Yeah I like the pilots and other mid sized SUVs, but this was admittedly targeted toward those that want to use it as an off-road monster as well, with aftermarket support.

Unfortunately in North America you cannot buy Mitsubishi Pajero. Will be excellent competitor to toyota. In EU it is very popular. In Japan military truck type 73 is based on mitsubishi pajero.
Many alternatives to the 4Runner are not available in your country. From Toyota: Prado Lc70 series Fortuner From nissan Patrol y61 X-terra (unfortunately, only 4 cylinders) From Mitsubishi: Pajero Montero From isuzu: MUX (only has diesel engine) From ford: Everest
It would probably make due for most people, but for some real off-road enthusiasts that bang these 4runners they might miss the other overbuilt pieces underneath (cast iron pieces)....though with enough skid plates it might be good enough :).
The xterra is very reliable. I have hands on and two in family…and much cheaper than the runner, it’s the best used option given how runners hold their value. Some people may not know that, but yes runners are great, just some people can’t afford them
That wasn’t all of them, typically 2005-2009 but I hear ya. Compared to most modern cars that was a minor issue, costs about $1,100 for 200k of driving. look at these modern vehicles with wet oil pump belts that cost thousands as a maintenance item :)

I've taken my FJ to Moab, Utah as well and the ride comfort by far is better on the FJ. A person doesn't need much modifications to make an FJ off-road worthy. 4 Runners in the other hand need more mods. FJs are technically reliable jeeps

It’s really hard to justify buying a used one especially when it’s also a 5th gen, those things hold their value so well like the FJ cruiser…

I would have to agree on the Xterra. They were very solid as long as you avoid/fix the smod issue. Very solid motor and a beast off road
Yeah I'm surprised more people don't realize it. Just look at how many miles some of them have on the used market, they are very durable.

I had a 2007 FJ I traded for a 2013 Tacoma. I miss that FJ. It was a great vehicle. I wish they were still made. Sad Face

2 of the 3 are also basically toyotas... and the other one is only as reliable if you get certain years tho... this is why we f with the runners.
