That is an awesome haul that just keeps giving. The tool community is generally a friendly and knowledgeable group.

I couldn’t be more pleased with this whole community, and with this box in particular, it’s truly a once in a lifetime find and sharing it amongst interested people has been a real joy for me!

I love Moulson Bros. plane irons. I have about a half dozen and I have never been disappointed. All with my old wooden planes.

I’ve never had any until now, they’re quite nice looking, very seem to be high quality steel. I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed with any iron or steel originating out of Sheffield.

The knife from Germany reads 'Solingen'. A well known and famous place for everything made into precision iron...

Hurwood is one of many companies Stanley bought. They made cool screwdrivers. The pitch black handles are my favorite. Parallel pliers are ubiquitous for jewelry and goldsmith. Love a RioGrande shopping spree. Great place to buy more tools.

I like the repaired wooden spokeshave with the screw through it. I have a handsaw where the top horn on the handle was reattached with glue and a finish nail. Has held up just fine. The perfect handle wrench marked for B&S is pretty cool. Gotta imagine it came in a kit with a machine.

Makes sense, I think it’s maybe the third or fourth HD Smith stamped tool I’ve found, the rest have always been unmarked or made by Irwin.

Scrapers get used to scrape paint and other finishes off things. The point and round kind are used for moldings, around doors etc or on fancy furniture. there's different sizes with different radii for smaller and larger moldings. If your work requires a lot of scraping, you end up shaping your own favourite shapes (I worked with a furniture restorer, he had dozens of them). The size you have there, with a very small similar one, a triangular one, and a rectangle one are your basic shapes. they should cover most uses.
very nice chest. I'm always in two minds about these. a big part of me wants to keep all the tools together, for the future. If you're not going to, documenting them like this is the next best thing. So many of these old chest were split up and all context was lost. History was lost that way.

Very much so, though I suspect when the owner passed a lot of stuff was added for ease in passing it along.

Scoutcrafter did a video (recently I think) where he cleans up boxwood rules using Bar Keepers Friend. That particular brand contains oxalic acid.

I’ve used it on cast iron but never wood, I’ll definitely give it a shot on something broken first, thank you for the tip! 🙌🏽⚡️

I had to laugh because it looks like you are going through my tool box. The reason that folding rule is bent is from putting it in your back pocket and sitting on it. Don’t ask me how I know. The one with the blades is a bevel, shorter blade is for smaller spaces, used by shipwrights. The plane on the long handle is a box scrapper. That tack lifter you showed at the beginning is used by upholsterers and shoemakers for when they temporarily tack something and pull them out to keep adjusting their work, a leather trimmer looks different . The chest in your thumbnail is exactly like the chest my in-laws have that was handed down from an ancestor when he came from Scotland in early 18 hundreds. They call it a sea chest.

Great stuff! You are pronouncing Starrett incorrectly though. Just imagine the first T is silent. Sta-Rett.

My very first unboxing I just held the camera in my hand while filming and several hundred people showed up to tell me I was an awful human being because the motion made them sick.
I’ve been tempted to do it again, no such thing as bad publicity as they say. 🤷🏽‍♂️😏😂

@@toolscrounge That's funny. Seems a large portion of TH-cam trolls are complaining about production quality. Everything gets compared to these multimillion sub channels with a team of professional camera men and editors. Most of my favorite content is filmed in someone's garage or home though. If you made it I'd watch a throwback (or throw up) episode lol
