It’s even sadder if he was the veteran of a hundred battles, only to die instantly from a cannonball fired by a tank gunner on his first mission.

war wagons are definitely trash, but Empire isnt really struggling with power creep, they match up quite well vs New World races in both campaign and mp
@@milkandcookiesTW Well, not all war wagons are trash. Black Lions, unless they got nerfed since I last checked, are pretty goddamn badass.
Tbh, Archers and Huntsmen are amazing in campaign (The former are incredibly cost efficient and the latter can be boosted by Huntsman generals giving them range almost on par with HE archers) so i'd say that more than makes up for War Wagons being the meme they are
@@milkandcookiesTW I think the main problem remains that the infantry of the Empire is to weak. With a not to high leadership. The purpuse of infantry is to hold the line so you can deal as much damage as passible with your damage dealing units.
Because you can't hold the line for to long you must deal as much damage as passible in a SHORT time. Mortars are good but to make sure infantry dies really fast you need Helstorm Rocket Battery's. Beside the archers even High elves Phoenix Guard will not survive for long if you have 2 pieces of this most deadly anti infantry artillery. The High Elves will always be stronger than the Empire but not there artillery. Tested it in multy and singleplayer.
@pokezee king-wolf I'm like tactics but sometimes it's also fun to play with a m8 who can hold the line and if you know how you can arty everything with high values, from small to big.

I like how those Archers literally lost 80% of their morale in one volley. Kind of reminds you that on the High Elf base infantry are militia on an isolated island. They probably never even seen a mortar before, much less take a volley from one.

I feel like the one thing that screwed you the most was the death of the Jade wizard. If you still had those heals, I think you could have taken this one, even with the grim reapers that were the Phoenix Guard.

If they could mod Warhammer 2 for Middle Earth stuff, that would be incredible. With the addition of magic and flying troops and individual characters. Would be wild. This is pretty sweet too, but I just finished watched that new Silmarillion era total war mod and its stirred up my interest in Middle Earth again...

I did try a max point, max size game with my brother using nothing but handgunners, Katyushas, and steam tanks vs. a Bretonnian crusade. Not only was it stupid fun, but it was also stupid effective, but still a loss for the ww1 empire build lol
Does anyone know what a good empire counter to this build would look like? I feel like this is a pretty common high elf comp and I almost always end up struggling to get rid of the phoenix guard and/or the dragon. I get that frontline infantry will almost always be basically just a roadblock, but it feels like I can never do enough ranged damage before they get runnover. My strat is slightly different than Indy though. I usually go pistoliers instead of mortars as an extra armour piercing tool to deal with the dragon/halberds and just try and get into their archers with my cav as soon as possible.
Sunmaker, Hellstorm, or Hellblaster volleygun could be very useful for killing the phoenix guard. probably drop the reiksguard, get a 2nd demi halberd, drop the mortars, get an artillery piece aforementioned that can kill armored infantry. but thats only if you know the Phoenix Guard are coming, which you dont. just part of the build roulette. Pretty hard to go wrong with Karl Franz + Deathclaw, but he's overused and I wanted to do something different

we talk a bit, but yeah its mostly concentration until the battle is over
We’ve got some nice banter but once things get going you just hear a lot of clicking and swearing from both sides lol

Question, why didn't Indy target the Phoenix guard with his mortars initially? I feel like although mortars are a hard counter to archers, that's mostly because they are stationary targets that stand behind the main battle line, allowing the inaccurate mortars with their excellent arcs of fire to accrue huge amounts of value without the risk of friendly fire. However, none of that really applies in the opening stages of the battle, when the high elves were advancing. Phoenix guard are by far the most dangerous ground unit in that game, and firing at them would've been much more valuable. Not only would it drop unit models, but could've also removed martial mastery from 1-2 units before they even engage the front line, making the empire state troops last that much longer, and allowing the mortar more time to fire on other value targets, like the archers. You see initially that the first huge volley took down an arcehr unit to 1/2 hp, but only lost 6 models in total, despite being a perfect hit. This means that the archer unit was still at over 90% firing capacity. Unit HP is much more relevant in melee infantry and things that depend on martial mastery. That's just my two cents, however.
Mortarts do badly vs heavy armor. And Phoenix guards are very heavyly armored.

They have bad ap and no magic damage, pheonix guard have 100 armor and 30% phys resist. It could have been the correct play, but with me being able to earthblood them i doubt it tbh, it wouldn’t really kill their models and so they’d just get healed up, I’d have most likely shot the archers with them as well

As hard as those Phoenix Guard blend infantry, why would you ever take Swordmasters with their lower Melee Defense?
cuz they were doing that to Spearmen and other low tier troops. If you're going up against mid or high tier heavy infantry, Swordmasters will do a much better job

hellstorms definitely good here yeah. but battles would get boring pretty fast if people built "optimally" every single time they played. experimenting and trying different strats is half the fun

Kinda feel like the empire should have troll knights or some kind of armored troll warriors. Was reading about ways the empire used trolls and was thinking that some of the more intelligent trolls most likely served in the empires military as a kind of shock troop. I think it would be cool having some monstrous infantry for the empire.
