Piper Plane N32777 Crashed On July 16 1986 32 year old John Yatso, of Hazelton, had been in Lock Haven for the Piper Plane Reunion. As he returned home, shortly after take off a wind sheer caused his 1975 Piper Cherokee to flip and land upside down in the trees. Yatso was unconscious for a short time. When he came around, he got himself out of the plane and walked two and a half miles before being picked up by a passing car. On Thursday July 17th, Yatsko was reported to be in satisfactory condition, with a slight fracture of his spine and an eye injury. The Hazelton newspaper ran a short blurb just over a month later that he had been discharged from the hospital and was returning home to finish recuperating.
There is 2 other crash sites on that mountain. One in 1985, another GA aircraft. One commercial in 1960, Allegheny Airlines flight 371. Tough airport if the weather is not good.
That was fascinating and so cool they left most of it there. Another poster here said he was unconscious. The wreck is bad enough, I'm just glad it did not burst into flames with him knocked out. The triple 7's were sure lucky that he made it back to tell the story. Nice you had friends along Cliff for more fun.😀😀😀
Cliff another great video. FYI Piper Cub Planes were built in Loch Haven on the east side of town. The airport was there airstrip they used for testing planes. Plant been closed for years but a group of owners and others have a weekend fly in . But not sure since covid 19.
Amazing! Great challenging hike through some rough terrain. And the pilot survived that, wow! What an incredible adventure. I need to put this one on the "list". Great job by your partners too in making it up there. Thanks Cliff, for this video and the background info. This is a great example of the amazing things that can be found out in the woods. 👍👍

I am in the civil air patrol, and we went to a crash like that a long time ago when it happened i forget where it was near top of a mountain, they came upon mountain in clouds pulled up hard and plane flipped. then dropped through trees upside down like that.
Thank you Cliff and Ladies, nice hike. It’s amazing they have helicopters with straps that can pick up tanks? It’s amazing the insurance company didn’t want it for scrap?
Great video and plane wreckage Discovery also the story about what happened to the pilot is incredible that he survived. I think I'm hearing Ravens in the background which is pretty cool
Cliff, I looked up the crash online. IT's almost 40 years now, time really "Flies", and so did that plane for a while. Too bad. Cherokee's were not cheap!., lives, however, are beyond value. I wonder if that fellow kept flying? Cheers, Rik Spector

yeah, great hike and exciting video about the plane. AND WHEN will it warm up? we are in May and it is still chilly. Of course, you might be on high elevation up there. Kind of rough terrain.
i finally made it out there sunday, funny thing is I was planning to go up the day you did this hike, but something came up to keep me from going. Anyways was a good hike till I sprained my ankle on top of mountain. Your rock creation is still up there, I was excited to see it lol I think the arrow thing is one of the old air mail route things, I haven't been able to find it on any of the sites i've checked so far.

He's lucky indeed. Y'all should of just stayed around the lake and up the hill. My bf and I hiked it last yr that was his 3rd, my 1st n I told him about it lol. My photo went viral on fbk recently. Was 12mile hike for us, with the hike. L There's another one near Wilmington airport as well. Little less left of that one.
I also want tonpiint out that the propeller and engine are more than likely on the hillside, based on their weight. Id say it would be easy to believe the engine was ripped from the fuselage, as it would be too heavy to carryndown the mountainside.
that's what I thought it was too. when I was up there sunday and looked at it, it looked liked one. I can't figure out if it's an air mail oe cause it's not showing on the sites i've checked

The boulder field! I climbed it. 1970 something. Have a hotdog at the Texas downtown.

It kind of reminds me of Tionesta Lake, though I know that's further northwest.
