Great job getting the bike rideable. When restoring my ZX10, I found reverse bleeding the clutch worked better. So pushing brake fluid into the slave cylinder using a syringe. 👍
good evening Ash and Kate I love watching your videos on your TH-cam channel when is Kate appearing with you on your motorbike builds I miss her she makes me laugh and smile and so do you I hope that you are all well please keep up the good work you do for everyone to watch on your youtube channel please keep safe and warm I cant thank you enough again
Amazing as usual, am so glad to see the progress on that machine and the compromise that you set on every single stage of the reconstruction, thank you a lot for sharing it!
Just found your videos, this is the first series I have seen but will watch the others. I'm considering getting a bike project myself, never done anything like it but it looks fun. Great work Ash.
IT'S A RUNNER ! Well done that man. PMSL when the clutch slave piston shot out like a bullet. Seconds before it did it was aimed right at your camera ! That would not have been funny..... for you. 🤣 Looking forward to more episodes with the Genesis.
Reason it says dot 3 is because dot 4 did not exist back then when yam was made,I like how you take things apart without knowing what's inside/underneath,I have had a good laugh watching this vid ,keep on rolling along.
@@AshRowlandat least you spill it on the bench and not the bike , from bitter personal experience it’s a very effective paint stripper , great channel by the way
Love your projects and videos, I used make similar projects couple years ago, now we just moved to a different country and all that it's behind... I see your joyful and happiness by reviving old engines and can understand you perfectly, keep doing it, at least you have one more follower also living through your channel, Kudos.
And the bonus content of close-up of the bruise under your thumbnail. Ouch! Great video as always Ash. Nice to see it running (and stopping!) so well after so much figuring out and troubleshooting.
Haha, I can't even remember how I did that, it was about 2 months ago! I was working on the GPZ I think! It stops even better now, I've done the front brakes since recording this!
Nice one ash getting it sorted ' that was funny with that caliper piston went flying across the room 😂 ' I kept thinking put a rag over over it ' but to late it was off . Enjoyed the video mate 🤟👍😊
Yamaha brakes from when they would seize as soon as they looked at winter. Good to see you using a Gu cheesecake pot. Worth buying a load of copper washers to keep in stock. Buying a pack of 100 is often not expensive. To get the pistons out when they are relatively free like those - block the banjo bolt hole and use the air line through the small hole between the 2 caliper halves. Or sometimes you can bolt one half upside down to the other with the halves blocking each others small transfer holes - then blow out with compress air in the banjo hole / bleed nipple hole. The reservoir lid is a common feature on Yamahas from around then Point brake / clutch pistons at something you don't care about when blowing them out! The extra seal is probably for the clutch pushrod into the engine.
There's this stuff called brake cleaner mate to break down that gunk... works wonders! keep going mate interesting project but that poor bikes had a lot of neglect.. and in pretty poor shape
I just took my gsxr 600 k5 out of. 10 year storage, stored dry and winterised, new fork and headstock seals and bearings, swingarm bearings, and caliper refurbs, started straight up after spinning her for a few secs without fuel to get the oil flowing!
4:05 "...rrrreeadddyyy....yeah, I didn't think there'd be anything in there." Hahaha...neither did I. And don't think you're the only one who's sent a brake calliper piston across the garage either!! Hahahaha!! Love it!
@@AshRowland Welcome to America! You buy it, pay your taxes and license plate fees, go for a ride! No brakes, headlight, old tires? No problem! Ride on...
Very enjoyable again Ash. Thanks. But please, put a clean bit of paper on your bench when you are putting hydraulic components together. The tolerances have to be fine so any little bits of grit are going to get you. I was cringing when you were batting your clutch master piston around in all that dirt. Live and learn, eh? Thanks for posting.
Thanks mate, funnily enough I do try and put blue paper down to prevent mess and contamination, but I've usually made the mistake by the time I remember 🤣 sorry, I will try harder 👍
No of course not, I'm waiting for the stanctions to come back so I can put the front forks back together. Once I've done that I'll have a rolling chassis 😊 the FZR is where I work mon-fri, the GPZ is at home and I'm not there much at the minute
For future get yourself some internal caliper piston pliers. Not expensive and grip the inside not the out. The clutch slave cylinder can be a pain to bleed. I did mine by reverse bleeding. (Syringe pumping fluid in from the bottom rather than trying to pump it down from the top.)
Stick to DOT4 or 5.1 (NOT 5), they have higher temperature ranges than DOT3. What they don't want is mineral oil in there , which will destroy the seals
Please wear gloves when working with brake fluid. Put your stuff insids of Tuppaware also then you lower the chance of getting shit from the table or cardboard insids your brake system
Well done, getting the clutch, rear brakes sorted, and getting it started and taking it for it's first run.
Yep, I've done the front brakes since filming this and not it stops better than my Thundercat 🤣
this channel is so much bloody fun! never stop this matey..and well done!
Thank you so much, don't worry, I'm not going anyway 👍
Great job getting the bike rideable. When restoring my ZX10, I found reverse bleeding the clutch worked better. So pushing brake fluid into the slave cylinder using a syringe. 👍
Makes sense to be honest... I didn't have a syringe though, so sucking it through using a pipe worked well for me

Hi 👋 thank you very much for your kind words and your support. Don't worry, Kate will be back soon, she's just not where the FZR is 😊
The small seal in the slave cylinder seal kit is for the clutch push rod, its located in the side of the crankcase.
Ah, thanks, I'll have a look for it 😊

Bike sounds great Ash !! congrats ! they do make a nifty tool for removing pistons from callipers. they grip the inside of the piston not the outside.
Yeah someone else suggested that, I'll get a pair ordered 👍 it sounds even better now that I've managed to balance the carbs 😀

Great idea, I'll order a pair... yea, I thought about that but didn't have a decent syringe to do it with. It works perfectly now though 👌
The location of the new seal in question (39:10) likely goes in the engine block to accept the clutch rod. They’re notorious for leaks
