Don't think you mentioned it, but the 111 does state "MADE IN USA" on back side. The 81438 does not!
Thanks, yes you are correct, i missed that. Also the 111 has CE and TUV for EU and Germany that the 81438 not has.

Yeah, Fluke Friday is back! Thank you, Tony for a look at these meters. I suspect the 81438 was made for Sears under a licensing deal with Fluke and probably manufactured in China, possibly with lower quality parts. Did you notice any differences in component manufacturers? Still, it looks good inside and performs well. Regards, David
Thanks David, the 81438 does not mention 'Made in USA' and CE and TUV like the viewers noticed. but to be honest the main board with parts looked exacly the same to me.
i think myself Fluke will not risk his name using lower quality parts. its just a marketing thing.
The 81438 is made for Sears...They are both 11X series...Top right code on board is prod week and year...Both boards SAY 11X (series) on top.81438 is marketed for home/hobby users in USA, (hence the 300V rating ) both are rated the same physically....

So it was indeed specifically made for sears for domestic/non professional use. Still I wonder why the weird random (as it seems) number. Maybe they did that to make sure it would never interfere with future lineups.

I still have a 112. If I remember correctly Fluke stopped this series because the design of the rotary switch was weak. The rotary switch is indeed a weak point and Ebay is full of replacement switches.
The 112 is nice with the backlight, i will have one soon, then i show the whole 110,111,112 side by side in an other FF. Yes ebay is full of switches when loooking for a 112...now it makes sense, reading your comment.
Funnily, my 111 is still perfect, I have it since 20 years or so. 😊
