I always wanted to write this so I'm going to today... THIS is India's contribution to Classic Rock and it does complete justice to the genre of global giants. This is as good as anything out there! Thank you for such soulful music, wow!!
thank you 👑brings back memories...ws told my frens elder sis..fren..long back..lol..kissed L.Majaw after the concert in Bangi..she ws ove' te moon happy ..He's a cool dude✌❤
When I was young, much younger than now I learnt to swear and make a vow I was so very young in my mind I learnt to leave my past behind I've known hunger, since I was ten And loneliness was my good friend I learnt to smile, when I feel sad And the good times, turnin' bad Yes I'm, on the other side now Across the sea of sorrow Yes I can see the light now I know which way the wind blows I've known love, and hated too And painted dreams, that don't come true I've learnt a lot, yet there's more With every knocking on my door I've known hunger, since I was ten And loneliness was my good friend I learnt to smile, when I feel sad And the good times, turnin' bad Yes I'm, on the other side now Across the sea of sorrow Yes I can see the light now I know which way the wind blows... I am really impressed by this song. First time I come across this band today 17 June 2019
Damn, thats what I call music, its so good to hear you guys again, legend indeed❤ you guys will always be remembered!LOVE FROM TIBETAN COMMUNITY OF COLORADO❤
Thanks much for posting this, had been searching for this version. This was much before the GIR cassette version. I had this cassette but unfortunately it got damaged beyond salvation.
Hei, 'sea of sorrow' is one of the best track from Great Society's album - 'Dance your ass". I remember in the '90s Rock Street Journal had given a complimentary cassette featuring major Indian rock bands in one of its issue and this wonderful song was included. I had tried to convert it into mp3 but the quality of the sound is not satisfactory. Would really appreciate if anybody can upload the studio recording version of this song. Finally, it was great to see the stills of all of you. Cheers!
Sandeep Acharya this was way before Rock street journal exist. The first Great indian rock compilation(vol.1) came up in 1996. And this GS were the late 80's.
Sadly in the late 80s when Great Society approached big music companies from Mumbai like HMV , Music India Ltd. CBS and others..the bigwigs of those music entities just gave a damn believing western originals wouldn't work in India. Had it been they understood the value of western originals from India they would have hit a gold mine for generations to come, Internationally. Unfortunately, things didn't happen then and it is heard that Lou Majaw was seen walking out of the office of big music companies in a huff carying the spool tapes around his neck. It is reliably learnt that the first album named Breakthrough , in which Great Society worked on Sea of Sorrow was recorded in a private studio in Kolkata..Anyways, the good thing is that nobody could stop them from being legend of their own. Hats off to them for bringing such beautiful songs for us..
la bo !! its been 20 + years but the song remains fresh as ever... even better if one is up in the hills. i have mp3s but likewise, rendered from old worn out cassettes. would be glad to pass them if you wish, but yeah, a studio recording would be fantastic. these songs are gems for eternity..
this is a re-mixed version, much cleaner n better sound.. still, the original version was what i grew up with, and was wilder... i have mp3s of the original cassette somewhere..

When I was young, much younger than now
I learnt to swear and make a vow
I was so very young in my mind
I learnt to leave my past behind
I've known hunger, since I was ten
And loneliness was my good friend
I learnt to smile, when I feel sad
And the good times, turnin' bad
Yes I'm, on the other side now
Across the sea of sorrow
Yes I can see the light now
I know which way the wind blows
I've known love, and hated too
And painted dreams, that don't come true
I've learnt a lot, yet there's more
With every knocking on my door
I've known hunger, since I was ten
And loneliness was my good friend
I learnt to smile, when I feel sad
And the good times, turnin' bad
Yes I'm, on the other side now
Across the sea of sorrow
Yes I can see the light now
I know which way the wind blows...

yes, and the fact that it was composed in the faraway Khasi Hills in the late 70s makes it even more special...
