Just trade in my Tucson 2.0 CRDI Elite for the RAV 4 2.5 AWD VX. Both top of the range models in SA. What I miss from the Tucson is the torque of the diesel engin and fuel consumption. What I don't miss about the Tucson is the noise of the diesel engin at low speeds and the smoke that you could see in your mirror on acceleration. The panoramic roof also had a nasty rattle and the six speed automatic gearbox in the 2017 model is not refined. What I love about the Rav 4 is the extra room in the boot when camping and the feeling you get when get in behind the steering wheel. It's soft touch material and in my opinion the person that have designed the gear knob did a great job. For me the Tucson interior felt cheap. The Toyota do feel a bit bigger on the inside as well. The kids enjoy the USB fast chargers at the back of the Toyota which is not equipped in the Tucson. The Toyota 2.5 engin is a bit noisy on hard acceleration, but is quite for normal driving. There are two other aspects that I have taken into consideration when I have decided to change. 1: The service that I get from my local dealers, and 2: The brand with the perceived best retail value. I have battled with the Hyundai dealers from day one and the technical support in our area is pathetic. Around 300 for service Besides you can buy the Demo for around 28K. For the other cars you nearly have to pay 10K extra. What kind of review was that??
It seems like you chose to review at the entry level of Tucson to compare with others. Tucson 2020 has electric seats, Dual Zone , leather seats and so on. If you guys want to buy a car, not just watching them. I recommend it's better to see and test drive by yourself.
I drive a KIA myself but have to admit the RAV 4 is the best all round. Yes it is not that pretty but its quality is the best all round. The KIA'S 7 years warranty got me over the line though.
The rav4 hybrid is the best. That took me time to decide which one to buy (cx5, tuson, sportstage, x-trail,etc.) At the end I select rav4 hybrid and I will recommend without doubt.
Love my rav4 awd hybrid... traded my Tacoma for it and well worth it. Awd hybrid so I can still get on some reasonable trails to camp and have great mileage to get there
Sounds like it’s recent redesign was the winner, not necessarily an even comparison because the others are older designs, and the fuel consumption was more than specified.
I looked at all of these (the New Zealand specs) and ruled out the Hyundai on price, and the RAV4 on looks and the CVT. But while looking at the Sportage, also checked out the Niro hybrid and was surprised that it felt as roomy as the Sportage (cargo room is slightly smaller). So ended up buying the Niro, which has more equipment as standard (smart cruise control, lane keeping etc.) and it's returning 4.5L/100km. Paid NZ$37,000 on road.
Then you should wait just a few more weeks and look at the Kia Seltos, slightly smaller than the Sportage, but really sharp pricing from NZ$26,000 up to the top spec at $39,990 with AWD 1.6T limited with spec to the max! brendanfoot.co.nz/vehicles/kia-seltos/
I prefer manual seat adjustment because it's so much faster! Electric windows and mirrors are brilliant, but most electric seat adjustments are so slooooow, and my wife is so mcuh smaller than I am, it takes forever to adjust an electric seat compared to the almost instant ZIP of a manual adjustment
I chose the Sportage because the conventional smooth auto and 7 year warranty won me over, the new Toyota is currently having jerking issues with its CVT, no surprise, been there, done that and never again.
I love the looks of the Rav4 but I wanted heated and comfortable seats :(. I don’t understand why the passenger seats are never comfortable. I do a lot of riding in the passenger seat but they forget about front passenger seating lumbar support would make a huge difference to the Rav. And still be pocketbook saving under 40k. I agree with this! We want a comfortable ride when driving and riding! I love LOVE my '10 Honda Civic but as a I near another decade of life, my back aches when I have to drive it on long distance trips. I want a small SUV for more comfort, not less!
I purchased the 2020 Kia Sportage. I’m very happy. What he didn’t say is the Kia has 3 driving options (Normal, ECO and sport). Obviously the Eco will have a pull to it because it’s preserving gas. Change to the other 2 options and it flies. He seems bias
As soon as I saw you do this review at the beginning of the video, I knew straight away who’s going to win 😏 So I skipped to the end and not waste anymore time.
It does seem strange that all their reviews of Toyota comes out top. I note that they emphasis their plus points and de-emphasise their negatives compared to other cars they compare them with. Not long ago they did a review of a Prado, claiming it is the best in class. I drive a current model Prado every day as my work vehicle and it is no where near as comfortable, refined in steering, handling and ride comfort on road as my son's 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee despite being no better off road and it drinks more diesel for far less power - yet they claim 'best in class'. I certainly don't trust their biased reviews.

Tuscon is good on looks and comfort and non CVT. Steering is bit heavy. Tiguan is worst, CRV has oil dilution problems, CX5 has less space on back seats
Great review, fair and very detailed. However as clear reference was made to the Rav's CVT I can only presume the other autos were basic torque converters. No mention of DCT. I can look it up though. Would like octane requirements in these videos. No mention of Turbo so guess E10 would suffice.

I test drove these as well. The rav4 was noisey and had lots of body roll. Terrible radio as well. I bought the sportage gt line which is much quieter and nicer to drive, especially on the freeway. Lots of tech and very good build quality.
Got the Tucson on price a few years ago. Model update/refresh romped for 2021 so will take a hard look again then with the RAV4 included, although the CR-V and some news lately about is high speed has and stability possess some questions.
he mentioned for the rav 4 that there are higher trim models that offer more options, but failed to mention it for the Tucson. I'm only 13 minutes in so I'm going to see what he says about the KIA
The RAV4 has lots of body roll and sloppy handling, which is why it failed the moose test! The only reason to buy the RAV4 is for the hybrid version for better fuel economy, but otherwise the Sportage is the clear winner!
Which ever model is shown in red in these comparison videos always wins. Without watching the video I’m going to guess that the rav4 won the contest. The way I see it you get what you pay for. The RAV4 will be more expensive but it is probably more reliable. The other two will be less expensive and the dealerships will probably be more flexible with the price. If price is important then go with one of the Korean brands. If quality is more important than go with the RAV4. Oh and the white vehicle usually receives the worst rating.
The RAV 4 is the newest car here. Little wonder that it won. But the fact that the other two were very competitive means that the RAV 4 may not be as good as thought. A better test will be when the Hyundai/Kia cars are new for 2020
Did not like driving the rav 4 hybrid after driving my 2013 rav4 2 litre petrol. It felt really heavy in the front end and not that smooth in acceleration. Upholstery was ordinary as well. Have to try the new petrol gx or gxl rav4.
The RAV4 wins in a canter, but why buy it before it becomes fitted with Apple Carplay/Android Auto. The Tucson shows why you should skip their cheap model. The Kia is just over priced
I love your reviews. Very succinct and to the point, details clearly explained. However, in this video the safety graphics were unreadable? Otherwise everything else was clear and readable for an older person.
@@DEVILTAZ35 it has a bigger cargo area than sportage and tucson, so yeah, it compares really well... interior quality, sound insulation and driving is far better than all 3. I suggest you test drive them yourself - i did.
So the Kia and Hyundai engines and transmissions are actually different or just tuned a little different? I’m in the states but thought the engines and transmissions are mostly swapped and shared pretty directly between the sister divisions.
i have been watching these videos on various same in class vehicles but they do not drive the same levels of vehicles. they compare the cars that are the cheapest against the most expensive models. you will get more options the more money you have to spend to get all the options. you should take these final opinions as somewhat biased because of this factor.
Mazda CX-5 fully loaded Turbo has lag and then it jumps forward harshly when the throttle finally engages and is slow accelerating compared to how powerful it claims to be, but maybe the one I test drove had regular 87 octane instead of premium 93 octane gas, but even still the ventilated seats were loud and didn't work as well as the much quieter kia ventilated seats and the Mazda Bose audio system is not as good as the Kia Harmon Kardon audio system!
Good review, I have a feeling these cars have all shrunk over the years, especially if you see the size of the 2008-2011 Rav4 compared to what they make today. I for one would like to see all these manufactures make decent size SUV's, Not every family have small kids. What about those that have large dogs you would be hard-pressed to fit a small dashound in the rear of theses SUV's. It seems that today's manufacturers is offering up smaller cars and let's be honest these are small cars.
I still dont get it why all the car reviewer in Australia love RAV 4 so much? I drive Tiguan , CRV, Tuscon, CX-5, Rav4 ,Forester all in the highest spec back to back last weekend because my cousin want to buy mid size SUV because my family just buy CX-5 GT. Even we chose CX-5 I ask him to drive all of them personally, since whatever suit my family might not suit his, it practically just 2 horse contest it between Tiguan Highline R-Line vs CX5 Akera Turbo, other than Hybrid System nothing in RAV4 is stand out, except how noisy it is inside especially once the engine start which it does alot. as I suspect He choose Tiguan because it just have everything, I would choose Tiguan to if money is not a concern.
i have a new model kia rio hatchback and im a little bias i love kias styling and want an suv so because of the styling and kias reliability i want a used late model kia sportage , althou im a little intrigued about the hyundai tucson .....
I get the impression that this bloke is being paid very well from Toyota said everything great about the Toyota seems to basically cover the other models
No doubt, RAV4 got all the bells and whistles and also nails it with it's new look, but has a long waiting list to get your hands on. In that case can Sportage be the pick off the list? How about a comparison between Sportage and Qasqai, features and value for money?
Why not mention RAV was noted as the most dangerous small SUV for likelihood of roll over when corning due to it's high profile. Seem somewhat biased review if you ask me.
@Tony Rock yes that is correct. The 2.0L is equipped with either CVT or manual transmission. In SA the 2.5L is only available with an 8 speed auto transmission.
Idk about price for kia in Aus but in nz its way cheaper and better imo then rav4. Rav4 is way too expensive its like 35k to 70k like who gonna pay for that.
4:54 Says the Kia had the superior suspension dealing with ripples and rough surfaces then goes on to say the Toyota is the winner in this segment... 🙄 I've driven all 3, The Toyota feels disconnected and false on the road and The Kia definitely feels the most comfortable... Why the automatic 'love' for the Toyota... Is this seriously an Aussie thing..?
@@carsguide the comment was very tongue in cheek. No disrespect but some criticisms were, lets say scraping the bottom of the barrel. No doubt the Toyota is a good thing, but you have to admit Toyota has been a bit like Nokia in the early 200's. They have been dragged kicking and screaming into not giving us vehicles which your endangered at falling asleep at the wheel from complete boredom. The RAV4 has lots of body roll and sloppy handling, which is why it failed the moose test! The only reason to buy the RAV4 is for the hybrid version for better fuel economy, but otherwise the Sportage is the clear winner!
crappy moose test
I want the RAV4 but my wallet says KIA
And tucson?
better value for money kia
Rav4 is most impressive and looking beautiful
A better test will be when the Hyundai/Kia cars are new for 2020
Correct. New Tucson coming next year. 👍
I just purchased a KIA Sorento LX V6. My wife thinks it's faster than the Lexus RX350 she tried. We hate underpowered vehicles.
Kia is overpriced? This segment may be out of your reach.
I love your reviews. Very succinct and to the point, details clearly explained. However, in this video the safety graphics were unreadable? Otherwise everything else was clear and readable for an older person.
Thanks for the feedback. We'll make it a bit simpler next time around.
Matt
Everyone are saying that CX5 is the winner, so you decided not to compare it here?!
how does that work
It has a much smaller cargo area so it doesn't really compare. Also with all the issues with Mazda lately who would be stupid enough to buy one.
@@DEVILTAZ35 it has a bigger cargo area than sportage and tucson, so yeah, it compares really well... interior quality, sound insulation and driving is far better than all 3. I suggest you test drive them yourself - i did.
N not acknowledging all of mazda’s recall issues? Over 35000 mazda vehicles have been recalled. I wouldn’t trust their reliability
@@jessef9190 there isn't a single brand that didn't do recalls (yeah thats plural), so i guess you should ride a bike then ...or make a car yourself.
what abut kia seltos
So the Kia and Hyundai engines and transmissions are actually different or just tuned a little different? I’m in the states but thought the engines and transmissions are mostly swapped and shared pretty directly between the sister divisions.
thinking of trading in my 2017 Camry for a rav 4 hybrid
I’ve seen more Kia Sportage’s on the road than RAV4’s here in the states.
RAV 4 style perfectly n looking powerful than than previous models
I think they got paid by toyota when the Tuscan is better deal
i have been watching these videos on various same in class vehicles but they do not drive the same levels of vehicles. they compare the cars that are the cheapest against the most expensive models. you will get more options the more money you have to spend to get all the options. you should take these final opinions as somewhat biased because of this factor.
What city is that ??? Looks beautiful....
Tucson is best in these! Your review doesn’t matter to me!
that kia its not facelift , so its not 2020
kia has Wireless charger
bro, wtf
It's a MY2020 model.
@@carsguide it comes with wireless charger in europe and the blind spot sensors when moving to other lanes
Bullshit. And the mazda has more power and torque than both the kia and the Hyundai. Also the mazda doesn't have fake exhaust like the kia.
Suppose Toyota gave much money to say all that and to make rav4 the winner....
I am going to vote Tucson. It has every things which Rav 4 has. But this is right Rav 4 gives you more mileages. 😊
Gavin XTc40 pubs a full size? Lol
Hi Carsguide i would buy the Tucson because it's got more power than the sportage if the sportage had more power i would buy the sportage in the 2 l
Get the diesel.
you should take the diesel ver of tucson
"Love" is a strong word mate.
Matt
Excellent review. No waffle, straight to the point.
i have a new model kia rio hatchback and im a little bias i love kias styling and want an suv so because of the styling and kias reliability i want a used late model kia sportage , althou im a little intrigued about the hyundai tucson .....
So all cars don't come with full size spare wheel now a days?
Kia Sportage doesn't have blind spot monitoring and rear cross walk alert, you said..
You must be a Toyota fanboy..
RAV4 is handsome but CVT is a disaster, sad to mention!
I get the impression that this bloke is being paid very well from Toyota said everything great about the Toyota seems to basically cover the other models
Kia sportage is first SUV in the world
Why don't you compare the same standard, this is not a good comparison.
A co-worker had a Tuscon 2-3 years ago. I think that she would have set it on fire and pushed it off a cliff if she could.
You don't play with the screen while driving.
But it wasn't when it was tested by safety standards, and I'm not sure anyone is actually driving their CUV that fast at a turn, lmaoo
Kia SUV 👍👍👍👍👍
Kia Sportage at top🎉🎉
The Rav4 has 8 speed transmission not cvt.
Only the 2.5L is equipped with an 8 speed auto transmission. The 2.0L is equipped with a CVT transmission.
@@riaanbotha2366 The 2.0 l fuel injection comes either in cvt or 6 speed transmission.
@Tony Rock yes that is correct. The 2.0L is equipped with either CVT or manual transmission. In SA the 2.5L is only available with an 8 speed auto transmission.
@@tonyrock5313 Not where I live, they are all cvt except the top of the range 2.5 has a 8 speed old school auto, with issues.
@@geraldeaton9722 then get the 2.5L.
If you put Toyota to the same trim level with the other two, then Kia and Hyundai will be tied at the first place..
Are you toyota sales ?
Why did you skip the Active X with Smart Sense package?
Idk about price for kia in Aus but in nz its way cheaper and better imo then rav4. Rav4 is way too expensive its like 35k to 70k like who gonna pay for that.
Was this a review or a Toyota presentation?
A comparison test, actually.
Cheers
Matt
4:54 Says the Kia had the superior suspension dealing with ripples and rough surfaces then goes on to say the Toyota is the winner in this segment... 🙄
I've driven all 3,
The Toyota feels disconnected and false on the road and
The Kia definitely feels the most comfortable...
Slowly but surely Hyundai/Kia have certainly made them take some notice. Not that I'd buy any of these, but if pushed, Kia warranty not only shows confidence in their product but is the leader in this respect. Customer support from Hyundai/Kia is a better proposition then Toyota, they certainly aren't forthright in admitting fault.
This man is paid for rav4
Don’t get me in or label me for being super critical. But 30 seconds in and you are comparing one Toyota and the Kia and Hyundai (which I sensually the same model building same factory with very minor differences)… Do you think we are idiots…? And that’s all I watched of your video
