Sometimes I unveil a toolbox purchased at a garage or estate sale.
Other times I fix stuff, paint stuff and break stuff.
Mostly I make messes, and sometimes art, but far too often they’re the same thing.

Random Tool Haul No. 07, November 2024
Hello All!
Last weekend I Finally attended a sale, and it was a spectacular one, lots of digging to be had, inside a giant barn no less!
I'm gonna start this video off with a few cleanups of tools past, and then I'll round it out with my pickups from last weekend.
The season seems to be ending, but that's fine for me, I'll definitely keep you appraised on the goings on including the website which is a few days behind currently.
Some things just take time, and I don't have control over the backend part.
Hope you like these finds, and as always, thanks for watching! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Hello All! Last weekend I attended no sales, I had to help our kid and her boyfriend move into their new place, I miss them already but am enjoying the extra space. I did spend some time restoring many new tools for selling in my upcoming web store, a few of them were from past hauls and a few items weren't. I did pick up a few pretty decent tools from the local reclamation store as well as fro...

Hello All! This week I only attended one sale, and I believe I git the best stuff that was there. Last week I mistakingly thought this sale was going to be more tool oriented, but it really was more of an eclectic mix due to it being a former antiques dealer that is retiring. Anyhow, there was a lot of digging to be done, and I did a lot of it. I found a few gems and a weird item or two... Hope...

In this video I present last weeks finds from a flooded FEMA farmhouse that was slated for demolition! In this mix, there are some tools gifted to me by a viewer named Mark, boxes, household sundries and other oddities. I went to one sale this weekend but didn't find any tools, just some household items, so if I don't find anything during the week I'll share any finds that I might in an upcomin...

In this video I have one weekends worth of stuff, but I also found some stragglers from the last video that I didn't cover so those are featured at the beginning. In the near future, I've decided to do a dedicated video covering toolboxes and tool rollers specifically, though I do have another weeks worth of stuff to cover before then, and who knows what might come up in-between? A little something different from my usual toolbox “unboxings.” Still not a lot of full boxes available these days, but thats fine with me I guess, there are plenty of things to be had, and this last Labor Day weekend seems to have been the been the peak of the season, especially for Proto Tools! In the video I mention sharing some larger rolling boxes etc. which I fully intended to cover, howe...

A little something different from my usual toolbox “unboxings.” I still seem to be missing the mark finding any full boxes, or as in the case this last weekend, I’m not getting there soon enough! Maybe I’m just not hitting my groove right now? Anyhow, there are plenty of sales going on and I still do pick up tools, no box needed! $35 Misc. Waterloo Mechanics Tote Box!
มุมมอง 1.8K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally, after a long dry spell without any new toolboxes, I finally found one decent enough to buy, and on the 4th of July no less! It's a Waterloo branded box, but of the mechanic's tool variety, not the Waterloo toolbox company. I asked around some groups and a former employee all but confirmed it. I've had different branded versions of this box before, one was a Proto from the late 1940's o...

This week we’ll go through the final two levels which include mostly woodworking chisels and wood carving tools, and finally the collection of wood planes in the very bottom of the chest. Hey Scroungers, we’re back with part two of the motherload box! This week I’m covering the findings down into the second drawer of this chest, before that I covered some of the items from last week that I had a little trouble identifying, or needed some details on. Kind of the nature of the tool game really, stuff gets used which means it gets dirty, and sometimes it gets rusty as well. It’s ho...

$5 Craftsman Garage Sale Toolbox Unboxing - The SALE Season is finally HERE!

Well finally the spring garage sale and estate sale season is upon us! While I wasn't looking for a sale, I found one anyway and it was pretty busy! Camera work is crummy, This guy has no idea what this stuff is. I hated watching this.
Then it’s not for you, so why did you watch it?
Very cool finds Jason! The clean ups turned out great. Wouldn't mind seeing some of those filmed. I like the oilers a lot. The Snap on dollies should fetch ya pretty penny I wish tools wouldn't have went to etching it never lasts. , Nice Jerry can too. Take it easy Man.
The big gear came off a hand cranked corn shucker you would put the ear corn in and it would strip it basically I'm almost positive
I can always count on the community to know what stuff is, I never in a million years would have gotten that one, thank you! 🔥
Great to see those clean up projects! The cannon balls, Jerry can and jack- o-lantern were killer cool!!
Thank you!
Iron City used a Star logo.
That’s a possibility I hadn’t thought of, this looks hand stamped but I’ll investigate. 🤖
Great video. I don’t mind the longer videos. I would love to see a shop tour.
Shop tour will be happening for sure!
Cannon balls are really cool! Like the little hand sander also. Thanks for sharing
Awesome... George N Sterns 1864... Exactly where you're getting this comment from.. Porter-Cable also started here in 1906. In Syracuse New York. And then turned into Rockwell tools.... Great video. Amazing finds.. I'm stoked I came across your Channel... And they say going down TH-cam rabbit holes don't pay off LOL.. stay safe man..
Thanks for sharing. That Kennedy box is cool
Jason…. Look for the vintage tool swap meets in your state to sell your tools. We have several in So. Cal. A great place to buy and sell.
I do look around from time to time, there are a couple but they're a bit too far for me to reasonably travel. There was one guy that tried to start one locally, but he's kind of an asshole and nobody wants to deal with him. Plus, he was charging $100 per booth straight out of the gate and for an unestablished market with no vendors... I tried explaining to him that it needs to be built up slowly over time, but he just got mad and kicked me out. I thought about starting one myself, but it's a lot of work and I don't have the resources or connections. Still, I do keep my ear to the ground for spaces. I'd think that with all the empty historic commercial buildings sitting vacant, more people would be chomping at the bit for it.
@@toolscrounge I understand. The ones down here are organized by a club and are free.
@@MarkTomich I think I need to move! 😏
Great haul as always, thanks for sharing those clean-up projects. I Was wondering what your rust removal procedure was and still keep the original paint. I love the results, that is the look I always go for but it's hard to keep the paint and remove the rust. Thanks
I mostly use evaporust but it can be finicky with stuff that’s painted and rusty, you have to keep a close eye on things. I’ve gotten to where if I care about the paint I don’t soak it at all, or for short periods. I’ve lost some paint on a few pretty valuable items so the claim that it’s “safe” for painted stuff is only accurate to a point. Thanks for watching, I appreciate the comments too! 🙌🏽
Cool tools you do good videos I look forward to them stay safe
Thank you for watching them! 🙌🏽
Facebook Marketplace for large items local, and eBay for all the stuff under a pound or that will fit in the USPS Priority flat rate mailers/boxes they supply you for free is how I do it. I also paid the year on the ebay store... IMPO it started working for me when I started listing atleast 1 item a day... some say it a eBay algorithem (sp?) Thang or some caca-cito , but i dunno bro , it just works for me, list everyday , sale ALMOST every damn day! :) Dig the vids , as always Thanks ferrrrrrrrrrrrr showin' ana sharin' , Amigo
You have a little bit of resemblance to jimmy diresta😎
Well, that’s one I’ve never heard before 😆 I’ll take it as a compliment! 🙌🏽
Hey Jason, I don't use ebay or etsy..I sell mostly on Facebook Marketplace but if I'm purging and selling bulk I go sell at the Flea market. I've had a lot of success in the past selling at the market. You see how much I haul in weekly. But that being said most of what I get is traded. I am being a lot more picky about what I pick up now a days. Great video. I liked it a tool haul and some project updates. Take care Buddy!
Marketplace is ok, but I don’t like FB in general, plus people like to ghost me. For bulk sales I seem to do ok having garage sales or an occasional flea market, there aren’t really many of those around here, it’s more of a “pop up” kind of thing. We’re sorely lacking a regular flea market scene and I don’t really know why, the farmers market has a facility for it but they only use it once a week and the people that run it aren’t very interested. Trading stuff is my favorite thing really, it makes me so happy when someone finally gets that thing they’ve been seeking out for a while! 🙌🏽
@@toolscrounge I hear ya about FB. It seems like people where I'm at don't want to pay anything at yard sales they just want you to give it to them. We're lucky here we still have a few good old fashioned Flea markets that are open year round. The picking is getting rough it's the crafty/holiday season. I'm looking for wrenches and sockets..Not ghosts and goblins. LOL. And Yes seeing someone genuinely happy to get that thing they were looking for is the Best.
I think it awesome you pick up church keys. I have recently started grabbing them when I tool hunting. Great video.
They're pretty cool, and don't take up a lot of room, which in my case is definitely a plus!
Awesome finds brother! That scraper and wood plane sre by far my favorites.
My favorites as well, but I really enjoy everything I find. Some items just stand out as clear favorites! Thanks for watching!
Hey Jason! Fantastic haul. I love the church keys and the scraper is a beauty find! My inner 13 yr old self giggled too much about the flea spray..ahh never gets old. Take care and I'll catch up with ya later.
20:43 I think that is for brick masonry or possible for carpeting on stairs to get tight in the corners.
Makes sense, I was seriously thrown off by the shallow profile edge on it, but if you needed to get into a tight corner, it would be perfect! Thanks for that perspective! 🙌🏽
That Craftsman 19/32 and 25/32 double box end wrench I believe it's from 1937 to 1947 I'm not sure what the the O casting Mark signifies but on the larger end of the wrench should be where you should see the v-series it'll be very hard to see but it'll be a faint raised V I know this because I have one one I believe my wrench is 3/8 of inch and 7/16 on the other box e n d side
I recall hearing that before it was determined that we’d use 1/16 or 1/8 that the military and other tool manufacturers wanted to use 32nds. This rings true that most old wrench sets I find have lots of 32nd sizes. I also think the wanted to use 32nds for the anvil sizes on ratchets instead of 1/4, 3/8, 1/2..
@@neeko7878 I heard a lot of theories also and I don't know if there's any truth in these theories on sizes like 31/32 11/32 so on and so forth was used in the military so that way if Machinery broke down and had to be left behind the enemy would not have the same size wrenches and sockets to get it up and running those old sizes are still useful in some cases like 31/32 is just shy of an inch so if you had a rounded 1 inch fastener you can try using using a 31/32 size to get the Fastener off if the Fasteners not rounded off too bad just like 19/32 I've used a lot in replacement for 15 millimeter and usually it works fine
@@neeko7878 you mentioned Anvil sizes and I forgot to mention there was a 9/32 Anvil size on ratchets and breaker bars not very many tool companies went to that size I can think of Snap-on as one that did and there might be a few more tool brands not really sure but I think by the 50s the quarter inch Drive Anvil was adopted and the 9/32 was no longer
Loved that challenger small tool box
Nice finds! The magazine looks like it is from a .45 Colt, and the brass thing is a finial from a lamp, the very top part you unscrew and mount the shade under, and it holds it in place. I ended up scoring a Fluke cheap, as it had a dead battery and I couldn't test it at the sale. Not that I need another one. Also a cool old book on trains from the 20s.
Great video, Jason. I just found your channel. I'll be catching up on your past videos
@@michaellindsay8934 Glad you found it, thanks for being here! ✨
That Dia Compe “sideways screwdriver” is for tightening the screw that holds the brake handle on a bicycle with drop style handlebars. The handles were notorious for coming loose and the T shape gave extra leverage and the blade was ground to fit the straight screw perfectly. I haven’t seen one of those since 1980!
Hey Jason! That was some nice tool gifts you got. That is probably some of the cleanest Proto I have ever seen. You know i'm always on the hunt for it. You got a lot of cool finds..For the non tool things love the bottles I way over collect old ones.. I bought that green paint a few times and it didn't spray worth a crap. So when you use it let me know if yours works good or not. The tools of course the plumb and the tool boxes. Take it easy Man!
@@Uwannawatch Thanks man, quick tip on the old spray paint I’ve found to work (about half the time) is to store it upside down for a bit before shaking it up. Sometimes I shake it, store it upside down and then shake it again after. I think the pigments themselves can get too settled and have a hard time reincorporating back into the solvent part. It works well for spattering old cans too, try it and let me know
The pen light looks like an old continuity tester missing the wire with a small banana plug and alligator clip .
@@dennismccall9237 I’m thinking you’re right, thank you! 🔥
Very cool haul I like the cantilever tool box I have not seen one in the wild yet.
They’re wild, I often wonder what the person who came up with them might have been like? I imagine they were either very precise and analytical, or very weird and kind of kooky, I can’t decide! 🫠
@@toolscrounge I agree they are different
The brass thing is a handle to a razor, the threaded end is where the razor head goes.....The Gumout can with the Lawnmower is Fantastic!
Now that you say it, I 100% see it, I have two old school razors like that too (not that I use them much these days) 🧔🏽♂️😂 I just love the old graphics, Gumout is one of my favorites too, they designed so many different ones! Thanks for that, the brass handle was kinda driving me bonkers! 🥸
I like that you offer alternative ideas for some of the items beyond their original intended use. I am not that creative so I appreciate them. Thanks
We all see things differently, I’ve always had a pretty active imagination, it’s gotten me in a bit of trouble before! 😏 (Nothing too crazy) Thanks for that, it’s a high compliment! ✨
Thats a nice spud wrench, they are magnetic they draw me to them especially the old ones. 😁 Nice snag overall. Lots if fun clean up projects to have for many more years.
Same here, they’re such a great and uniquely specific industry thing. I have one that’s an adjustable wrench too which was kind of a wild find! Thanks for watching! 🪚
It's a 45 clip
I figured someone would know for sure, thank you! 🔥
@@toolscrounge your welcome
Just keep doing what makes you happy l like anything that is older and brought back to useable condition thanks for the video
18:22 the tapered handle on that adjustable wrench allows you to put a cheater-bar on it to increase torque/leverage. Excellent find and better than the similar wrenches with a non-tapered handle but instead a large hang-hole making it impossible to throw a pipe on the end
18:01 that’s a mortise chisel. It is beefy so it won’t bend when you are chopping-in a mortise (driving the chisel nearly straight down into a solid piece of wood with the intent of hollowing-out a large portion of wood). A normal thin chisel will bend if you attempt to chop a mortise
17:38 that’s a joiner’s mallet for joining two pieces of wood. A carver’s mallet has a round head
8:19 I have restored those before. Take some bluing solution to it if the markings are weak, then use a block and sandpaper to remove the surface blue (leaving darkened markings). They clean up real nice
I too love old scissors. For some reason, that fondness sharply increases if the handles are japanned
Jason, nice haul. Hope to see you at Maker Camp. I'll bring cash. 😁
Ha, I wish I could make it this year, sadly I can’t, I tried though! Have fun! ✨✨✨
A dead man's toolbox.
Seems to be the case most of the time, unfortunately.
That yellow box is sick just the way it is
Agreed, my plan is to keep the exterior the same and rust treat only the inside. 🔥
Great stuff, lots of cool items. Love that Victorian door knob. But that Craftsman sharpening stone in the box is the bomb! Great find sir.
The knob is probably the favorite non-tool pickup in a while, hopefully I can find a use for it somewhere. Thanks for watching! ✨
Cool finds!
Drift pin
Jason everything you picked up was fantastic, But the oil tins would be the top picks for me. I never find them with the curved spout! Take it easy Man!
SCORE! Nice haul bro, love me some Plomb!!! ............. LIVE CRAB , out >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Rod look like m16 cleaninng kit rod. Should be in green pouch
That would explain the internally threaded end. I have a few different cleaning kits including one in a green pouch, I guess it just didn’t click. Thanks for pointing it out. ✨
Very nice score with the vise mounting bracket. You can use that doorknob as a cane topper. I buy all the metal rules I find... (if price in my favor). The medical jar would be perfect for holding 0000 steel wool. Measuring cup. It okay. Just the tip.... The bowl would be fantastic with ham fried rice! Sharpening stone looks stellar! Peck, Stowe & Wilcox! Awesome! Draw gauge is neat. Haven't seen one with metal handle. Cleavers are always fun.
Some fried rice sure sounds good right now! 🍚🍣
Simonds Fitchburg, MA
That would be more of a joiners mallet. Carvers mallets are usually round. That Buck Bros mortise chisel is nice. Goes well with the mallet.
Am I the only one that thinks this guy looks a little like Aaron Lewis?
Especially when my hair is short… it’s been awhile though. 😏
