    That shock probably came with the LL tune, which is literally the opposite of what you want as a heavy rider on an ebike. In general as a heavy rider you want a progressive rebound tune (meaning rebound damping increases on bigger hits) and a medium or heavy compression tune unless your rear linkage is super progressive (i.e. Rocky Mountain Altitude), Specialized usually have very linear rear linkage on the Stumpys (and I assume the Kenevos are similar as they use the same clevis based FSR as the Stumpy Evo) and the Enduro is about average on progressivity.

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Kenevo in video is a Enduro in almost every way, but your right. My friends Levo with cascade link was like a different world for the shock. Cascade link brings the prepgresison to 35%.

  • @otisjordan5613
    @otisjordan5613 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Sounds like you should get the shock tuned for the frame, rockshox ships their shocks with LL tunes, meaning basically 0 compression shim and 0 rebound shim.
    It would massively improve if you got it tuned correctly, as you would have more freedom in clickers because you wouldnt be on the last click and you should be able to run less airpressure.
    Made the mistake of using off the shelve tunes for suspension once, never again.

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am aware of tuned shocks. The Float X specialized tune is amazing, compared to off the shelf Trek fuel float X is a brick. Not sure about Rockshox specific tune though

      @@OtterMTBtech RS has 3 compression tunes and 2 rebound tunes available. They have light/medium/heavy compression tunes and linear/progressive rebound tunes. Most off the shelf RS shocks are light compression/linear rebound or LL. I suspect a Heavy Compression/Progressive rebound tune would play best with the Levo and a heavy rider. This assumes the clevis driven FSR back end of the Kenevo is just as linear as the back end of the Stumpy Evo it's based on.

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Kenevo is is same as the Enduro middle of the road 25%. The Vivid rides best on the air spring, the Compression tune not as big of deal. The bigger compression tune probably has slower rebound would make it ride better. Interestingly I traded my friend the Vivid, and on his Levo with cascade link and the shock settings were much different. 35% progressive with the cascade link Levo @@mrvwbug4423

    Nice vid, somewhat informative and pretty entertaining. If the new vivid was home serviceable it would be a no brainer to get it, but it seems like they put in a gazillion parts in it and requires a bunch of special tools unlike most other RS products. Too bad.

    That lockout doesnt seem right. From all the reviews Ive read, the lockout should be VERY firm. The shock should bairly move with the lockout engaged. On my 2023 superdelux ultimate (the newest model that uses the same damper as the vivid) when you lock it out, the shock WILL NOT move and the bike feels like a hardtail.

    Heya there, how much do you weigh? I'm a clyde at around 280, I have the Float X at 330psi to get ~30% sag, wondering how this would fare. Also how does the diameter of the air can compare to that of the X2? Thank you

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on your shock size. What bike? My shock is 230x65 (pretty massive) I had to almost max the air pressure out 330psi and I am 220ish. The shock likes to ride high in travel 25% becase there is only small amount of compression adjustment. The “hydrolic bottom” is pretty rad for the big boys.
      I’ll dig into her but more ride it with max volume spacers to see if I can pressure down.
      The vivid is larger than the X2 the x2 doesn’t scrap my frame.

      Every shock hits the frame unless it’s narrow body. File the frame down. If you ride really hard or are heavy the shock will then flex with the yoke even more into the frame. Bike needs a coil.

    In my experience with fox and rockshox as a mechanic over the years, I find that when properly set up and tuned, Fox is ALWAYS better. The only time I would ever recommend rockshox is to somebody who does not care at all about peak suspension performance. If you are somebody with any amount of mechanical knowledge, it is much more worthwhile to get fox instead. Rockshox is 100% easier to set up out of the box, and there is no denying that. However, it will always feel dead compared to even the lowest end of fox shocks or forks. Pike ultimate with butter cups (and lawsuit valves) when professionally set up will still be inferior in ride quality and tunability to a 5 year old never serviced rythm fork. Sram should stick to what they do best, which is drivetrains. Just as shimano should stick with fishing lines and bad customer service.

    • @noahscrofani3105
      @noahscrofani3105 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This might be one of the most incorrect statements ive heard in awhile.
      Fox had a step above Rockshox until they released charger 3, which tops fox at this point imo, Sram dosent make anything good except for the new T-Type stuff, and shimano makes the best drivetrains and some of the best breaks.
      Your entire view of bike brands is an unpopular opinion lol.

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Charger 3 may be a good damper, but I wouldn’t know since the Zeb is so progressive I had to run the damper wide open on a 60 lb ebike with a 230 lb rider.

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      C1 I believe. Only 1 I could get. You are very correct my friend. The base tune can make or break a shock. Specialized tuned shocks are next level compared to off the shelf equivalent.
      There was 2 options for the 230x65. The Commencal meta Power and c1. For sure the Commencal tune would have had a heavier compression tune, but to be real if you want compression just go Fox
