I’m going through the struggle of a damaged skin barrier I feel soo ugly my skin is soo red , sore , dry , cracked and it feels like my skin is burning and even cold water stings when it comes into contact with my skin it’s located on both of my cheeks and chin since I rubbed my face to harshly in the shower ( over exfoliation ) I will never wash my face the same again I have learned my lesson and thanks to this video for helping me have the confidence of stepping out into public and ignoring all the pointing thanks 😃
Sun in winter. I'll tell you a story: I once lived in Norway for several months, starting on june. Summer in Norway is pretty chilly, not cold but definitely not hot (coming from Spain, 14º celsius is NOT hot). I got a mild burnt once, the sky was super cloudy and again: not hot at all. It felt like when I go to the beach and I burn a little (the skin is itchy, but not even pink or red). People, use sunscreen!! 👌
I got sunburns on my face all the time in the winter as a child when I'd go outside and play in the snow! My mom tried so hard to keep sunscreen on me, but since I was rolling around in the snow or getting hit by snowballs when my friends were around, it never stayed on long enough.
Same situation for me this spring in Finland, around May. I was shocked when I realized that I got sunburnt, exactly in the same way that you described. It happened after just a couple of days of taking a walk to work (15 minutes, so half an hour for both days). I started using sunscreen right after that.
I love that you can comment on videos before they premiere lol. Do I just blow up the comment section for the next 17 minutes until the video goes live???? The world is my oyster. Love you Cassandra!!
Ugh, I damaged my skin barrier last week. I’m still babying my skin to heal. Idk why I did this, but I used The Ordinary’s peel for their recommended 10 minutes instead of the 5 that I usually do. The 5 min was working just fine. Ruined my little bathroom spa night haha
I was using a lot of products (based on my research to different skincare routines that match my skin condition) for my hyperpigmentation. After more than a month of religiously applying those products, I realized my hyperpigmentation got worse. I stopped using everything for a week, and surprisingly, my skin is getting better. I wondered why and what was wrong with my routine, until I watched your video. Thanks for this ❤️ I am now convinced, I don't need other products, just proper hygiene and sunscreen. ❤️
Could you tell me what were you using? I'm using the alpha arbutin and I though it was not agressive but now I'm not so sure! Also, how is your hyperpigmentation doing with just sunscreen?
When my skin barrier was damaged, I did slugging with eucerin aquaphor, stopped exfoliating for 2 or 3 weeks, and got gentler products. Now my skin is soooooo much better
I am 74 and I had a damaged skin barrier for the first time recently. I was using all sorts of products that I was seeing on youtube plus I started using tretinoin. Talk about scaly! So I cut back on eveything and used La-roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 with petroleum jelly occusion. It is the only thing that did not burn my skin and I tried tons of products! I still have very sensitive skin from that episode-I can only use oily type cleansers and still can only tolerate the Cicaplast for a moisturizer. After my skin healed completely I went back to using the tretinoin and still cannot tolerate it even at a .02% every other day. I can only tolerate it about 2 times a week. I have to be really careful with what I use on my face now!
Hi there! I’m currently dealing with a damaged skin barrier and using the cicaplast balm with Vaseline. How long did it take to heal your skin? I’m so worried maybe something else is going on or that it won’t heal.
Honestly, when i’ve been a bit too enthusiastic with my tretinoin or exfoliant, or if my eczema on my hands decides to chunk a tanty, i just stop using everything and just use plain water to clean and vaseline straight on top. It’s usually all good in 48 hours 🤷🏻♀️
I hated to see the one article list Dove Body Wash as “tried and true”. They changed the formula sometime in the last year or two , making it sulfate free but adding Cocomidopropyl Betaine. Cocomidopropyl Betaine is a known to cause a reaction to those with sensitive skin, and is guaranteed to give me a raised, itchy rash of irritated skin. So, don’t blindly trust products. As Cassandra says, always “turn & learn”. And I’ve learned to check so I caught the change they made before bringing home a bottle of itch irritation.
Wow, I’ve been using Dove body wash for years and have noticed that my skin has had a reaction over the last few months. I thought maybe it was a perfume from the body wash, but the new ingredient setting off irritation makes a lot more sense. Thanks for sharing that!!
Thanks for posting. All of a sudden I've been getting break outs on my body and couldn't figure out why. I'll hsve to switch and see if that helps. I've been using thr dove sensitive body wash for almost 10 years.
Finding this Channel and finally taking skincare into my own Hands and understanding what my skin needs and wants together with clearing all my skin Problems made my 2021, thank you
Exfoliation nation! I have been on a year long journey to improve my skin and cannot say thank you enough for all the great info you provide! I’m 31 and have sensitive normal/combo skin with adult acne and occasional eczema. I had tried retinol products in the past and quit because of redness/itching/flaking because I didn’t know there was an adjustment period, and I was trying to use it in the same routine with SA cleansers and toner🤦♀️. Early this year I went back to basics and focused on improving my barrier, then started differin one night a week. I’m now up to about 3 nights a week. I just had an acne flare up, but I’m pretty sure it was the increased turn over bringing some of those deeper blemishes to the surface, sine I’m not peeling and I barely have any bumps (under the skin pimples) left! The folds around my nostrils are a hotspot for blackheads and I’ve over exfoliated there before… it feels exactly like a bad sunburn that’s peeling!
Oh my goodness Cassandra!! Wow, I had to stop the video and get myself together for a bit…. My goodness queen, I’m so so happy you have over come this and helping everyone in the best way you can! I might not always agree with you but you are such an amazing human being and I love you for that! My heart to you :) Personally I’m surprised my skin was never damaged… I had a rough childhood growing up… goodness…. I hope others can also find the help on your videos to get the courage to see a derm. LOVE you Cassandra!!!
The idea of somewhat “recreating” the natural sebum and moisture and amino acids (etc) that compose the natural skin barrier by using skincare products- huge lightbulb moment-now I actually know as a concept what the goal is. I was missing that idea for the overall concept and trying to understand like order of operations with different products and to figure out which products to use but now that I am not missing the BIG IDEA, I can add those key components to my skintellegence journey (but right now I’m rocking an angry pimple and life goes on!! Btw I’ve only RARELY worn makeup in my life bc I never have had long-term control over my acne and I’ve been to the derm for rosacea which fortunately has not been an issue for many years due to lifestyle changes, but I never understood what the HELL I was supposed to be aiming for with a routine. 🤯 💡 In the past I’ve always just been over it and just dealt with insecurity about adult acne bc I didn’t understand and every time I tried to learn it didn’t stick bc everyone said something different and I would find that honestly just using bar soap in the shower or at the sink **seemed** to keep my biome healthiest -but only in the summer with the humidity of the south and then I have always been dry in the winter, and of course the sweat in the summer whenever I couldn’t splash water in it soon enough (another personal trick I have developed not knowing wth I’m doing, was just to wash with water multiple times a day during the summer to avoid blackheads from dirt and stuff bc I’m always doing things all the way, and so outdoor activities tend to get dirt on me and my clothes and shoes, well, I dont have a washing machine for my face to do that for me so I have just been so incompetent my whole life because I grew up as a Tom girl and never cared about that nor was exposed to skincare bc I never wore makeup and NOW I KNOW SKINCARE IS OUTSIDE OF MAKEUP. I honestly just didn’t know ANY better until these videos of yours. Now I know *Skincare* really is just hygiene and therefore self-care, and I’m in my thirties and I’m ready to love my skin through some skincare habits now!! And I’m going to try some of the products that you have specifically recommended for adult acne and I’m also going to gift some to my mom for Christmas as it is def something she also deals with, and also even with her going to the dermatologist more consistently, I still feel like would benefit from understanding more conceptual stuff, just bc I’ve been with her when she goes to ulta and she buys random products and sees what works, along her with cerave, etc, (and sunscreen of course) - like I’ve known some things to do but this just helped me understand a WHOLE LOT MORE and I finally have an OVERALL CONCEPT OF THE ACTUAL GOAL. Thank you!!!! Thank you!!
Best thing is to have a humidifier going at all times! I have xerosis and eczema and find this helps. That said, I live in Southern Australia so while we have a dry climate, it doesn't really get below sub-zero much!
I did that, I also went too far and got the weird waxy skin with a mix of dry and wounded patches, thin papery texture, itchy red and extremely painful face, and I still had my cystic acne made all the worse by this... I freaked out, and I flunked school that year because I literally could not / would not leave the house like that. I did not have any online resources at the time, so... not knowing what to do, I just stopped doing everything, hoping my face would fix itself. I could only wash my face with lukewarm water and dried it by gently by dabbing a paper tissue. I also tried to help my body by drinking more water, eating more fruit and taking a probiotic (homemade Kefir). It took a while but my skin bounced back, our bodies are pretty amazing. I am a lot more careful with my skin now! I cringe when I watch people's skincare routines and they say they like that "squeaky clean" feeling, Honestly I don't know how that is sustainable for their skin over time, but hey maybe they apply really good products next or have crazy good genes...
I would have never recognized, if it weren’t for those clips. Stumbled across this video (I messed up my skin barrier) I remember watching that video from the clips years ago. & now I’m back again.
I definitely did damage the first time I tried using retinol...I stopped and waited a year until I researched more and my skin was ready to try again. We're on week 4 of retinol-redo and it's going much better!
I did the same thing recently! I learned the hard way after forgetting I was using retinol and went and got an eyebrow wax..goodbye skin under my brow😅🤦🏼♀️ I’ll try Retinol another time lol.
I love your channel ❤. I've learned so much about skincare, and managed to understand my skin more since I've discovered your channel. I've learned from you that I have combination/sensitive acne prone skin and dehydrated (my acne si mostly cleared out now after 10 years, and was as bad as yours was). I used to believe that if I have acne skin, is also oily. Boy, I was wrong! Also because of you I've transformed my skin care in a everyday ritual, which helps me relax a lot. Whenever night comes, I literally enjoy taking care of my skin. I'm not wearing makeup everyday anyone, but even when I do ,I'm more excited taking it off, and clean my skin and hydrating it 💖
Oh Cassandra, I have been with you watching you on my TV youtube . Great yes, however i couldn't interact with you. I quit my TV connection last week, OY!, and slowly, very slowly adapting. SO, I am a 67 year-old woman and I find you so relevant! Last week I got 'over involved' with my skin over a very short period of time. I guess my skin looked very shiny, not in a good way. I will say my inflamed skin eased the look of some of those wrinkles. Not worth it! I have MS and had a bad couple of days this week. It was the fatigue of MS and because I could barely lift my arms, I did nothing with my face. No washing,no water, nada! It was exactly what my skin needed! Who knew being a stinky mess could have such a positive result?
I use retinol so I can't skip sunscreen and haven't since I turned 19 it made my skin look and stay youthful and now I am 29 and I really wanna find a face scrub (will be forever my favorite exfoliating method) that will make my skin soft without overdrying my face
You look amazing in all your curly awesomeness! Thanks for this reminder that it is time to up my barrier game. For me, with an alchemist’s stash of products, my lifesaver is VASELINE! I avoided it like it was pure poison. You changed my mind and my life! Best eye cream ever lol! A few times a week, I mix in a bit of my retin a, and my eyelids have never been so soft, so hydrated! Thank you! 🤍☁️👀☁️🤍🦢☁️👀🤍
I ruined my skin barrier in the past. I don't use cleansers anymore. Just cold water. And spf, moisturizer and niacinamide on top every now and then. Cutting off cleanser saved me honestly.
Going through this right now as I watch this 😂 probably over exfoliated washing my face and using a retinol, and I always get this dry rash my face at the exact same spot during the winter 😂💀 this is a sign telling me to chill for a week haha
I love your videos. When I went to a dermatologist he prescribed me differin with benzoylperoxid and I used it every night without patch testing. My skin got so flaky and even water hurt so much that I was just about to give up . Now I use only benzoylperoxid with a mosturizer and sunscreen in the morning and a new prescription in the afternoon. I’m 18 nearly 19by now and I hate that my acne makes me insecure and feel like I’m not worth it 😞
I'm in a similar situation, only that I tried to get a skincare routine going, but ended up drying out my skin and one product gave me an allergic reaction on top of it, and the moisturizer isn't helping to fix this much. Now, water irritates it. After going to the derm, she was more concerned about the acne, and gave me stuff with benzo peroxide and salicylic acid, which is great, but I would have loved a working moisturizer before I use drying ingredients. I've been having acne since I was like 13 (I'm 24 now), and it has gotten worse. I'm a model, so I can firmly say that acne doesn't make you unattractive. I'm sorry that acne is making you feel bad. :( Hopefully the treatment is able to get it under control.
I live in Northern California where we have a humidity that my skin is used to. I went down to so cal and the desert for thanksgiving where the humidity was 10%. My skin was so dry. I doubled up on the hydrators, moisturizers, and sunscreens.
Panthenol ....cream...helps damaged skin heal faster. Chloramphenicol (eye antibacterial cream, yes use for face skin or any damaged skin) Speaking from exp.
Can you please show your skin rutine. My biggest problem is how much of a product (serum, hydrating cream, rich cream) to apply, especially on the morning
I use the Great barrier relief on a regular basis, and it’s just The best! I wear it as a serum on my retinal nights, and I never experienced irritation.
This came at a great time, for the first time in my life the winter chill made my skin more than just ashy. I got nummular eczema and I’ve never had eczema so it’s been a change having to apply medicine and not scratching even though my skins on fire. Thankfully I only have 2 patches and the 1st and biggest is healing nicely, the 2nd is newer and far smaller hasn’t shown any progress, but it’s not as bad as the 1st one was when it was at its worst so if I keep applying medicine and Vaseline( it works great to lock the moisture ) I’ll be eczema free by Christmas.
I have damaged skin on my upper lip from shaving (My hair is black) and I've been trying everything I can to heal it and nothing is working. I use cerave night cream constantly and vaseline on top. This combo works the best of anything else I've tried but my upper lip is still red. I have to use concealer any time I go out. I don't want to have to do that. I guess I'll just stop shaving my face and wear a mask in front of people.
I have normal non-sensitive skin and get pimples around my period like a week before and during it however goes away after a couple of days to a week. -I use a basic cleanser at night sometimes in the morning too(in the summer bc I sweat) -Paula's choice BHA exfoliant -the ordinary vitamin C serum -hyaluronic acid from the ordinary -cerave moisturizer - the ordinary retinol (night) -sunscreen -AHA BHA Peeling mask from the ordinary once a week -oil cleanser when I wear makeup (once every two months) But my cheeks are always rosy along the cheekbones and my nose is rosy too and I get a few bumps on my forehead every couple of months and have some blackheads too. What should I do bc I have no idea what to use
the red rosy cheeks could be rosacea and/or a broken skin barrier. id really recommend azeliac acid as it fights acne and skin texture with its anti bacterial properties, and works super well even if you dont have rosacea!!
This is obviously not a reason to skip sunscreen, but is there anything we need to know about winter skincare in those parts of the world that get little enough sunlight at winter that medical professionals recommend vit D supplements?
I had an episode of damaged skin barrier few weeks ago. I'm 33 and I suddently looked very old. My skin was super dry, red, bad dark circles... I thought to myself, "wow this is what women mean when they say they got old over night". I thought that it was aging... Actually, it was just that my skin was damaged by applying too many exfoliating products... I applied petroleum cream every night for one week and nothing else. I slept in it.... It did wonders and now I look like I was before :)
You are sooo Beautiful. I actually have dry skin because I decided to use too much deferin gel. lol. But I will use some moisturizer today and in a few days it will be back to normal. 😁🤗
How do you moisturize without feeding fungal infections on your skin? My skin is dry and is burning. I live in Switzerland where the air is cold and dry.
So I swim. It's how I stay in shape and it's non negotiable. This year, however, I think the chlorine combined with a dry winter ruined my skin barrier. How can I protect my skin while in the pool so it can repair itself? I really don't want to give up swimming even for a day; it's too positive an influence on my physical and mental health to remove it from routine for my skin.
I was just thinking about this exact thing after swimming at the pool the other day. The only thing I can think of would be applying vaseline to create a barrier before you swim!
My skin is suffering at the moment, I think from the cold outside, being in a heated house and from over exfoliation in certain areas - I had a bad cold and constantly blowing my nose made it dry out and flake... I am taking a little rest from my retinol while it heals and have jusr bought some richer face cream from la roche posay (the toleriane range), and some rosehip oil and ceramide night treatment from the inkey list. Hopefully this will do the trick and I can get back to the retinol next year sometime.
This was SO helpful! Do you think that the same products to support healing of a damaged skin barrier would help chronically dry/flaky skin? My nose and chin flake and makes is super hard for makeup to look decent. I want to scrub it off with sandpaper (joking!) but maybe there is a better way?
Hi there, don't use physical exfoliants whatever you do! Apply a lipid rich barrier cream to those areas until they are healed and then you can try layering a humectant like glycerin with an emollient rich cream. Have you tried using a tinted moisturiser in lieu of other makeup? Have you watched Cassandra's Winter Moisturisers video?
Bruh that's mostly seborrheic dermatitis. Check your vitamin D levels. You must very low. Increase your vitamin D level. Get some sunlight on daily basis also. Stay hydrated. Get enough exercise. Focus on increasing vitamin D levels, that's most important here. You are welcome 😉
Cassandra, you often mention that products containing for example Vitamin C can clear up dark spots and "brighten" the skin - if I use such a product, will it brighten my freckles? I would be mad if it did!
Having a humidifier going at home helps my skin a lot. It’s not snowing where I live either, surprisingly, but it is cold and dry. It’s worth a try if you don’t already have one
I just did this I got a hyperpigmentation set in the sale from face theory. So they are actives in every step of my routine suddenly and a double dose of retinoids in the cream and in a treatment I use. I tried all three at once and broke the rule of one at a time. So I've started get painful spots so I'm going back to my original routine and adding one thing to see what's doing it. First I'm going to give my skin a break from treatment actives..I feel quite itchy on my neck too before I changed anything. Deffo over exfoliated. They pop ha's, aha and bha's in alot of products I find so knowing the ingredients is important to me.
Wind burn is no joke either. Living in the Midwest we get major winds on occasion (tomorrow will be 50mph+)and if you have to be outside for a bit your face can become super painful.
Question for the beautiful butterflies 🦋: can Retin A left on hands from application cause a rash? I have been using a prescription of Retin and applying it as directed. I wash my hands after application, however over the last couple of days I noticed a a few bumps on the top of my hands like a small allergic reaction. I have no known allergies and have no idea what it could be. It then dawned on me that it could be Retin A left on my hands. Since it’s winter I am only applying sunscreen on my face, neck, and ears, not my body including hands. Has anyone ever experienced this with prescription vitamin A?
Could you wear gloves when you apply the Retin A to see if that solves the problem? Not caused by Retin A but two years ago I developed small bumps on the back of my hands. They didn't go away so I saw a dermatologist. Turns out that I developed eczema on my hands from chronic dryness due to frequent handwashing and sanitizer. Might be worth a trip to a dermatologist if you can. They prescribed topical steroids which is the only thing that works when my hands have a flare. I work really hard to prevent flares now.
@@sarahgay4434 I did recently move to a much colder and drier part of Canada. My skin has been a bit confused with this recent change. I am still looking for a family doctor but non the less I should Probably get it checked. I’ll try wearing gloves next time I apply my Retin A. Thanks for the tip!
i’m finally accepting the fact that my skin is only at peace when i keep to 2-3 products. i realized the “glow” i was looking from exfoliating can actually be achieved if i stop exfoliating and overwashing… i don’t understand how but it just is. screw you st ives.
I damaged my skin with a Foreo a few years ago. It was horrible and painful. I don't know how they continue to recommend that kind of facial brushes, they don't bring anything good.
I hope this isn't a dumb question, but can a severely broken skin barrier mimick eczema/rosacea? Because my old derm diagnosed me with both when I was overexfoliating. I also didn't know I was overexfoliating, because the exfoliation ingredients were hidden in skincare I would have never thought of. I went to a new derm who set me on a mild regime and only recommended two acids for my acne (I only use them twice a week), that eczema/rosacea-like texture went away and so far never returned. This derm thinks that I did NOT actually have these skin conditions but that overexfoliation and overcaring for my skin may have led to the texture I had. She thinks that a case of perioral dermatitis which had spread to my eyes is far more likely ...
Hi Cassandra. The only exfoliant i use is lactic acid 5% by T.O and i use it only once every 2 weeks. Is it too much or not enough? And should i be worried if it makes my skin flake in one specific spot? It doesnt itch or hurt but it flakes visibly and usually i just put on some more serum or moisturizer when i notice it.
I think I have hyperpigmentation in the beard area due to shaving with a razor but I'm not a professional but I'm most certain its cuz of that and not being good with sunscreen cuz I tend to buy mineral sunscreen that makes me transform into Casper.
Would this be a good skincare routine in your opinion? I've done my own research and i think it should be fine and work great, but i just want to make sure nothing will clash before i start using it! every morning ill use the ordinary SPF 30, the ordinary vitamin c suspension 23%, the ordinary natural moisturizing factors. Every night ill use the Cera-ve hydrating cleanser, the ordinary Hyaluronic acid, and the ordinary natural moisturizing factors. Then 3x a week ill-use peace out's salicylic acid acne serum, then 3x a week ill use the ordinary retinol 0.2% in squalane (different days than the acid treatment) then once a week ill use the ordinary salicylic acid masque. I also dermoplane once a week to exfoliate :) My main concerns are dryness, acne, blackheads, and wrinkles and my skin type is mainly dry but i have some oily areas on my forehead.
Can you make a video about body sunscreens that aren't oily I use Neutrogena oil free for acne skin not that I have acne but it works even as a face primer 😂 and can reapply as needed and all thanks to you because it was you that recommended that sunscreen 🧴 and before that I used shiseido oil free but it is very expensive and couldn't afford it anymore but I would never switch back to it because I love this drugstore sunscreen and the glossy finish it gives without feeling greasy and gross
I use 2% BHA Cleanser then PHA Toner and then Azelaic Acid two times a day. I have combo skin and very acne prone. Is this considered over-exfoliation?
The skin on my hands has a destroyed barrier every yr from November till end of April they are sore cracked bleeding and hurt like f**k because of hand washing a hundred times per day
Ok then. I have skin barrier problem then. I always dislike the idea of physical exfoliator, it's like scratching my skin, painfully. I dislike the idea of multiple layer of products. Most of the time even the basic 2 to 3 steps are already very overwhelming for me. Plus I always got dyshidrotic eczema, prickly heat rash, contact dermatitis (I'm allergic to plastic! I think that's why I couldn't really tolerate with petrolatum-based product such as Vaseline, I'll grow super big pimples like in hours even in the thinnest layer LOL) and idiopathic urticaria before... And I can see more and more fine reddish blood vessels on my cheeks, turning even much more prominent and obvious. I got dry skin at some skin area, big pores, pitted acne scars, etc. Always feel some dry stretchy sensation. P.S. I even got dairy sensitivity (causing tonnes of phlegm in just 15 minutes, severe constipation and the 'adverse effect' last for like a whole day) and sensitive teeth and also cold sensitivity LMAO
Suffering from Neurodermitis, I totally know the feeling. Other people take a shower and after 30min their barrier restores itself. Mine needs 2 days. Yup. My problems are really minor now, but my skin is a bitch and needs an excessive amount of extra care, creams... And less whole body showers especially with soap. I don't stink btw 😂 but only the important parts are treated with soap. I am using the mildest face wash available and my nighttime routine takes about 20min only for the essentials.
I remember when I was using face wash that sting my skin and then I've put my face prescription cream for acne, awww it burned my skin off. Literally, it was horror
Does having thin skin equate to having a damaged skin barrier? I'm taking certain medication that makes my skin thin and extremely dry. Not sure what I can do to improve my skin's condition.
My lips look like that after a few hours/ minutes without lip balm and start to peel around the corners of my mouth after a few days without putting on my prescription “lip balm/ treatment” I’m just constantly wondering if this has a name or rather what the name of this condition is since I have had it my entire life and no one knows what it is or if it has a name
Hey Girl, just wanted to quickly ask about the Oils you mentioned. During my reasearch on how to repair my skin barrier and battle my redness i discovered Kukui Nut (Seed) Oil and it has helped me so much! Now i was just curious as of why this one was not on the list you showed in your video. Is it because the other oils are/work better for your skin or is it only because Kukui Nut oil is a little less known than the others? Love your videos and many of them have been helpful on my skinjourney so far. Keep up the good work. Lots of Love from Germany, Sarah
Damaging your skin barrier is the absolute worst! Wishing everyone clear and healed skin! 😍🙌🏻
is it possible it won't repair itself?
AMEN
Did your skin barrier heal
I’m going through the struggle of a damaged skin barrier I feel soo ugly my skin is soo red , sore , dry , cracked and it feels like my skin is burning and even cold water stings when it comes into contact with my skin it’s located on both of my cheeks and chin since I rubbed my face to harshly in the shower ( over exfoliation ) I will never wash my face the same again I have learned my lesson and thanks to this video for helping me have the confidence of stepping out into public and ignoring all the pointing thanks 😃
Is your skin barrier healed
Sun in winter. I'll tell you a story: I once lived in Norway for several months, starting on june. I love that you can comment on videos before they premiere lol. Do I just blow up the comment section for the next 17 minutes until the video goes live???? The world is my oyster. Love you Cassandra!!
All that talk and I still forgot and missed the premier 😵💫
Ugh, I damaged my skin barrier last week. I’m still babying my skin to heal. Idk why I did this, but I used The Ordinary’s peel for their recommended 10 minutes instead of the 5 that I usually do. The 5 min was working just fine. Ruined my little bathroom spa night haha

Hi there! I’m currently dealing with a damaged skin barrier and using the cicaplast balm with Vaseline. How long did it take to heal your skin? I’m so worried maybe something else is going on or that it won’t heal.
Your natural hair is beautiful, I love that you are embracing your curls ❤️
Honestly, when i’ve been a bit too enthusiastic with my tretinoin or exfoliant, or if my eczema on my hands decides to chunk a tanty, i just stop using everything and just use plain water to clean and vaseline straight on top.
It’s usually all good in 48 hours 🤷🏻♀️
I hated to see the one article list Dove Body Wash as “tried and true”. They changed the formula sometime in the last year or two
, making it sulfate free but adding Cocomidopropyl Betaine.
@@LaiLaixo This must be why i no longer like it. I'm using now the bar soap from La Roche Posay, it's very good.
I’m glad my comment could help a couple people but I’m sorry to hear that you are having issues with the new formula.
Thanks for posting. All of a sudden I've been getting break outs on my body and couldn't figure out why. I'll hsve to switch and see if that helps. I've been using thr dove sensitive body wash for almost 10 years.
Finding this Channel and finally taking skincare into my own Hands and understanding what my skin needs and wants together with clearing all my skin Problems made my 2021, thank you
you are fricking great at making the education about skin so fun!!! 🖤
Ahh Enes buldum seni 🐥
Your advice makes hella lot of sense! You are amazing at your job! Keep doing this!
I have oily skin and i agree , mineral sunscreen is better for me 😍, and u are getting more beautiful 😍
Oh my goodness Cassandra!! Wow, I had to stop the video and get myself together for a bit…. My goodness queen, I’m so so happy you have over come this and helping everyone in the best way you can!
I might not always agree with you but you are such an amazing human being and I love you for that! My heart to you :)
Personally I’m surprised my skin was never damaged… I had a rough childhood growing up… goodness…. I hope others can also find the help on your videos to get the courage to see a derm. LOVE you Cassandra!!!
Stratia's Liquid Gold is also great for skin barrier support!
Thank you!!
I love that you're finding how to treat your skin in your own way. That's awesome
Best thing is to have a humidifier going at all times! I have xerosis and eczema and find this helps. That said, I live in Southern Australia so while we have a dry climate, it doesn't really get below sub-zero much!
Girl!!!! I just did this last week with an exfoliator ..destroyed my skin for a week
You have the perfect winter vibe with that sweater and hair combo! LOVE it!😍
I love your channel ❤. I'm not wearing makeup everyday anyone, but even when I do ,I'm more excited taking it off, and clean my skin and hydrating it 💖
Also get a humidifier!! Having one in my room is a game changer during the winter.
Your curly hair is GORGEOUS Cassandra! 💖 thank you for your video!
Great video! I love learning Skin Science and the chemistry behind it all ❄️
You look amazing in all your curly awesomeness!
How do u use only cold water to wash the SPF?
This is a good video .. my new regime skin barrier day retinol night its working so far cheers xx
Going through this right now as I watch this 😂 probably over exfoliated washing my face and using a retinol, and I always get this dry rash my face at the exact same spot during the winter 😂💀 this is a sign telling me to chill for a week haha
I love your videos. They help me learn so much more about my skin. ☺️
Aaaaaaah 32 hours!! I waited for a video like that!
I layer humectants and emollient rich creams on damp skin and seal it in with a urea barrier cream!
Thanks Cassandra! This is such a big help for me😘
Panthenol ....cream...helps damaged skin heal faster.
Hi Cassandra! You are on the good side of influencers
Omg I love the tiger self care card at the end
I'm dying!!!!!! Tried dermaplaning. Face is on 🔥. I did the clarisonic too. I still have it covered in dust
-I use a basic cleanser at night sometimes in the morning too(in the summer bc I sweat)
-Paula's choice BHA exfoliant
-the ordinary vitamin C serum
-hyaluronic acid from the ordinary
-cerave moisturizer
- the ordinary retinol (night)
-sunscreen
-AHA BHA Peeling mask from the ordinary once a week
-oil cleanser when I wear makeup (once every two months)
But my cheeks are always rosy along the cheekbones and my nose is rosy too and I get a few bumps on my forehead every couple of months and have some blackheads too. What should I do bc I have no idea what to use
the red rosy cheeks could be rosacea and/or a broken skin barrier. id really recommend azeliac acid as it fights acne and skin texture with its anti bacterial properties, and works super well even if you dont have rosacea!!
Arent ppl saying that the ordinary peeling mask damages skin?
Heyy your skin improved?
This is obviously not a reason to skip sunscreen, but is there anything we need to know about winter skincare in those parts of the world that get little enough sunlight at winter that medical professionals recommend vit D supplements?
Such a great video as always and also, I love the curls :)
Tretinon on my cheeks always cause paina nmand redness. Perphas retinol there instead. But love, lrp balm.
What are your favorite reasonably priced sunscreens? I feel if I don't spend a lot on them I will be more inclined to use them liberally every day.
How do you moisturize without feeding fungal infections on your skin?
My skin is dry and is burning. I live in Switzerland where the air is cold and dry.
Also CeraVe night renewing cream is a dupe of the skinfix cream too.
Hi MyCynni, thank you for your comment as well as your tip. Great minds think and act alike.
You are AMAZING!! 😊😊
Its not even snowing here and my skin's dead ass pealing rn, why??? stupid december weather changes
Having a humidifier going at home helps my skin a lot. It’s not snowing where I live either, surprisingly, but it is cold and dry. It’s worth a try if you don’t already have one
@@lindseystein9676 that's rather helpful, I think I have one at home, never knew it could help with the skin
@@lindseystein9676 will definitely try it thanks
CAN U PLS REVIEW TONYMOLY SKINCARE! (It’s a Korean skincare line)
love your hair cass! x
Wind burn is no joke either. Living in the Midwest we get major winds on occasion (tomorrow will be 50mph+)and if you have to be outside for a bit your face can become super painful.
OMG yes, your hair is looking so gorgeous and curly!!! 🌻
Cassandra I just want to ask that is there any combination between Vitaminc and the caffeine a...... ND Plzzzz try to review the antioxidant gingerol
Much awaited
I have eczema on my hands. I am trying to figure out the triggers. If I can figure out what causes the flair ups then I can avoid those products
She thinks that a case of perioral dermatitis which had spread to my eyes is far more likely ...
at 7.14 it says retinol loses effect when combined with vitamin c, but paulas choice retinol has vitamin c in it?
I think i have this on my nose and close to My eyebrows 🥺
Thank you ❤
How long does it take for the skin barrier to heal?
It isn't a mineral sunscreen, but the super goop is the ONLY sunscreen I have found that is well and truly clear. I really like it. :)
I also dermoplane once a week to exfoliate :)
My main concerns are dryness, acne, blackheads, and wrinkles and my skin type is mainly dry but i have some oily areas on my forehead.
Any sunscreen recommendations for a damaged barrier?
Eagerly waitingg 🤪
The skin on my hands has a destroyed barrier every yr from November till end of April they are sore cracked bleeding and hurt like f**k because of hand washing a hundred times per day
Antidressants can cause all the symptoms too , 😢
Cassandra what about using urea on broken skin barrier, such as eucerin urea cream it has 5% urea - will it help or further deepen the problem?
What cleanser should we use to wash of vaseline?
I remember when I was using face wash that sting my skin and then I've put my face prescription cream for acne, awww it burned my skin off. Literally, it was horror
I'm waiting 🤓🤓
Does having thin skin equate to having a damaged skin barrier? I'm taking certain medication that makes my skin thin and extremely dry. Not sure what I can do to improve my skin's condition.
My lips look like that after a few hours/ minutes without lip balm and start to peel around the corners of my mouth after a few days without putting on my prescription “lip balm/ treatment”
I’m just constantly wondering if this has a name or rather what the name of this condition is since I have had it my entire life and no one knows what it is or if it has a name
What do you think of probiotic skin care?
Hey Girl, just wanted to quickly ask about the Oils you mentioned. During my reasearch on how to repair my skin barrier and battle my redness i discovered Kukui Nut (Seed) Oil and it has helped me so much! Now i was just curious as of why this one was not on the list you showed in your video. Is it because the other oils are/work better for your skin or is it only because Kukui Nut oil is a little less known than the others? Love your videos and many of them have been helpful on my skinjourney so far. Keep up the good work. Lots of Love from Germany, Sarah
Can alcohol or a daily beer worsen my seborrheic dermatitis?
