To the people in the chat who see Terence as an underdog:
Do you seriously think that Neil deGrasse Tyson, Joe Rogan, Kyle, and countless other people would have spent any amount of time talking about Terence's treatise if one of you had written it and put it on your blog? Do you think they'd _ever_ give _us_ the time of day, would _ever_ waste time carefully dissecting our insane theories?
The _only_ reason the spotlight is on Terence is that he is a) rich and b) already famous. He. Is not. An underdog. He's a privileged celebrity-he's just not privileged enough for the whole world to pretend reality is wrong and he is right.

whatever the case about Howard, I think Thor would be a lot better of a communicator especially since it’s self proclaimed, if he took the ego down a bit. He seems competent he really should i usually switch off when i hear the first comment about his hair or anything like that. Or when he makes fun of people, that’s not productive, and it makes people like me that are here for science and not his personality tune out.

I don't buy his whole "1x1 is a metaphor" shit. He's just saying that because so many people have called out how ridiculous it is and he's obviously getting embarrassed. I unfortunately watched a little bit of that Oxford presentation. The students were challenging him on the 1x1 and he was arguing for it. Literally. Not metaphorically. Does Terrance understand that physics is about math? Can he even do the math? "Conversational" youtube physics is not real physics. Same thing with engineering. It's all math. That's the language you have to learn and use if you want to be taken seriously, not buzzwords(not to mention he doesn't even get those right) If he wants to be relevant and contribute something to science he needs to do the work and go back to school. I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm serious. If he's this interested in it, then he should really commit to it. The hardest part, for him it seems, would be learning humility.
EDIT: after watching the video for 2 more minutes, Kyle just said the exact same thing I said about language. I'm glad to know we're on the same page lol

I used to take up to 7 practice tests every other day in pre med, and I'd constantly fail forward until all the information was burned into my head. And passing tests was 1/5 of the battle. You also needed to thoroughly understand the information as well as other things. And you're never going to be at a point where you know everything. "I'm just asking questions" is like nails on a chalkboard to me. For starters, no, you're not. You're making an argument and phrasing it as a question to try and shield it. And, we know this because of that "just." Asking questions is great. JUST asking questions is not. What makes asking questions great is trying to find or come up with an answer to those questions, which is not something people who just ask questions (and usually imply the fact that they, and maybe the people they pose them to, don't know the answer means there is none) are doing.

@@heatherr4321 I think the guest was probably too advanced to explain things to a child. Terrance seems to be more concerned with the linguistics and has trouble conceptualizing things in a practical way. I assume that he knows what a grocery store is unless his maid or instacart does the shopping for him. But I'd just tell Terrence that Multiplicaiton is tool used to measure the relationship between groups. And that a grocery bag is something that can group an item. So if he had 2 grocery bags with 4 apples each would give you 8 apples, or 2 times 4 equals 8. And 1 orange in another grocery bag would give you 1 orange, or 1 times 1 equals 1. And if Timmy takes the orange out of the one bag without letting you know, and you check the bag to see that it's missing, the mathematical representation of that is 0 oranges. But if you must use multiplication to measure the relationship between the bag and the orange then it would be 1x0=0. So 1 times zero equals zero isn't saying that the orange disappeared into oblivion, it's just telling you that the specific item you're trying to measure or observe isn't part of the equation or the device (grocery bag) used to group the item.

Say I'm the boss at a company that makes electronic devices, and someone comes in and wants to get hired for a position as an electrical engineer. If I ask them, "What is Ohm's law?" and they cant answer that? I'm not going to hire them, because they clearly haven't done even the most basic level of education about the subject that they would need to be competent in (competent, not even an expert, mind you) in order to do the work I would require of them.

It made sense to me. People have a hard time seeing a person as a multifaceted entity. And we've reached a point where if you agree with someone on something, people automatically assume that you agree with him on everything. That's how people that had legitimate questions about the vaccines were labeled as anti-vaxxers and anti-science. Another example is how Republicans who agree with Democrats on some basic things are automatically labeled as RH.I.N.O.s . Or if you admit that Trump sometimes makes a good point or has done something good, you're automatically a Trump supporter.
Kyle probably learned this the hard way over the years and now makes that everyone knows what he's supporting and what he isn't.

In the game Risk, there is a strategy called Australian Turtle. Basically, it takes a low priority territory that has only one choke point where all your forces are concentrated. The reenforcements gained per turn are small but since Australia is so low priority, people forget about it while they waist resources on each other and allow your army to trickle into more than they can handle.
Lots of people are as ignorant as Howard and very gullible. Silence people like him, and they will still grow underground and eventually challenge the world anyway. It’s mostly because his scientific ideas have had nearly zero traction in the community. From the only scientists to actually evaluate “geometric unity” I quote:
“There may be the germs of some interesting mathematical perspectives arising from Geometric Unity, just like any arrangement of chess positions can contain interesting sub-configurations here or there. But even such a modest claim places the burden of proof on Weinstein, alone or with collaborators, to work out the arrangement of the missing pieces. Else as it stands, Geometric Unity is an incomplete and flawed proposal which no one else is obligated to digest, much less complete. And as to Weinstein’s far grander claim of possessing the keys to a genuine Theory of Everything, the limited scope of Geometric Unity makes it inconceivable how such a claim could possibly hold true. Like most rough drafts, Geometric Unity in its current form should have been developed further before being released, regardless of whether its author is an academician or an entertainer.”

But I think this is just a hobby for him... he gets pleasure from thinking that he knows what nobody else knows and it reinforces his idea of himself. I don't think he ACTUALLY wants to put in the REAL work.

1:02:38 Free speech isn't about what is correct speech or not. It's about not letting a moral authority tell you what you can say. A free speech absolutist might say they should be free to be dumb, but choose not to be dumb, on their own. If you tell someone who's unlikely to cause bombs to be made how to make a bomb, it won't have a bad impact, but it is clearly less constructive speech than speaking about music, and simply less risky. You should however let people realize this on their own. And so platforming someone or not isn’t about what should get out or not. It's about whether or not you trust your audience to think for themselves. And "come on" is not a rational argument. I mean no disrespect, just expressing myself.

I made it up through multivariable calculus, have always been interested in physics, and my degree is a BFA in (abstract) oil painting with a minor in illustration. I can get behind some deep thinking, looking at things with different colored glasses on (philosophically), meta povs, mixing different disciplines to see what emotions look like when interpreted in the language of physics, etc. What is produced, however, is *art*, not "new math." It can be good exercise for the brain, and you can learn tools you can use in innovative ways.
If he stopped depending on "if you don't think I'm right, then you just don't understand me" and let go of that ego, he might learn *why* people aren't understanding and (if possible) come at it differently.

I like your videos, Kyle. You're undoubtably a very intelligent and knowledgeable person. I think it's good that people like you, Neil and Eric, speaks out against these types of ideas. My one criticism, is that you are very hung up on Eric's politics and things he's said in the past.
I understand that American politics and social media is very different from it is here in Sweden. And I can understand and sympathize that you feel the need to defend yourself from being associated with Eric. But I think it is a bit like what you are discussing right now.
(DISCLAIMER: Incoming hyperbole) If Hitler had said "the Earth is not flat, but rather a sphere." I feel I could confidently cite Hitler without having to disavow myself from his ideology or actions. Because what he has said is the factual truth, no matter how much of a monster he was. Personally, I think I'd cite another source, but I'm sure you understand the point I'm trying to make.
I'm not saying you have to change, that was just something I noticed.
Otherwise, I fully agree with you and I think Neil did a good job, but the internet has become a troubled place where people reject science and objective reality. It's baffling. I get TikToks of someone who works in space, or rather posts videos from people in space. And a minimum of half the comments are talks about how it's a "Hollywood set", or "CGI", etc. I think the vast majority of them are joking and trolling. Nonetheless, it gets the message out there, and it affects others to believe in similar things.
As for Howard. I believe he's a grifter. He sells himself and his ideas. Look at how much attention he got from this. Even his role in Iron Man couldn't compare, and I liked him in that movie!
Enough babbling from me, good job and keep on fighting the good fight.
P.S. It should be said that I personally like Eric. Well, I like what he has to say and how he presents himself in scientific topics. I've read something about some theory he has that doesn't hold water. That's not something I am smart enough to back up, so I will of course go with what the majority of the scientific community says is right. I am as pleb as it comes in matters of science, but I'm not so pleb that I ignore smarter people than myself.
