not sure if I done everything correctly, since I might have skipped a few cutscenes as I was speedrunning this, and Royal didn't sit right next to Robin in the rocket cutscene for this run, despite the fact he did sit next to Robin in my first playthrough. Overall, not a bad run for New Game+ though.

This game was all about robin trying to stop the quakes because they weren't letting her sleep for more than 5 seconds.
and maybe to make her brother shut up and stop being salty for once.

Now imagine how it must’ve felt for Royal knowing he died pleading to what he thought was his god but was nothing more than some truck.
That's the point of iconoclasts is about iconoclasm "attack or criticism of religious beliefs to overthrow it"
Some people online think the bird might of actually been trying to refill the planet who knows, there is a clear commication barrer and the bird decided yolo I am just going to kill this dump ape who understands nothing.
I never understood why people automatically assumed the Birdman was there to refill the Starworm with Ivory. After all, he was triggered to approach the planet by the destruction of the big Controller thing. Surely he'd return when his fuel ran out, not when the planet sent him a signal? I think he's actually there to FIX THE PLANET. The Controller clearly sent out some kind of 'hey this fuel depot has gone off the rails and needs maintenance' message when it was destroyed. And there must have been lots of Ivory inside the Starworm already given that it caused a HUGE explosion of plants when a seed was placed in it

Here's my theory:
That bird boss was an alien piloting some kind of bioship, however I don't think he was trying to refill his Starworm, as it was bursting with ivory. Instead, I think he is an alien Mechanic (judging my his wrench, and the fact he has all the same abilities, even being able to charge himself up by spinning his wrench), possibly one who had built the mechanical planet these humans live on.
Anyways, he pulls a meter out of the ground showing very low ivory supply. That wasn't his ship's ivory, that was _the planet's ivory._ *He was a fix-it guy who was there to refill the planet with ivory and you killed him.* He began trying to communicate with you by pointing out how low the planet's resource is, flipping through notes, but then just deciding it'd be easier to subdue you. I also suspect the star worm was just a common space-dwelling beast, converted into a bioship through the use of the many controllers you see planted on it (the blue pustules with eyes). We have seen throughout the game how those blue masses latch onto and control practically any entity they come in contact with, and the worm is covered with them inside and out. It's only logical then that such large clusters are needed to subdue the worm to be fit for use as a space vessel. The bird alien and the rest of his kind likely use these worms as ships for their distinct ability to collect, store (and/or possibly generate) Ivory, similar to how caterpillars are valued for their silk in the real world. I mean, look at the worm, it's body is practically made of the stuff. If it can generate or contain ivory (perhaps it's even the creature's blood), this supports the theory that the bird was there for routine maintenance and refueling of the world. Also supports why the worm killed him once the bird's controller stopped working - the blue masses were no longer keeping the creature subdued. It had returned to it's wild state, obviously angry at being controlled.
Something else that's interesting to note is that it's very much implied "the ancestors" are humans from our version of Earth. During the scene in the factory where you and Mina discover a green ark vessel, much like the one the Isi sanctify in their home having been captured and dissected by One Concern, if you look on the side of the ship (in the upper right corner of that room's screen), you can see several different flags of real world nations, including the US, UK, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese flags. Also General Chrome's readings and proverbs are based on real world books and historical figures, further supporting this idea.

I've been reading many different posts on here and Reddit etc and yours is a good summary of what tends to be the accepted / best theory :)
I think the idea with the bird guy is a bit rushed and unpolished by the guy who made this game. If He simply was a Starworm itself, it would make more sense. It feels like the game's lore is heavily inspired by Herbert's Dune, and the Starworm would be nothing more than worms from Arrakis - mindless but unique and wonderful creature, that processes matter into Ivory. But the bird guy - just sits idle on the moon for millenias, allows humans to deplete ivory and in the end gets mad about it. It's just unclear what was he doing on the moon for the whole time. Was he hibernated or what? What for? If there was no other alien on the planet, it had no value for his race. People of the planet knew the Starworm was extremaly dangerous, so that would imply he made contact with them before. But it seems like Royal is the first one who ever woke the thing up.
I get the whole idea of the game - people living there are just progeny of some astronauts / colonizers, who got corrupted by wonders and power offered by alien tech and created totalitarian society driven by religion. But alien sleeping on the moon is a bit off :D
Except if u actually watch the pre-battle cutscene in this video, you can clearly see that the worm is draining ivory not refilling it. So the whole repair man mambo-jumbo falls apart.
And there is no support to the worm crushing him on purpose, the bird was using the remaining hand during the final phase of the battle and it was just sweeping the whole place. Malfunctioning machines are dangerous for a reason and this is the reason - they can squash you.
Until the devs make a DLC, a new game or at least an AMA (that's not vague), this is all just a shot in the dark
Javi B I believe there’s world building I forgot where but it’s said that the planet use to be a fuel depot until the human astronauts came along. They turned the place into habitable mechanical planet. And as you can guess, the astronauts had no idea about the Birdmen. And sometime later the human settlers saw the ship and what it could do, they thought it some sort of cosmic god/eldritch entity. And also needless to say when the Trucker sees what happened to the fuel depot he’s certainly confused(I think he’s looking through the notes to check if he’s on the right planet.). But more angry that there’s no ivory to power the ship along with strange little people bothering him, breaking his ship, and using up his fuel which has more uses than a Swiss Army knife.
Ohhhh so the alien shot robin with the same self doubt beam he hit royal with. Robin was able to fight her inner demons and self doubt in time but royal wasn't..
this made me hate the boss even more
I saw her getting angry after the ray ended, as she getting mad at how that was how royal's life ended + if you want to add to that idea, maybe she tought how it grabbed him in his lowest point in what refers to will to live and self-steem while she had plenty to fight her inners demons with(overall her whole cheery reputation and personality, and her whole deal as a mechanic/fixer).

I find it interesting as Polro is actually Elro's behavior but without his... poor decisions and bad attitude. Wanting family to come first, everything he did was for her. The positioning of him in the exact spot Elro is for the final scene. Even player's choices seem to reflect their feeling of Elro, to care for family first or not... most people don't just as most people don't like Elro. (In terms of him being a good person or a bad one.)
Even his realization he can't control her is at the same time in proxy, as by this point Robin went off to save the world and Elro realized he can't control her.
I'm not sure if this is the actual meaning, but it lines up pretty dang well.

This game is a god damned master piece and one of the best games I've played in a very long time

I mean we face a dark version of our cast, who wasn't represented? Robin. So we face a raven mechanic. While Robin (the bird) is nice and friendly, the raven is nasty and mean. Also they're both mechanics...
First nightmare...ELRO's nightmare...her wife and child dead..u need to stop his berserk rage about that.
second nightmare: All the people killed by that fake religion about "mother" and they don't care about it..u need to stop that fault hunting you.
third nightmare: U need to forgive you for the royal's dead..because u can't save him. that's why u see the moon scatered where the "base" was.
fourth nighmare: U forgive yourself for kill black even when all that happens was the "religion" fault.

He kinda deserved it. Sure, Mother and the mediums were abusing their roles and simply used their beliefs as tools to obtain what they wanted but Chrome was batshit insane. The very epitome of a devout zealot.

the only guys who were happy after the whole mess were the chimecho which kinda depressing considering all of our friends and enemy are either dead or Disable or depressed even the heroine didn't really smile until the end because she really did get nothing of this experience just ptsd of the peoples she witness die or she killed herself

In the game, there is a secret which is called friendship. When you pick a dialoge in conversations which the person likes, the friendship grows. If you have enough friendship, then you can fight alongside her. (And don‘t skip conversations, or it will count as you have taken the first option)
When you have enough friendship, the nightmares will also have flower particles around them.

I think iconoclasts is going to have a sequel because you can see the spores from the ivory beast (agent black mutated by the seeds, ivory, and blue parasite things
Gaming with Zack actually I think the spores might end up giving more life to the planet don’t forget the planet is pretty much made of the stuff seeds are made up of now so the ivory in the spores might end up creating a symbiotic relationship with eachother

Wtf, is Affinity a thing in this game?!?! I just finished it and had no idea it was, and wouldn't hjave known if I hadn't searched for the ending to rewatch it. Seriously, shit like this is what drags this game down from being a 10/10, it makes NO effort whatsoever to explain a lot of things.
I don't think is that important to know what affinity is and how it works. It's a mechanic that was meant to be a secret and be something special for those who get it

Finished this game recently I was mostly disappointed. If it didn't have trophies I wouldn't have bothered playing it as long as I did. Why make a game where you unlock most upgrades after you beat the game?

The main thing which prevented this game from being a masterpiece is the developer's stubbornness to develop it all by himself.
If he had a bit of Steve Jobs skills of bringing a vision to life with a team, imagine what he could've created with his amazing mind... But now we will have to wait another 7 years before he makes another game.
In the span of 14 years and with a team, he could've made a richer and more polished Iconoclasts plus 5 other awesome games
But maybe he just wants to make games by himself. There is nothing wrong with that.
