As someone who has cystic acne and have had it for years, your response to your own acne is very inspiring for lack of a better word. Do I want acne? no. Do I have it? Yes. Am I going to let it make me less confident? No. That’s the mindset I’m hoping to have this year!

Sam was a big help for me back when I had adult acne. Turned out I had a hormonal condition & my skin went back to normal after treatment but I stuck around because she makes great videos & I love the deadpan humor.

As someone who has acne, you have no idea how helpful it is to see you be so indifferent about your own acne. This sounds dumb but it makes me feel like I can be beautiful, wear makeup, and still wear cute outfits and hair while still having acne on my face.
Anyone who says “why do you still have acne?” has never had severe acne and doesn’t understand the struggle of trying to get rid of your acne. It is truly a struggle that often lasts for years for most people. It’s not as simple as washing your face or using salicylic acid. It’s very hard!

Yes, very true! I have cystic acne around my mouth from hormones and I'm currently healing from them. Asking "why do you still have acne" is the dumbest question in my opinion...if anyone asks this, think about it, like what answer are you expecting? "Oh I LOVE acne so I still have it" like no...I mean its great to accept it, especially if its a long struggle, but I don't think anyone LOVES having acne. It should also be noted that if someone asks this of someone they don't know too well, the person with acne could easily not afford good products or treatments, or even good makeup to cover it up. Take a second before you ask dumb questions people!
@@laurenmelissa6988 yes, money is another factor. Many of the treatments that really help with acne are expensive and might require several visits. Or you might have to go to a holistic doctor to find the root cause or get extra testing done to see what’s going on in your body. All things that usually aren’t covered by insurance and cost a lot!
It's because people know acne sucks & if they had they money, they would go to great lengths to get rid of it. She has the means but still has acne. That's why ppl are asking.

I wish companies that produce mini/travel sized items, would do so in a way that allows the consumer to reuse the container. Overall it is more eco-friendly, and if the consumer actually enjoys the product and wants to purchase a full size, they have the travel container to refill for other purposes. Just a thought xoxo
Your acne is what made the biggest impression on me when I first found your channel. I'm sure you've heard this before, but I'd never seen anyone confident in their skin on the internet with acne before (all those youtubers with three pimples saying they have acne...), and it really was meaningful for me. I also appreciate seeing how makeup looks on skin that actually has texture! I'm happy to see it isn't the right thing to say either, though, cus I know that shit hurts!

I wanna talk to the people commenting about your acne . I don’t have face acne but I have body acne , I have a condition called hidradenitis suppurativa. If you’re someone who’s bitching about people showing their acne online take a seat. It doesn’t do anything for you to see her acne , you can click off but for us who can’t get rid of our acne , for people who watch Sam and maybe cannot get a prescription because of money or can’t find the right treatment , it’ll do great things. It’s inspirational to watch someone live their life in the spotlight not hiding something that you have and is ashamed of. It can uplift viewers and change so many things in their lives.
It does nothing to hurt anyone to have her not feel like she has to hide or apologize for her acne; but it DOES help those of us who had/have acne to feel so much more okay with it. ❤

Your brand is insane! I started with glow lust. Fell in loooove. Then I moved to owning all your smoke reflect shadows, lol and they are STUNNING!! The packaging of everything is insanely gorgeous! Very high-end packaging, ingredients, and products. Yes, it's a lot for some but you are not selling it at that price BECAUSE of your name. That honestly made me trust you more from watching your videos. I've not been disappointed at all. Shopping, shipping, packaging through mail, everything is quick, easy, and reliable. Influencer brands, that are cheaper, tend to be cheaply made and packaged as well as riddled with issues. You have integrity and it shows in your products.

Hey Sam...just a thought on the potential mini sizes. Don't go for luxury packaging. Yes, have it be something you're proud of and is esthetically pleasing, but I think possiby the price point could be reduced by less product as well as less luxury packaging. Also on the minis, it would be cool to have a duo or trio set. Possibly the price point could be cheaper to buy a set than individually. I would definitely consider buying a set for traveling. Also those folks who possibly simply could not afford the full size would have the opportunity to purchase a mini. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future!

One of the things that I love most about Sam is that she has set very strict boundaries on her life and has clearly stated that while she is a content creator, that doesn't give anyone the right to demand or expect anything from her. It really opened my eyes to how much access (especially this day in age) that we have to public figures, and how horribly we do treat these people. It's clear in this video that people feel like they have the right to make hurtful or rude comments without any ramifications.

These are my genuine thoughts before even watching most of the video: sure, sometimes I miss you uploading makeup content more consistently. If you uploaded makeup reviews, "first impressions," and "products I won't repurchase" videos every day, I'd probably watch them because I find it easy to zone out and relax to that sort of content. But if I'm honest, the influencers who upload a new video with new products every single day, make me anxious. It's not sustainable, and there's a lot more to enjoying makeup than constantly buying new products (even though I watched you more for your personality than product recs, since I don't buy a lot of makeup anyway). I appreciate that your content has evolved, that you're being true to yourself, and focusing on what's important to you. If that means fewer uploads and less makeup-specific content, I can live with that. I've grown out of taking in as much makeup content as I used to. I'd never want anyone to shit out more videos just to get more subscribers or upload content that didn't resonate with them. I can always go back anytime I want and rewatch your older videos for free. You've given a lot of yourself over the years, and ultimately you owe your subscribers nothing. I know you're appreciative of us. I've always found it odd when people act like influencers owe their subscribers something. The attitude, to use a Mean Girls reference, is sort of "I, like, invented her, you know what I mean?" Yes, subscribers enabled you to have this career, but in return you provide them with free content, so nothing else should be expected of you. If they no longer want to watch the content you're creating, they can devote their time elsewhere, it's really that simple.

Oh ya. The discussion on pricing is so interesting. The same kind of thing happens in the art industry and when I was taking a business class I heard a story of a realtor who became an artist and right from the beginning she charged high prices for her pieces and she got alot of flack for that but really it's about setting an expectation for your brand and about the quality of the product. There was alot of other business mumbo jumbo lessons from this story that I have forgotten lol cuz I took that class like 10 years ago but the point is, is that this realtor knew how this all worked cuz she had done it in real-estate for years before. And she was very successful even tho there was alot of shade about "how dare she charge these prices when I've never heard of her before." But she was supper successful anyways. This kind of this happens in so many different areas of business. So good job girl! Your doing great. You wouldn't have haters if you were doing awesome things.
Love this analogy. And let’s be clear as well that men rarely get as much criticism for these things. People take it for granted that if a man (and more specifically white and cis male) or male-run business is charging high prices it’s worth it, but women are expected to justify it. Anyway I’ll happily buy one or two things from an amazing independent woman-owned (or otherwise underrepresented person-owned) brand rather than a whole bunch of things from big mediocre fast fashion type brands. That goes for makeup, art, or anything else.

I think you may have forgotten that your subscribers from the early days have also gotten older and become interested in other things. We too have had children, plant obsessions and mental health issues. Makeup isn’t my top priority anymore either. People can grow together or grow apart, I for one have enjoyed growing together!!

As someone who has acne, you have no idea how helpful it is to see you be so indifferent about your own acne. This sounds dumb but it makes me feel like I can be beautiful, wear makeup, and still wear cute outfits and hair while still having acne on my face.

Anyone who says “why do you still have acne?” has never had severe acne and doesn’t understand the struggle of trying to get rid of your acne. It is truly a struggle that often lasts for years for most people. It’s not as simple as washing your face or using salicylic acid. It’s very hard!

Yes, very true! I have cystic acne around my mouth from hormones and I'm currently healing from them. Asking "why do you still have acne" is the dumbest question in my opinion...if anyone asks this, think about it, like what answer are you expecting? "Oh I LOVE acne so I still have it" like no...I mean its great to accept it, especially if its a long struggle, but I don't think anyone LOVES having acne. It should also be noted that if someone asks this of someone they don't know too well, the person with acne could easily not afford good products or treatments, or even good makeup to cover it up. Take a second before you ask dumb questions people!
@@laurenmelissa6988 yes, money is another factor. Many of the treatments that really help with acne are expensive and might require several visits. Or you might have to go to a holistic doctor to find the root cause or get extra testing done to see what’s going on in your body. All things that usually aren’t covered by insurance and cost a lot!
Especially as a woman with acne where your hormones like to change on a whim so controlling any kind of acne in general is just a task in itself.

I wish companies that produce mini/travel sized items, would do so in a way that allows the consumer to reuse the container. Overall it is more eco-friendly, and if the consumer actually enjoys the product and wants to purchase a full size, they have the travel container to refill for other purposes. Just a thought xoxo

Your acne is what made the biggest impression on me when I first found your channel. I'm sure you've heard this before, but I'd never seen anyone confident in their skin on the internet with acne before (all those youtubers with three pimples saying they have acne...), and it really was meaningful for me. I also appreciate seeing how makeup looks on skin that actually has texture! I'm happy to see it isn't the right thing to say either, though, cus I know that shit hurts!

I wanna talk to the people commenting about your acne . I don’t have face acne but I have body acne , I have a condition called hidradenitis suppurativa. If you’re someone who’s bitching about people showing their acne online take a seat. It doesn’t do anything for you to see her acne , you can click off but for us who can’t get rid of our acne , for people who watch Sam and maybe cannot get a prescription because of money or can’t find the right treatment , it’ll do great things. It’s inspirational to watch someone live their life in the spotlight not hiding something that you have and is ashamed of. It can uplift viewers and change so many things in their lives.
It does nothing to hurt anyone to have her not feel like she has to hide or apologize for her acne; but it DOES help those of us who had/have acne to feel so much more okay with it. ❤

Your brand is insane! I started with glow lust. Fell in loooove. Then I moved to owning all your smoke reflect shadows, lol and they are STUNNING!! The packaging of everything is insanely gorgeous! Very high-end packaging, ingredients, and products. Yes, it's a lot for some but you are not selling it at that price BECAUSE of your name. That honestly made me trust you more from watching your videos. I've not been disappointed at all. Shopping, shipping, packaging through mail, everything is quick, easy, and reliable. Influencer brands, that are cheaper, tend to be cheaply made and packaged as well as riddled with issues. You have integrity and it shows in your products.

Hey Sam...just a thought on the potential mini sizes. Don't go for luxury packaging. Yes, have it be something you're proud of and is esthetically pleasing, but I think possiby the price point could be reduced by less product as well as less luxury packaging. Also on the minis, it would be cool to have a duo or trio set. Possibly the price point could be cheaper to buy a set than individually. I would definitely consider buying a set for traveling. Also those folks who possibly simply could not afford the full size would have the opportunity to purchase a mini. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future!

One of the things that I love most about Sam is that she has set very strict boundaries on her life and has clearly stated that while she is a content creator, that doesn't give anyone the right to demand or expect anything from her. It really opened my eyes to how much access (especially this day in age) that we have to public figures, and how horribly we do treat these people. It's clear in this video that people feel like they have the right to make hurtful or rude comments without any ramifications.

These are my genuine thoughts before even watching most of the video: sure, sometimes I miss you uploading makeup content more consistently. If you uploaded makeup reviews, "first impressions," and "products I won't repurchase" videos every day, I'd probably watch them because I find it easy to zone out and relax to that sort of content. But if I'm honest, the influencers who upload a new video with new products every single day, make me anxious. It's not sustainable, and there's a lot more to enjoying makeup than constantly buying new products (even though I watched you more for your personality than product recs, since I don't buy a lot of makeup anyway).
I appreciate that your content has evolved, that you're being true to yourself, and focusing on what's important to you. If that means fewer uploads and less makeup-specific content, I can live with that. I've grown out of taking in as much makeup content as I used to. I'd never want anyone to shit out more videos just to get more subscribers or upload content that didn't resonate with them. I can always go back anytime I want and rewatch your older videos for free.
You've given a lot of yourself over the years, and ultimately you owe your subscribers nothing. I know you're appreciative of us. I've always found it odd when people act like influencers owe their subscribers something. The attitude, to use a Mean Girls reference, is sort of "I, like, invented her, you know what I mean?" Yes, subscribers enabled you to have this career, but in return you provide them with free content, so nothing else should be expected of you. If they no longer want to watch the content you're creating, they can devote their time elsewhere, it's really that simple.

Oh ya. The discussion on pricing is so interesting. The same kind of thing happens in the art industry and when I was taking a business class I heard a story of a realtor who became an artist and right from the beginning she charged high prices for her pieces and she got alot of flack for that but really it's about setting an expectation for your brand and about the quality of the product. There was alot of other business mumbo jumbo lessons from this story that I have forgotten lol cuz I took that class like 10 years ago but the point is, is that this realtor knew how this all worked cuz she had done it in real-estate for years before. And she was very successful even tho there was alot of shade about "how dare she charge these prices when I've never heard of her before." But she was supper successful anyways. This kind of this happens in so many different areas of business. So good job girl! Your doing great. You wouldn't have haters if you were doing awesome things.
Love this analogy. And let’s be clear as well that men rarely get as much criticism for these things. People take it for granted that if a man (and more specifically white and cis male) or male-run business is charging high prices it’s worth it, but women are expected to justify it. Anyway I’ll happily buy one or two things from an amazing independent woman-owned (or otherwise underrepresented person-owned) brand rather than a whole bunch of things from big mediocre fast fashion type brands. That goes for makeup, art, or anything else.

i started following you when i was in high school and was presenting as super feminine and wearing full faces of makeup to school every day and now i am a 25 year old non binary transmasc who doesnt wear makeup at all and i still watch like 90% of your videos including the makeup ones because i just like your personality and listening to you talk about whatever stuff while im doing other things is comforting

I've been a follower since the batalash days. I feel like we've just grown up together. We enjoy makeup but our lives have changed so much and listening to someone my age giing through similar things with mental disorders and being a mom is refreshing.

I think you may have forgotten that your subscribers from the early days have also gotten older and become interested in other things. We too have had children, plant obsessions and mental health issues. Makeup isn’t my top priority anymore either. People can grow together or grow apart, I for one have enjoyed growing together!!
