A conversation, by definition, involves back and forth verbal communication. A reciprocal interest and dialogue. This was a self absorbed monologue, not a conversation.

Pharell is basically hearing himself being spoken back at him so he can break down his process further. Rick helps the artist take apart their process to increase their self awareness of their self. He breaks it down with the artist down to a grain of sand just by reflecting them and being curious.

I remember being in an elevator and hearing the song "stepping out" for the first time. It took me back to my childhood in the early 80's and gave me this deep feeling that I knew this mystical world and had heard this song hundreds of times. on an eternal level that feeling stuck in my soul and ive written many of songs based on that emotion.
What Pharrell talks about at the beginning, the way he feels about a chord and try to reproduce that feeling is exactly what I do with image’s moods to design something! And then I try to understand myself through that feeling…. Wow! I never talked about this before to anyone!!! Great! This man is so different and open! Great human being!

One of the most enlightened and level-headed conversations I've ever watched.
I feel so much gratitude for the ability to watch and listen to this interview. This was so wholesome, real and refreshing. Thank you to both of these gentle men and to those responsible for making this happen!
So blessed to witness this interview and Pharell's humbleness never ceases to amaze me! I'll never forget meeting him for the first time through his best friend he was just as humble. A truly great spirit!
Plot Twist: This was a Shazam ad.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Its a gift👌🏾
Lol
never even thought about how useful shazam would be to seeing if you're just re-creating something you already heard somewhere or has been done before... what a gift.
🤣🤣🤣
Shazam is incredible though.
When I said I listened to Pharrells music in middleschool they laughed and joked at me.. I‘m 25 now and I‘m thankful I understood at such young age that this man is a living legend
Daria Rosa same they used to say my ice creams look like clown shoes 👟
That’s strange. He was huge 12-15 years ago. What were the demographics of your school?
@@quitecontrary23 middle schoolers probably weren’t into him at the time 😂
Idk, I am 24 myself and dude was respected
Who laughin?
Well, I was feeling a “little low” today for seemingly no apparent reason. After watching this sharing, that feeling is long gone. Much love and respect to Pharrell and Rick Rubin for the healing.
I remember seeing the Neptunes Presents The Clones documentary when I was little, and every since Pharrell has been my favorite producer. He (and Chad) have so many hits in so many different styles of music. To me, Skateboard P is the G.O.A.T.
Pharrell is the analogy master, like what more can i say.
His analogy's are just on point
ItzSas except you can’t copyright weed.. that one was off a bit.
I loved Johnny Cash’s description of Rubin-“I was approached by this giant man. Hair down to his shoulders but bald on top, a beard that had never been trimmed, and clothes that would make a wino proud”
I love how this is such a deep therapeutic dialogue and the dialect and language they use for articulation is within the musical industry/system
As a woman who grew up in D.C. it is always refreshing when you hear someone talk about Go Go.
What is it?
@@obiobibeezley1828 Beyonce's hit single crazy in love, Lil Kim jump off, Nelly hot in here, Amerie one thing, was all inspired by DC Go-Go music it's a beat that keeps going we also have songs that go along to the beat like Chuck Brown who is the godfather of DC gogo music buster Loose song for example
This is the movie that plays in my head when I talk to myself about music. These two are masters of their craft.
Mine is babyface and Raphael saadiq
This was one of the greatest "interviews" I've ever witnessed. It's bigger than hip hop, it's bigger than music
No way this is bigger than music. No way fr
I come back to this video every few months, always excites me and gets my headspace in gear. Love it.
Pharrell, MADLIB, NAS, DAVE CHAPPELLE, are all born in the same year
quas and nas aged well though, not like p, but they look good
I think Nas looks younger than Pharrell
Your cool
@@himoverthere6716 Nas, Pharell, Fabolus and Bill Bellamy all look young
I thought I was gone to watch an interview. This is like a therapy session.
rick rubin looks like the maxed level of an anthony fantano character
R u a CLASH OF CLAN PLAYER

fortunate to have watched this real conversation between authentic humans. so blessed. hardworking and honest. keep on shining stars!
Pharrell's one of my favorite producers and artists. Incredibly talented, cool and down to earth. You can't ask for more.
Rick: Analyses what Pharrell is saying.
Also Rick: Swigs his tea water.
Bro I’m happy you said that. I couldn’t tell what was in the bottle it looked like a lizard. I legit thought lizard water was the new rich thing to do😂 but then I thought how did they get a lizard in that little hole.
Pharrell - almost 50, looks like 25.
Unlike Rick Rubin who is 25 and look like 69
@@andrewrozhen513 Rick is 25!!!???
@@naledithema9480 it's a joke
@@naledithema9480 😂😂😂
@@naledithema9480 He's lying bro. Rick is actually 26
This interview was amazing. Goosebumps!! Wow!!!! I love it when someone talks about their craft/gift and the way they talk about it you know they just KNOW their stuff in their core, gut and cells, even if you yourself are not knowledgeable about their craft. I'm just speechless. 👏 and the way he talks with those long pauses is just wonderful, seeing him process something in his head and then articulate it, is magic!!! I love it!!
15 min in and Rick hasn't said a word about himself
This is me when talking to coworkers. Multiply that by 8 yrs. 😂😂
I waited to the end! He's a good listener....
Jxrdvn 13:57
He is humble... and mature I guess. A good listener too.
That's because he's I tervuewing Pharell why would he talk about himself? 🤔
nobody gonna mention Killer Mike is there chillin?
I thought that's who it was....😎😎😎🤔
BUDGET BALLER
No 👎 No need for it...
Yeah, I think RTJ is recording RTJ4 in Shangri-La Studios. They posted a picture with Pharrell a few weeks back.
Mans is present
DEADASS
Such an authentic conversation between two minds. Very rare in this day and age. Worth watching multiple times!!
I love hearing people talk about what they love 🥰
respect for the the first thing pharrell says about chords making you feel, and listening to it over and over again.
Skateboard P, meets musical Gandalf.
レブロン
ゆうおり i don’t know what that means, but cool
@@STOPPEDINCOLORADO I wrote Lebron in Japanese
@Antonio Powell Thanks man!

Pharrell: I got with your wife took your house and your kids
Rick Rubin: *nods slowly*
Rick Rubin: Yes
Lol
