- Run the Jewels recently took a (smoke) break while working on their fourth album at Shangri-La and taped this podcast with Rick Rubin. Killer Mike and El-P tell Rick about the music that first caught their imaginations as kids, how Run-DMC inspired their philosophy as a group, and who would be the court jester-and who would be a tribe leader-in their post-apocalyptic fantasy world.

Aging like soft leather and remain child-like at heart . The energy was infectious 🙏
Dude, I would just listen to an RTJ podcast.
This Podcast is great, you guys need some promotion. People are missing out on awesome interviews of their favorite people. Awesome Work
No shit I had no idea that was his father’s voice ... I just got floored!!! I love that song so damn much !!!
that story about Mike meeting El's dad makes me want to call my dad just to thank him for being the shit. I grew up in Baltimore. We all knew none of us looked alike or even grew up exactly the same, but everyone was welcome everywhere.
5 minutes into the podcast and this hits so hard
30:00 never scared is one of my favorite songs of all time. Even the Madden remix was dope.
There they are... all 3 absolute icons imho!
This is such a beautiful podcast. Im a huge fan of Killer Mike's work and hearing him and his white friends from this perspective feels genuine and inspiring.
Loved the interview. Cant wait for RTJ 4
Cool to hear the RTJ vibe with Rick. Boosh!
Dope podcast! Please keep 'em coming. Thank you so much!
This interview is great!
how does this only have 25k views
El is a big hero of mine. Im suprised noone ever asks rick questions!
questlove does in the episode with malcolm gladwell
@@anoack well, you know, Malcolm is not Rick..
Love this!
Mr. Brown. I love you El
So good. More rtj interviews
Keep it Rockin>>>
Hats off to ya>>>
Maxwell hat vibez
08:34 Jaime is so stoned he said 2014 instead of 2004
My parents used throw parties like that too. It was the time
High water. Shit meant a lot to me. Hip hop got me into jazz.
I can’t imagine leaving all of your kids with your mother because you met a new man and you want to go and have more kids with that man. That’s got to be hard, that’s where all that soul comes from.
Bet Rick and el-p are one of the same. Killer Mike commands respect with his delivery and smarts.
Now that RTJ4's out, I'd like to know what flawed line Mike's referring to
Have you figured it out??? God I wanna know
@@PhantoLydia Still a mystery!
I just started this interview so i dont have context yet but this line from Walking in the Snow always feels jarring to me...
Thank God that I'm covered, the devil is smothered
And you know the evil don't sleep
Dick Gregory told me a couple of secrets before he laid down in his grave
Sleep just doesnt rhyme with grave at all.
@@squall6789 its supposed to be jarring, "sleep" rhymes with every bar starting at "and they look like me", for all of those "ee" bars he's speaking in the first person, talking about the personal experience as a grain of sand, then breaks the couplet of a standard rhyme scheme (not a new concept in rap, but this verse is an extremely thoughtful use of it) to snag you away from that perspective and suddenly widen out the lens, echoing an elder's analysis of the entire beach to put a bow on it
Theres not enough ads on this video
Took me 15 min to realize that this was a picture and not a video. Gotta put that bong down now.
Bruh 😂😭
LMFAO
El-P makes his older sister sound like Zooey Deschanel in Almost Famous.
Tell Rick to be louder or turn up his mic for the love of god my volume is full
I'm trying to listen to this during work, and a Teams call just made my desk vibrate. The volume is low, and Rick is softly spoken, bad combo.
The irony, complaints about a Rick Rubin podcasts being too low in volume. He should mix is own podcast, bring the loudness up.
R. Crumb like Fritz the Cat R. Crumb drew comics too that's fucking sick.
Three geniuses in the same room attracts a murder of crows 🤯 listen at 30 min
Who'd have known that by 2021 Mike & Jaime would be in Krakoa (invite only) at the Hellfire Gala...
I love this podcast but the volume is way too low for me, have to absolutely crank my speakers for it.
what's the reason for putting out the under 60 mins version,
then just a few hours ago, the over 90 mins version?
2 different podcasts
@@Haydon.F. 😅😅😅
Man these ads are too frequent
RTJ x MAYDAY. Please?
release the fucking dragon, and get us through this "apocalyptic-esk" pandemic. we are all trapped inside for fuck sakes! we know you cant beat box El...
Yummy hairy legs...Rudy fulliani prolly hates run the jewels Lawl. Does anyone here know if Cage and El-p still talk...it would be maaddd chill if those two did a spoken word album and then tried to solve the Steinman hypothesis together. Shout out to Jesus! Not...jk I respect those who do but why do the Hodgetwins still have an eating chann....funny though I must admit no hate here. Peace out and goodnite 😉
Pretty sure Cage is the reason Def Jux folded.
Cage is the one member of Def Jux Ive never heard El-P speak about
cage is pretty wack nowadays anyways lol The last few things hes put out are incredibly boring and uninspired sounding.
0o I Died In A Time Machine o0 He also seems like he lost his mind, only anecdotal but I watched a few of his live streams and he was talking all sorts of crazy shit.
@@dozinoff2614 he talks about him a bit in the new podcast with open mike eagle
