I recall a small plane crashing not far off the AT along the access road near Shartlesville. Happened in the mid 60s. Pilot was trying to make an emergency landing on the access road but hit trees and crashed. I remember going to the site in the early 70s and the plane engine was still there. Not far off the access road.
So that stone ring could have very well been made where the actual crash site was after the plane was removed, like you said as a memorial. Cliff, I seem to remember you visiting anothet crash site with some other hikers a couple years ago. But that plane was almost intact.
Some day can you take a trip to Kecksberg Pa and show us what the woods look like where the UFO landed. 😮
