Worth A Buy whoa! what's an old fashioned joke like this 5:00 doing in a TH-cam video in 2018! you just begin for dislikes? XD......... nah I'm sure at this point it get you more likes than dislikes.
The devs gave the customers the middle finger by deliberately & greatly misrepresenting how it's graphics look in every preview video they released to hype the game.
Summary: It's a fun game that gives the player a lot of responsibility for their actions and that has got to be a good thing. As I said in the review you have to be careful who you kill, once they die that is that, no more quests from them and also the area they lived will suffer a drop in morale. Also if you don't heal people the morale drops which causes people to flee, monsters to lurk and if you are the one killing then the vampire hunters will increase. It's like a player controlled difficulty level which adds a lot of fun to the game. Sadly the biggest problem aside from visuals is the combat, it's gets very repetitive due to the lack of powers at your disposal, two weapon attacks and 5 vampire attacks, you can swap them out for other weapons and attacks but you can only have 5 active at a time. The bosses do get a little challenging late game, i died a few times but overall if you keep your powers well upgraded you should not have any huge trouble and as simple as it is I still enjoy most of the combat, especially the dodging. So if you don't mind outdated graphics, bad lip sync, simple combat then have at it because the rest of the game is a blast to play, just a shame the publisher got the price wrong, thank goodness for Greenman Gaming.
IKR, I really liked that game. We'll except for the conversation choices where all the good choices are in pink, I HATE THAT!! Its better those choices are available but not highlighted and you have to actually think about what you should say cause it ain't an RPG experience when the answers are given to you!
Maybe one day a developer will pick up the original Kain series, and give us the 1st person vampire game I've always wanted. Chained women in your luxuriously decorated castle, there to feed on at your leisure. Bathing in blood to level up your skills. Blimey 😁
I don't know why everyone is saying the graphics of this game are bad, I've certainly seen much worse. Andromeda comes to mind and that was a AAA game.
I have the game on Pro. The game's graphics are PS3 level at best. Totally playable, but extremely dated (which describes the gameplay, as well). Poor textures, stiff animations, small levels, etc. Not a great game. More of a budget game you pick up for 15 or 20 bucks and play if you're between big releases. Not an essencial experience whatsoever. I was disappointed, as I really liked Remember Me and expected better from Don't Nod.
Walt Morgan I played it on PC and the graphics didn't bother me at all, I thought they were pretty good tbh. In the gameplay department I do agree, it was ok, not good not bad just ok. The story was interesting but a bit underdeveloped, the climax was abrupt although it did give the game closure. I think it should have had at least one more act but that's just me.
@@mike3894 It's a AA game, there is literally nothing more to say dude. This game is a great buy for 40 dollars.
I actually love the idea of xp gained from conversations and feeding on pray rather than combat. It makes sense in a way that you learn new stuff from conversations in Real life too (even if that is a price reduction in tkmax). I have only bought this game yesterday and by far I like it a lot. Atmosphere is thick, feel of dread and hopelesness among common folk is great, small beacons of hope like a good doctor are rare and really resonate with you. Feeding on someone who you have spent some time getting to know actually stays with you for a while (you know their backstory, some of their hopes and fears) and you get to hear their last thoughts as you proceed with drinking their blood. It is a AA game and I can tel a lot of love went into this project.

Discovered this through playstation plus and what a gem. Really enjoying it. Such a change of pace and being a "nice" vampire healing the populus and chattin away is very good. Only on chapter 3 but find myself itching to get back to it
I don't know why you think it's necessary for games to have good graphics. That's one of the reasons games are dumbed down nowadays. They can just wow everyone with amazing graphics and then not have to worry about the gameplay because casuals are just going to see the game on a tv ad and think "wow that game look incredible I have to buy it!".
Graphical presentation is important, but not close to as important as gameplay of course. The graphics in this are a mixed bag but I don't think they are half bad. Maybe 5 year old graphics, but not 10.
Makes sense that you get more exp from non combat things as getting into combat and killing may expose you to the people that you are a vampire. You need to blend in and feed in secret, though its too bad it isn't as good vampire: The masquerade bloodlines interms of gameplay and a few other things. I think the devs of this game have taken a lot of inspiration from the manga/comic/anime Hellsing

And Vampire the masquerade - Bloodlines. Still sits as the best Vampire game. Is it really that hard to make a good vampire game, can no one make another world of darkness theemed game or bring it as close as posible to that setting .Damn just thinking of bloodlines on a bigger better engine with a bigger open world more stuff to do more clans, disciplines ect(and without a boatload of bugs most importantly). Makes me kind of sad knowing it will most likely never happen.
@jigga jaw Not really had to be there. I barely played VTM Bloodlines this year and I LOVED it despite it's blatant flaws and being outdated. The game came out in '04 and was released unfinished because publisher deadlines, and it's obviously not like the devs were a big AAA team. My huge disagreement with you is that the voice acting in the game is excellent and one of the best things about the game, especially for 2004. It was the first thing that impressed me about the game because of how old it is. Goes to show, to each their own.
According to linguistic scientists, the word derives from ancient Greek because its using the Greek verb -πι (pi), Vam-pi-re. Pi means drink in Greek language. In the book of Katharina Wilson, The Vampire: Casebook, University of Wisconsin, it explains that the Word is a Combination of Greek, Slavic and Turkish word nowdays. The word has its root to Anc. Greeks but evolved in Balkans. Like many other words...
By the end of the game I killed everyone I was allowed to. But then it was a very lonely, empty game, haha. No one to blame but myself! Damn my bloodlust.
This game SHOULD be called GossYp cause that's what you do for 75% of the game, chatting with folks about their favorite subject THEM. Then they'll get all catty and talk about other people. Another 20% of the game is wondering around looking for the person you just got done gossiping about so they will tell you about someone else while rummaging through garbage cans for supplies and enjoying the occasional rat like some undead homeless person. The last 5% is the clunky fighting system which everyone hates.
Well ... this is a NICE review. Finally more poised, and really Rare to find this good review out there, you have a good "suggestion" coming to my mind when you say 13:20 that the 3rd person in combat is cluncky... Well.. Since I know what you like, I agree that it could be made going to First person (choice of FPP, just like in Mad Max people can choose in car between TPP and FPP). Maybe the game would have been much better like that. I guess they can't add a FPP now. Maybe a locking either. But maybe it's like this to make it more difficult and make fights SKILL based less Grinding based (Most games nowadays).
Yeah well we all got our keys at the same time, not really early press keys but as I am in the UK I had less time to get my review out compared to USA :) I think mine was the first youtube only review out that made it to the end game so I am pleased about that :) I can't really compete with IGN and co for speed as I am a one man show.
well not having a dead lock on itself is a kind of FUN and SKILL. Think Armored Core, Nier Automata. But they got an option to allow you get a lock up by customization which makes them even greater.
My only complaint is that consequences aren't as apparent as I feel they should be. I know killing someone will reduce the overall community, but some deaths pretty much cause outright chaos. 1st playthrough problems though.
Quick question, are there any time limits? As in, can you roam around and explore at your own pace or is there like a timer for each day so there's a constant pressure to get shit done and go to bed? How you said people can catch this disease... Does that happen in real time or just as a consequence of you not seeing to them?
Depends on the source. In World of Darkness (and a lot of others) you have to take out all the human blood and add vampire blood. In a few sources it's caused by something else completely, like a deal with the devil.
I think it's worth a bite on sale. Not entirely sure it's worth the full suggested retail price. The game is somewhat short, and if you compare it to AAA titles, it's just hard to justify. It is a really fun game though, and it's fairly well made considering it's a small dev team. Even 25% off would be good I think.
Firstly my personal theory about the game’s title is that it’s a reference to the 1819 book called “The Vampyre,” by Dr John Polidori. There’s too many coincidences, main character is a doctor called John, 1918-1819 and the spelling is almost identical, just dropped the “e”. I can report lock on with a controller is fine, seems based on distance from character, switching is as easy as could be, just a flick of the right stick. Also, Mack did you see the ghostbusters Easter egg in the hospital?
Worth A Buy Well thanks Mack, I wasn't sure rather to refund the game or not after buying it 1 day before release. I bought it and looked back at the trailers which showed mostly combat, making me think I was buying a darksouly combat game, just the combat game. But now I know it has more to it, good to see that people come up with this stuff on the world
I wish you mentioned one really broken aspect of the game which the game actually revolves around: being good or bad. To me, I see no reason why I should be an asshole vampire. I haven't sucked the blood of any NPC yet (outside of combat) and I still get enough XP for combat to remain easy. Why should I suck the blood of NPCs, with the chance of a bad outcome of the story, if I don't feel like I need to? Jonathan should be craving for blood, as a newborn vampire, but as a player... I am not getting that at all. At. All.
It's really ironic too because the game tells you repeatedly if you "Eat people faces" it gets easier because you'll have a lot more XP. Well if you are gonna up enemies spawn and level then it's irrelevant.
Mack, when talking about the combat in this game you compare your character's dash-like ability to the roll in Dark Souls or Witcher 3. You have mentioned several times how you dislike the roll, and you said it made you dislike the combat in Witcher 3. The thing is, you need to replay the Witcher 3, because you really were, "doing it wrong", as they say. You don't use the roll in Witcher 3 the way you do in a game like Dark Souls, or the dash in Vampyr. In Witcher 3 you use the Parry. The Parry allows you to avoid an attack and instantly counter-attack the enemy. Often this will trigger a decapitation or a severing of limbs on human opponents. You really only use the roll in Witcher 3 to avoid things such as the Griffin, when it dive bombs you. Or if you need to get out of the way of a gout of flame or something. The roll in Witcher 3 is not meant to be spammed in normal combat. If it was I would have hated the combat too. You use the Parry MUCH more than the roll in Witcher 3. I mention all of this, because you said you hated the combat in Witcher 3 because of the rolling. And you must have really hated it, because you mention it repeatedly in your videos. And that's a shame that you had a bad experience in a great game, all because you were, "playing it wrong", as it were. Watch some Witcher 3 combat videos. Players that understand the combat rarely ever roll. You are literally trashing the game because you didn't understand how the combat works and were spamming the roll button all the time. That's like saying a fighting game sucks because all you do is spam the leg sweep over and over, instead of learning the combat and the other moves available.
I used to listed to this "podcast gameshow" that had a supernatural tone if i remember right but it was funny and that guy who hosted it sounds just like you and does the bell thing. I would bet real cash you were the same guy.
Blizzard screwed up tab targetting in cata. It's all messed up now, you will hit tab and it will target people to the side, people behind you, it's a mess. I agree with you it used to be awesome.
Mack, I’m not sure if it has been mentioned already in another video where you’ve complained about The Witcher 3 mechanics but I just wanted to point out that you’re not supposed to “roll on the floor like a prick” during combat. There’s a very effective “dodge” button as well as “block” that you should be using 90% of the time. Rolling around uses up your stamina which you need to cast spells: I can’t think of why anyone in their right mind and with a little bit of gaming experience would be doing that. It completely ruins the combat, maybe that’s why you didn’t like the game.
totally agree about the 3rd person mode and the God-awful camera. I find that you can be in combat with multiple people and the camera moves to some ridiculous angle, you're being multiple attacked and can't see a damned thing. It's ridiculous, frustrating and can cause you to get killed. Imo they should do like Skyrim and let you flip between 1st and 3rd person mode. The other thing worth a note is that it's auto-save *only*, so if you get killed, for instance because of the stupid camera and not being able to see your attackers in time, you could end up having to do the whole of the section again, and again, and again. I think overall it's a worthwhile game but it would really benefit from better camera control/1st person mode and as you say, the graphics don't exactly scream AAA title+price tag, they're more like a 2015 game. As of the end of 2021, they never sorted that out so I don't think it merits more than around £20-£25. Thanks for your review - I always enjoy your brutally honest, tell it as you see it, reviews :)
I just got this from the Epic Store for $7 US, and can now take a bite out of it! I'm confident I'll get my money's worth. Note, you need to add the free $10 coupon in the store, which will then knock it down from $17 to $7. I think the sale goes to January 1st. Happy drinking!
Thank god they chose third person because we can actually see the character and us turning into vampyr. first person would have been horrible like a camera moving around
I would recommend just marking it down to your watch list or something. So when it gets a big discount, you can pick it up. I personally have tons of fun with this game. I also have problems with it, but it's something different, so it's nice.
AH NO! Mack said women like to talk. A woman joke. Feminist force unite. You know Mack, I like real people. And I love to watch your reviews because you're a real human being. Thanks for being one. Keep it up.
are you really comparing a nearly limitless budget game like detroit with an AA title? also cheaper? in my opinion the game looks pretty good for what it is. i will agree with the models and animations looking a bit rough but in general seems fine to me.
i don't know about the UK but in my region (spain) detroit's price si 69,99 € on playstation store while vampyr is 49,99€ on steam. thats a lot more than 5£. also i don't understand how you expect the same level of graphics and polish from a game with a lot less budget and presence as detroit. i guess everyone have their own standards on what they think is good looking and polished but for what this game is it's fine. again i'm not saying it has no flaws but it could have been worse. Also i prefere having it looking a little worse but with good performance in pc which is my main platform, and for what i've seen the game runs pretty good.
I Agree , here in The States it's $60 so for the same price as AAA Games , it should be as equal quality cause if not then AA Budget games need to be priced at $39 , can't have it both ways besides this is only a AA single player experience meaning once you finish it you wont touch it again , wait for the price drop i wouldn't drop $60 on this game .
Your voice at the beginning reminds me of the guy who did voice overs for American action movies of the late 90's. Except he was _American_ and your not. But other than that. Its spot on.
Just finished editing Detroit become human, will upload it tomorrow.

Ninjagamer 247 as French? Your definitely French
the croissant shaggers*
Vampyr is a common pronunciation all over Europe. It originates from the Serbian words "vampir" and it is pronounced just like that.
I'm not but its "You're"
8:47 is definitely the spookiest part of the video. lol
8:47 Nobody notice the enemy just T-poses towards him?
So, you liked things in this game, that you hated in Witcher 3, even though they were done better there... interesting.
yeah he doesnt get witcher, I got over it in time
8:46 that T-pose though, such technique
"is it worth a bite" I saw what you did there Mack lol.
Thanks for the review Mack, will probably pick this one up through the week
This is one of my favorite games ever, the voice of Anthony Howell takes it to another level
That T-posing enemy model at 8:48 was horrifying
Well ... this is a NICE review.
They normally give little xp for combat to discourage grinding
Was checking your channel regularly for the last couple of hours waiting for this!
Yeah well we all got our keys at the same time, not really early press keys but as I am in the UK I had less time to get my review out compared to USA :) I think mine was the first youtube only review out that made it to the end game so I am pleased about that :) I can't really compete with IGN and co for speed as I am a one man show.
I've been checking your activity regularly for the last couple of hours as well waiting for your comment on Mac's Vampry review!
"Women are going to love this game. The amount of talking that you do in this game is off the fucking scale" Lmao
well not having a dead lock on itself is a kind of FUN and SKILL.
Its a great game, played it few years ago, combat is so much fun and great atmosphere, very recommended
This just came to Game Pass looking forward to playing it
Quick question, are there any time limits? As in, can you roam around and explore at your own pace or is there like a timer for each day so there's a constant pressure to get shit done and go to bed? How you said people can catch this disease... Does that happen in real time or just as a consequence of you not seeing to them?
Turning someone into a vamp(y)r requires a blood transfusion. I thought it was just the bite alone for a long time myself.
Depends on the source. In World of Darkness (and a lot of others) you have to take out all the human blood and add vampire blood. In a few sources it's caused by something else completely, like a deal with the devil.
This makes me want a game based on Blade movies
I really can't wait for the WAB review of Post Scriptum!
But this WAB is great as always.
Looking forward to watching this in my lunch break tomorrow
I think it's worth a bite on sale. Not entirely sure it's worth the full suggested retail price. The game is somewhat short, and if you compare it to AAA titles, it's just hard to justify. It is a really fun game though, and it's fairly well made considering it's a small dev team. Even 25% off would be good I think.
Vampyr is actually the closest pronunciation in English to the original Serbian word, where the first "vampir" was "made". :)
Филип Пешић I knew that cause of Buffy! 😂
Polish too Wampir = Vampire
surprised you want lock on combat, lock on targeting is what makes rabbit the death machine he has been shown to be in games
I don't, I want first person freedom but if I have to have third person lock on then the WOW version is the best
They also missed the opportunity to make bad ass looking finishing moves / executions, both with weapons and the vampiric powers.
Worth A Buy Well thanks Mack, I wasn't sure rather to refund the game or not after buying it 1 day before release. I bought it and looked back at the trailers which showed mostly combat, making me think I was buying a darksouly combat game, just the combat game. But now I know it has more to it, good to see that people come up with this stuff on the world
Waiting on that Detroit become human wab, you'll either love it or hate it and rant for 10 minutes lol
Well if you are gonna up enemies spawn and level then it's irrelevant.
bravo Angstrom. this game is not ground breaking. if why da why da why???
I find your reviews to be the most honest.
Im a Vampire. Whats the best job for me?
Oh I dunno...
HOW ABOUT A DOCTOR!
Nearly pissed myself laughing when he said about women loving this game with the amount of talking that goes on in it hahaha Mac is the man :)
Cully Cullen89 it’s not that funny....
1:08 I don't know that game looks pretty fucking blurry to me.
8:46 The feared T-Pose attack technique!
It was £20 odd on CDKeys the other day, seems like that's what it's really worth.
"Vampyr, is it worth a bite?" Oh fuck me, nexxxxt :P
Mack, I’m not sure if it has been mentioned already in another video where you’ve complained about The Witcher 3 mechanics but I just wanted to point out that you’re not supposed to “roll on the floor like a prick” during combat. There’s a very effective “dodge” button as well as “block” that you should be using 90% of the time. Rolling around uses up your stamina which you need to cast spells: I can’t think of why anyone in their right mind and with a little bit of gaming experience would be doing that. It completely ruins the combat, maybe that’s why you didn’t like the game.
Vampires can't roll dodge, the splinters will kill them.
totally agree about the 3rd person mode and the God-awful camera.
Have we given up on Mackscorner videos coming back?
Maybe because detroit become human is like a fucking cinematic mac christ
The way you said 'vampyr' sounder just like in dutch, not french. Although we write 'vampier'.
I hope you do Detroit Become Human review
EJ Garza dude read his comment at the top....there's your answer bud
A Filthy Degenerate Didn't see that. Thank you
No worries he's a great reviewer! No bullshit and down to earth
Well he also mentioned it in the video..
Was waiting on this, but didn't pre-order it as it just looked ... unfinished on the Xbox at least. Think I'll pass, but thanks for the early review 👍
SweetBolin on Xbox One just dont preorder in general lmao
Jacob Allen pretty much lol
I would recommend just marking it down to your watch list or something. So when it gets a big discount, you can pick it up. I personally have tons of fun with this game. I also have problems with it, but it's something different, so it's nice.
Yeah just wait for a decent discount and then buy it becouse now it feels kinda overpriced.
TheThirdPenguin 806 Yep £55 on Xbox, no thanks.
Having fun with the game as well. Nice review, Mack.
Two words Mack: independent developer.
Mack just want to thank u because I bought prey because of u and I loved the game keep up the good work
Great game
leveling up a perk tree in bed.... hmmmm
Ay mack, cant wait to finish this vid, been looking forward to this one.
AH NO! Mack said women like to talk. A woman joke. Feminist force unite. You know Mack, I like real people. And I love to watch your reviews because you're a real human being. Thanks for being one. Keep it up.
i have to admit..im the kind of gamer that will take a graphic hit to get the game running 60fps.. and this does look super smooth
Pretty sure the devs said it was pronounced vampire even though it's spelled like it should be vampeer
are you really comparing a nearly limitless budget game like detroit with an AA title? also cheaper? in my opinion the game looks pretty good for what it is. i will agree with the models and animations looking a bit rough but in general seems fine to me.
There is only £5 difference between Detroit and Vampyr so in my world they are pretty much the same price so that means I expect the same polish.
i don't know about the UK but in my region (spain) detroit's price si 69,99 € on playstation store while vampyr is 49,99€ on steam. thats a lot more than 5£. also i don't understand how you expect the same level of graphics and polish from a game with a lot less budget and presence as detroit. i guess everyone have their own standards on what they think is good looking and polished but for what this game is it's fine. again i'm not saying it has no flaws but it could have been worse. Also i prefere having it looking a little worse but with good performance in pc which is my main platform, and for what i've seen the game runs pretty good.
it might not have a lot of gamepay but it's a game. it uses a game engine and it runs on a videogame console so yeah.
You can get this for £30 on instant gaming, they usually have the best deals.
"Is it worth a bite?"
*ends video*
Your voice at the beginning reminds me of the guy who did voice overs for American action movies of the late 90's. Except he was _American_ and your not. But other than that. Its spot on.
I like how he praised a ps4 game for the beautiful graphics and then 20 seconds later talked shit about console graphics
