    China's Luxury Mega Malls Top 10 | Billion Dollar Shopping Malls In China | 中国十大购物中心 | 中国豪华购物中心
    Shopping malls in China have come to signify a burgeoning culture of ultra-consumerism, and newer luxury malls like SKP in Beijing or Plaza 66 in Shanghai showcase the quintessence of prestige. As such, many luxury brands have benefited from malls like these that provide an enchanting luxury retail destination. But is the mall retail model becoming stale now that luxury shoppers are switching to alternative channels where they can experience - and ultimately purchase - luxury brands? Here, we’ve outlined four trends shaping the future of shopping malls in China. This video will answer all your questions.
    Global revival in the personal luxury goods market has been powered by the dynamism of consumption in China and the US
    Shopping online is serving as key channels for the luxury sector's recovery worldwide in the pandemic era.
    But in China, luxury brands continue to strengthen their control over retail distribution channels by working together with leading shopping malls in first and second-tier cities as consumers prefer to shop nearby.
    At the end of last year, Christina Wang, an executive at an online travel platform, decided to reward herself with a luxury bag and a wool and cashmere coat.
    She bought the first one at SKP department store in Beijing, a leading high-end luxury shopping center, and the latter at the Hainan duty-free store.
    China's share of the global market has almost doubled in two years to 21 percent last year, according to the consultancy firm Bain & Co. In 2021, the majority of offline retailers suffered from a decline of customer traffic due to the impact of COVID-19.
    Luxury consumers in China also prefer a good bargain. The business performance of outlets has seen a rosier picture this year thanks to discount prices offered on international luxury brands.

    Chinese malls are full-service lifestyle centers. In these palatial centers of retail therapy, there are restaurants, cinemas, children's play areas and adult recreation. We need to copy China in North America and make our malls more user-friendly especially for people like me who don't really like shopping.

      While China's malls are tailored for all around fun, adventure, and the works of arts as well as shopping, the US's malls are now more than ever tailored for one thing and one thing only -- making money! That's why it is so easy for Amazon to steal all the businesses away from the American malls -- because they are so boring and have nothing to offer beside a few stores offering the same things that you could easily find on Amazon and other online sites!

    With the growing middle class, the shopping mall experience is not only for teenagers but seems to attract the whole family to another level of feel, touch and interactive experience that you couldn't do online. They are thriving online because of the support system is so very robust and the speed is legendary. You have covered quite a few major cities.

    • @twlamSG
      @twlamSG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agree with you here. Most shopping malls in China is not a desolate single mall away from civilization with only road connectivity. I believe many are built together with their train system in mind. So if you exit from the train station you have underground connectivity or cover walkway connectivity to the malls. It is more than just a shopping place but a gathering place as well as a place to unwind. As you have mentioned, China is growing it's middle class because it believes the true power of a self sustaining economy is a huge middle class.

    Given the size of these mega cities in China, and their populations, it makes perfect sense to build these huge amazing shopping malls. If businesses within these malls in China were not successful, I doubt they would continue to build them in other large mega cities. Granted, some of these malls market luxury goods which average shoppers have no use, but yet there is a market out there to sell the product to those who can afford to shop there. From the street corners, to the open air markets, to the shopping districts of many stores, retail marketing product is always evolving. It is apparent where online shopping is headed, and that just might be the way of shopping in the future. Shopping malls in my area of the USA have all but disappeared. I miss the fun of spending a day, roaming and shopping around in the malls. Especially in the winter months. If one takes an overall look at what the Chinese have accomplished in terms of futuristic infrastructure, product development, and overall growth, it’s hard to find many (if any) failures. If one day I should visit China, and I don’t have to take the Lanying Cliff Road to get there, I would definitely love to wander through any of these gorgeous amazing malls! 👍👍 Thumbs up to Alex, Julija, and the entire Reporterfy Media & Travel team for putting together another exciting and educational video for all it’s viewers! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

    These malls are beautiful structures compared to some decrepit malls in America. Some failed malls in America have replaced failed stores with kidney dialysis, public aid, & physical rehabilitation facilities as the mall slowly crumbles. China's malls are a vibrant expression of the life & luxury available to a growing number of folks there.

      @Ken Wigger - Ah so right you are about our malls in the USA. Just as you stated, the retailers are gone, and the store areas filled with medical or government assisted program offices. My uncle managed a shoe store in our local mall here for years. The mall was the place in town to shop. Unfortunately, mall owners kept raising rent prices, which drove the retailers out. After that, Walmart came in and that was the end of our shopping mall. It has now been torn down and replaced with a new Meijer’s Store. Don’t ever plan on a shopping spree here, because besides Meijer’s, all we have now is Walmart and Target. Farewell to the small business owners!

      This is just in the city centers of major metropolitans where most people work long hours, an easy weekend chill for the whole family at a mega mall makes sense especially during summer time because -- FREE AC, entertainment, food, groceray/gift shopping, spa, can be all done in one place. But even the biggest tier 1 city is but a tiny dot on the map, that's how big China is. So what you're claiming is only the substrata of a tiny % of the city folks with busy schedules. If you travel to more places in China you'll see the outdoor is overcrowded, everywhere. Chinese people fudging love the outdoor, you have no idea. 🤣

    I think maybe this is the only way malls can survive anywhere - that is , combining entertainment like movie theaters, rollercoaster rides, indoor boat rides in a park like setting, offering services like spas and good restaurants. For a place like China, a lot of people don’t go to a local park to take a walk like people in the U.S., so that might be the only way to draw people. Otherwise, it’s much easier to shop online. Thanks again for producing these high quality videos, Alex! How wonderful it is to see what’s going on in China during a time when it’s not feasible to travel to China.
