Here’s another throwback: The Groove Merchant from 1969. The title says it all. This big band chart GROOVES. Jerome Richardson penned it, Thad Jones arranged it, & the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra made it their own. Mel Lewis lays down a jazz shuffle on this on that swings like CRAZY, & as an added bonus, we get to experience one of the greatest saxophone solis ever written 🥁🎷
