    You.Are.Legend. I can’t think of the last time that a creator did content like this where they actually take the time to teach their subscribers how to achieve certain looks by using people in their tutorials rather than just trying to explain it to their audience. A much needed breath of fresh air and it couldn’t come sooner. Honestly Sam, you’re the best beauty influencer, makeup artist and human on YT hands down, and it feels like you’re bringing life, skill and sass back to the beauty community and your subscribers!! For once on YT, you make us (the subscribers) feel like you actually give a shit.

    I'd love to see you do makeup on someone with actual monolids that doesn't fake a crease. 99% of the time I see monolid tips it's all about faking a crease or doing a cut crease and sometimes I do like a full glam cut crease but other times I want to just work with my eye shape and do something softer and more everyday that embraces my lack of a crease.

    • @ldubss
      @ldubss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      No shots on Sam because this video is 💣💣💣 and I watch a lot of makeup artists who don't have features like mine because it's interesting. But I find Asian makeup artists on TH-cam are the only ones who really achieve what you're asking for. Many, including Asian-American artists, do the fake crease you're talking about. I highly recommend Pony and sichenmakeupholic!

    • @hafsahussain7007
      @hafsahussain7007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I learned this trick on how to find that "crease". Just follow your orbital bone. Basically where your eye socket ends and the bone starts. Use that as your crease and you'll get the look you're searching for. Hope that helps!

    • @kirstenleung78
      @kirstenleung78 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Still very much ignoring the issue that it's still relying on faking a crease to achieve a more westernised look rather than actively embracing monolids.

    You are becoming my favourite TH-camr, Sam. I love this new emphasis on the makeup rather than the product. I think you've rightly noted that there is a glut of review-centred channels on TH-cam, but fewer and fewer that are just showing you what to do with the makeup, as you and Wayne Goss are doing, instead of just telling you what makeup they like. You are making my makeup application skills better, and speaking as somebody who is just starting a new career in the makeup industry, that makes you priceless. Thanks for what you're doing!

      Yes! And can you do them on someone a tad older? 5 years ago I could rock a wing, easy-peasy. These days they droop all over the place. It takes so much over-compensation to make work I just don’t bother.
      I’m only 30, I can believe how much my eyes have sagged. You cant tell generally, but throw on a winged eyeliner and it becomes aggressively obvious!

    In a different video do you think you could show similar makeup looks but on different skin tones? Because as a POC I always try to recreate looks but since my skin is darker it's tough especially if the person has paler skin. I loveddd Nolans eye look but for me all those colors would just blend into my skintone.

    • @maryssaburgo7461
      @maryssaburgo7461 5 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      I know I'm not Sam, and I would love to see her artistry on as many varied people as humanly possible, but I've struggled with the opposite issue - I'm translucently white and when I try a look that someone with darker skin did, I look like I got socked in the eye. My trick has been to sort of judge the colors they're using based on it's variance from my skin tone rather than the true color. For example: Nolan's inner/outer corner was a warm tone, a few shades darker than his skin while the center of the lid was a shimmery color that was pretty close to his skin, perhaps a bit lighter. In my experience, you can follow the same guidelines to "translate" the look to your skin.

    FANTASTIC tip on model #2, re: mirror placement, looking down, and how that will affect brush placement. I'm in awe of the awesome tutorial this vid is!!! Thank you. I feel like I've been blessed with an afternoon makeup class. Could you do a tutorial where you define words that we hear You Tubers use: Halo, Cut-Crease vs. Crease, etc. I hear those terms in, but they're often not defined. Is there a universal definition that artists use? SO wish you could do my makeup...here's dreaming! Ahead of time, thank you so very, very much!!

      @@samantharavndahl My biggest issue with winged liner is that my crease comes down almost past the outer corner of my eyes. If it weren't for that crease, I could prob figure out a wing, but I have no idea how to work around it. If it's not too late, could you please work this in somehow? I can't be the only one with this problem! Thanks girl!

      @@alyshababrah476 Hey girl! I have the same problem! What I've found is that instead of taking my winged liner up as most people normally would, I like to take it out. The part of my crease that comes down on the liner then gives the illusion that it's going up. I also don't make the line completely straight, it's hard to explain, but I leave a little bit of a divot where the wing connects with the rest of the liner so that when my eyes are open, the line looks smooth. I hope this makes sense hahaha

    This is such a valuable video! I think most of us are exhausted by & frustrated with the lack of resources on this platform. So many videos and creators claim to provide tutorials, but me watching someone do their makeup on their own face that is in nooooo way similar to mine isn’t actually teaching me anything. This kind of video and your ethos as a creator focuses on providing me with tangible techniques that you explain & demonstrate in an approachable, accessible, and crystal clear fashion. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us & helping me understand and value MY face.

    I am absolutely loving these classes from The Ravndahl School of Makeup Artistry!! ❤️❤️
    I would love a class on using foundation to contour/bronze the face. I love the concept of cream contouring and bronzing but products in the "affordable" range that have the right color and formula have been so hard for me to find! And there are literally no tutorials on TH-cam on this topic. It would be so helpful to learn how to choose the right formula, stick vs liquid, how to pick the right colors for your shade and undertone, blending tips, placement, and how to apply using regular technique and your new "reverse foundation" technique... basically I want everything, all the knowledge ever. I know, I'm super needy. But you are just, well, amazing. So. Yeah.
