Why does matt keep cutring their beautiful manes? Hes still gorgeous biut, not as much as they do with long wavy flowing manes that make them look magical
i wonder how matt and jesse go along they are soooo different 😂😭 Jesse is like "oh maybe do slower, 1 step at a time" and Matt is like "nah whatever it'll be fine, it's nothing"
Probably why Jesse doesn’t say much even tho he has the experience, as even Matt says (yet then doesn’t listen to any suggestions). Btw the rider has to commit to each jump as any horse has to do.
to be fair, all horses can jump - heck, foals jump - it's just a matter of how they look, how coordinated they are, how high they can jump, things like that :)
Fun to see the horse gain confidence and can sense that he starts to feel good about himself as he progresses in this lesson. Such a willing and trusting soul in this horse! He wants to work for Matt. Its nice to see him with someone who will take care of his emotional needs and not just get performance out of him. He is a lovely horse....all are actually
Coming from a hunter jumper- he looked so great!!! He picked everything up so quickly and was super willing. The trust he has in you is crystal clear. Maybe something you should continue to dabble in sometime in the future! His knees looked great at the end ☺️
Yeah! Watching this I def wasn’t expecting him to do great Tbh since, hunters have a low headset and minimal knee movement as well as a reaching with their stride. But he was actually pretty good!!
This is so nice to watch, Etro clearly enjoys it once he gets used to the idea of it! You were totally right about him lifting his legs more with higher jumps. It seems the dressage helps him sometimes too, since you can control the length of his stride so accurately.
I'd love to see you exchange skills with Meg Elphick. Watching her try to ride dressage stallions and watching you on event horses would be such a fun exchange of skills
You have an amazing seat in the jumper saddle. Your cues are almost inperceptable! He really seemed to enjoy the ride and the jumps. He was really having fun! Good job all the way around.
No false tail needed for him. They would just braid the top portion. False tail is for horses who have a thin tail and they need it fill in for the Hunters. Your horse has a fantastic tail.
"OMG he's like a real showjumper!" *trips over cavaletti* did make me giggle! Bless him though for being such a trusting boy and trying so hard at something new. I think he had fun - nice stretch for his brain to do something different.
Error is such a gorgeous horse, when the sun hits him it's amazing. Thinking he was enjoying taking you on Matt. Thanks Matt and Jesse for taking us along.
Not a trainer, but I think doing this every once in a while, this would be great for him to do. I've had trainers that have said, "Do something different today, give his brain a break from this, and expand his experiences." It can do wonders for a horse's mental health, and physical health. He did great. :)
Etro is truly gorgeous (Matt and Jesse, all your horses are very beautiful!) 😍 He is a "compact" horse, I don't think he's big or fat but rather well muscled 🔥 Sometimes you change the activity of your horses just for fun and I think it's good for them. For a first try, it's a success! Etro assesses the situation (which is unusual for him) and passes the pole or cavaletti successfully. Well done Matt and Etro! 👏 I look forward to another jumping session. Thank you for a very pleasant video. Love to you both! 😃💖
This is what I needed right now! I am reschooling my ex racehorse to find his new call in life 😊 love how you introducing your horse to new things and not doing dressage all the time ❤
I had a try at eventing with my ex racehorse which didn’t work out too well. I’ve currently been doing dressage with him and we are slowly getting back into jumping. I would love to do hunters worth him since he has such nice gaits and does well on the flat in the under saddle classes
With my first of many OTTBs, I put a hackamore on so there was none of the confusion about 'pull harder means go faster' so common in retraining racehorses. I didn't spend any time in an arena, and only a few days in the pasture to ensure we agreed on stop, go, left, right, and she quickly understood that life was going to be different and interesting and always fun. John Lyons said, your horse should be more relaxed after a session than before; I added, they should have fun every session. Over the next dozen years we did about everything: pulled an antique carriage to give guests rides for Grandad's 90th birthday party, herded cattle, laughed ourselves silly having bareback swimming races, hunted deer and elk in Idaho Wilderness areas, carried packsaddles, scouted Brittany field trial training and competitions, and saw millions of square miles of the most beautiful land on earth while endurance riding over 800 sanctioned completion miles. We even rode a dressage test. Misty learned each skill quickly and happily, lived outside with buddies in a 30 acre pasture of hills, forest and pond, and never had an ulcer. She, we, had fun. Every single session.
I absolutely adored at what an absolute doll he was about the whole thing and how he wasn't pressured into the whole ordeal and had time to process what he needed to. He did so well!
Soo fun. I love the contrast between Matt and Jesse's commentary! Love you guys! He did really well considering ...lol. look forward to all of your videos. Xo😊
Bravo! So good for horses to use muscles differently, fun way to offset any possible burnout 🙌 more little jumps and one day(s) soon maybe off to the beach for a gallop-about romp! ❣👏 👏 > You're so good and kind with your horses Matt! Bless you for all you do on your channels and @HorseWorldTV to elevate care and horsemanship! 🔥
He actually does look a bit like a Warmblood maybe a Dutch warmblood in that tack! And he has a promising jump Matt you might have something brewing here!!
I haven't watched your videos in a while, and I hardly recognize Etro! He's always been beautiful, but he's really blossomed under your care. Stronger, relaxed, confident... It looked like he was having a lot of fun going over the poles!
Adding cavaletti and small jumps to all your dressage horse’s training will help their back so much. I’ve always loved how the Klimkes teach cross training from the beginning.
The saddle pad, boots, girth, maybe bridle, Breast collar, and the running martingale. I’m a hunter jumper and there are wayyyy to many rules on tack some stuff is aloud in the schooling shows durring flat classes and other stuff isn’t allowed at all! Hope this helps
Low jumping is great for dressage horses. In Germany they free jump their dressage horses regularly, once every week or two, they don't jump them themselves because they are dressage riders and don't want to jump haha. In Reiner Klimke's book "Basic Training Of The Young Horse" he talks about the importance of sending them over fences for fitness and strengthening. It is also good for their minds and to really connect them with their foot placement. Well done!
This was my thought, he's obviously a dressage horse going over, but the mental exercise at something different was very noticeable! Wonderful brain stimulation ❤
Aww! He tried so hard for you. Definitely started to get the hang by the end. I think it’s fantastic to mix things up and give them something new/some variety :)
Thanks for sharing. Etro has a beautiful shiny coat. . To me with his short stocky build I see him as a performance. Chase seems to have the longer stream line body of a jumper. All being said great 1st time. He did good taking it all in
It doesn’t matter the activity, Matt will do it with impeccable style. I don’t know anything about dressage or jumping, but Etro looked like he was having great fun! It’s always a good time watching your videos, guys. Etro is beautiful! 👏🏻💯
It had to happen, eventually ... Matt's famous very British "KHAN-TA-ing" has now evolved into the English/Dutch version as "cannering", which we all love & adore so much more!!! Hoo-ray for the lovely influence of The Netherlands !!! 💥😃❤️🤗💥
Definitely more jumper than hunter lmao you’d get dismissed from the hunter ring so quick with that tack set up😂 he looks great and looks like he had a lot of fun!
Gotta love iberians for their willingness to learn and ability to work in any English or Baroque discipline, really. Sure, their baroque roots and square bodies plus their gait power fits so well into dressage, but I know some that do really well in jumping!
Love watching you both I’m a big fan , I’ve trained problem horses my whole life, and I know how much damage most people can do to their wonderful kind horses, your a good example for youngsters coming up how much you love them while still being able to push them competitively, we need more good examples like you, more than ever. Please keep it up.❤
There are Hunter Jumper competitions in the Netherlands! It's organized bij the HJA (Hunter Jumper Association). I'm not a member but they did a clinic a few years ago at Horse Event.
Matt needs to buy a hunter jumper! Its just fun how much time he says Hunter Jumper 😂❤. Loved this ❤❤ Etro looked so happy with himself in the end. Like he said to himself, yeah im killing it 😂❤ And yes to this more often. Its fun to do different things, so why not 👍🏼
@sciepchol - Agree 100%. 🎯 🎯 🎯 It's so good for their mental health - having varied learning & stimulation. Etro's so gorgeous & a really quick learner. Matt - whatever you're feeding him - keep doing it! His shine is crazy beautiful. Funny to see your 'back' is still riding in Dressage style - rounded spine & leaning backwards! 😁 In Hunter/Jumper style (it used to be called Forward Seat Equitation or riding 'Hunt Seat' ) - your back is hyper flexed, shoulders back, heels waaaay down & lower spine is convex. For Etro's 1st time .... 👍👏👏👏 PS: hi to Jesse too! Love your commentary. 😘
The horses everytime you come home from a show: OMG he went somewhere. What will be be doing this time? Keep him away from the western events or else he will come back with a western saddle and a rope 🤣. It is a good time just watching you have fun with your horses. That is what it is all about.
He picked the stride up really fast, Very smart horse. I think that is a great mental challenge for him to have a break from just all dressage training Good Job !
Matt he doesn't have a Draft face. Assuming it's his built up neck which will soften doing hunt anyway. He will have to find his balance. Beautiful boy
I remember the video of you putting the cavaletttis together and being frustrated because you wanted Etro. Now you have him and hes jumping the cavaletti. You make a great team! Hes so pretty and doing great!
Don't know what it's called in english but I call it trotting boom. It looked as he found it easier, stride wise, to have a trotting boom before the actual jump. But you should make your own hurdles or buy some to see if he jumps them. If he jumps a stock hurdle or a fence. But that's probably for when he has jumped a couple of times. Real good job! I love the way you praise him 🥰
You'd probably enjoy the EQ over fences classes over the HJ over fences. More technical courses, and generally more upright proper looking posture as well as the horses are allowed boots. You actually can't wear boots in most other divisions outside of EQ classes in the states if you're not a regular jumper. HJ show classes are stricter about horse and rider dress code like using a saddle shaped white pad, no colored stirrups, plain cavesson bridles (some fancy stitching is popular), there are some bitting restrictions like no gags, and curb bits sometimes take points away depending on the judge, though many people stick with D ring cheek pieces, loose rings, full cheek, and sometimes eggbutt. muted color jackets (though jackets with colorful liners have been popular for awhile), white or tan breeches for most classes (some allow rust or green khaki), and basically everyone only has brown tack. And little to no bling on helmets, browbands, boots, or anywhere else bling can be. It's pretty boring when that's all you do forever, but simplicity is nice and showcases the horse and rider more, which I think is the purpose outside tradition. But depending on the barn people can school in anything they'd like to.
PREs aren't bred for jumping but they can do it quiet good if you train them. Aso some jumps is a great way to add new elements to the training and gymnastic exercises for your horse.
lots of hunter classes every summer in all the county shows which qualify for either Rpyal International or Horse of the Year show championship. the hunter jumper class equivalent is called working hunter but there are also just ridden quality and confirmation hunter classes too
Of course Pre can make a gracefully athlectic Jumper. One thing, particularally if a stallion, youll have to raise the heighth of your fences if want to keep inside a pasture.
I agree with Jesse …. No bit is best but if you have the perfect bit …. you do not NEED a pesky flash. Horses really don’t like having their mouths tied. It is not comfortable. Just think if it were your mouth. Especially if the bit is not perfect. You are into creating a partnership with your horses not controlling them no matter what !
He does much for you! You're really blessed with your horses. He's such a good and brave boy. It would have been better if you would have given him more rein over the jump. Plus your chest/upper body has to move more forward, too. Your hand has to be soft, encouraging the forward movement and balance over the jump. The whole body language has to be supportive to help him reaching the goal on the other side. You have good control over him, but like the great show jumper Hans Günther Winkler once said: "You have to let go and push your heart over the jump first 😄😉 Your body and the horse will follow." You still sat much like a dressage rider- sorry for being blunt and honest- typical german I suppose 😂 Next time a higher ground tempo might help Edro, too. Some rounds gallopping standing in the stirrups first, a softer, forward moving hand and he'll do just fine. You can tell from this video why good dressage work is called the basic ground for jumping! He improves and like you said: this will strengthen your bond with him and his trust in you. Good luck and have fun the next time!
Matt: "tell me he doesn't look like a hunter jumper????"
Jesse:"... I've never seen one"
Matt: "oh, well they look like this" 🤣
Haha I was cracking up at the same thing. Classic Jesse and Matt! I love it! ❤
Why does matt keep cutring their beautiful manes? Hes still gorgeous biut, not as much as they do with long wavy flowing manes that make them look magical
bless him he is so pretty you have such a nice home and your a really cool Jesse is very quiet 😂❤️
bless him he is so pretty you have such a nice home and your a really cool Jesse is very quiet 😂❤️
i wonder how matt and jesse go along they are soooo different 😂😭 Jesse is like "oh maybe do slower, 1 step at a time" and Matt is like "nah whatever it'll be fine, it's nothing"
Matt is very wayward. 😊 I think they get along just fine because you know…opposites attract!
Probably why Jesse doesn’t say much even tho he has the experience, as even Matt says (yet then doesn’t listen to any suggestions).
Btw the rider has to commit to each jump as any horse has to do.
He learnt so quickly and jumped so sweetly bless him he’s gorgeous
I was thinking the same thing, a very quick study, clever clever beautiful boy!!
love the first part where hes like oh whats that? its in the way, i need to keep my foot higher
to be fair, all horses can jump - heck, foals jump - it's just a matter of how they look, how coordinated they are, how high they can jump, things like that :)

Jesse saying "Next up, rodeo" totally cracked my up. That was funny.
Etro looks so beautiful in the sun.
Jesse is an amazingly talented jumper. Seen footage of him jumping. He is much too humble.
As an instructor, you did it the exact way I would have done. Nice and relaxed with no pressure to perform. Well done
The fact that he never refused is a testament to your relationship and the soundness of his mind. He's come a long way!
I would love to see him continue to be a jumping horse rather then dressage, he looks so free & like he’s having so much fun❤️
He's such a beautiful horse and a quick learner too. Very fun to watch him play with different styles thank you. Love and hugs 🐎🐶💝
Etro looked so proud of himself after the little jumping session. He seemed to like it. ❤
As a fellow hunter, the tack gives me more jumper vibes than hunter lol. But amazing job Matt and Jesse. ❤😊
Fs lol. He did pretty good though Tbh! That tack is prob all the had
I love the hunter build this horse has he’s so pretty! He’s got a good personality and is very confident once he gets it after the second time!
Jesse: "Yet." 😄 So patient, yet expecting the worst.
Etro
sjchung1632, I swear I did type Etro, but my iPad had its own ideas,Lol, (should have checked before I hit reply). Thanks
I have been following Matt and Jesse for a long time. They are both talented and highly skilled trainers. Amazing to watch!
Not a trainer, but I think doing this every once in a while, this would be great for him to do. I believe he really appreciated and enjoyed the change of pace. Cross training is great!
Love seeing Etro again! I can’t wait to see how his journey goes with you Matt ❤ So much potential in that beautiful horse! ✨
Jesse’s comments are the best 😂😂
That is true - the rider can make an issue out of something that wouldn’t be an issue. That’s a wise piece of advice.
I absolutely adored at what an absolute doll he was about the whole thing and how he wasn't pressured into the whole ordeal and had time to process what he needed to. He did so well!
He and you did so well🎉
Omg, hey Jesse!!❤
What a magnificent stallion and seems so kind.
Bless his soul he tried so hard he looks like he could be a jumper he looks good jumping😀❤

The fact that most of the tack is not allowed in the hunter ring 😂 this is so cute though!!!!!
I was wondering if anybody would notice that.
I don’t know anything about hunting wich parts are not allowed?
The saddle pad, boots, girth, maybe bridle, Breast collar, and the running martingale. I’m a hunter jumper and there are wayyyy to many rules on tack some stuff is aloud in the schooling shows durring flat classes and other stuff isn’t allowed at all! Hope this helps
@@roseytheequestrian The flash would be illegal too.
I forgot about that but yes!

Good to remember Klimke
As a hunter-jumper he looked extremely good and he picked his feet up amazing 🤩
Looove this chaotic energy AND Matt's look with this hat. Such a farmer💅🏻 just a farmer with his sweet horse going for a morning ride🧑🌾 style ❤
He definitely enjoyed it once he got it! I think he also understood it a bit better then emporio lol
Yes, Etro seemed to really like to jump 😃
This horse has such a big heart! Thinking so hard to do it right 🥺
He looked like he really enjoyed the challenge. He's definitely a thinking horse, if you get my meaning. Gorgeous as well. Really very proud of him!!
He did good taking it all in
He did so amazing!! You both looked like you were having so much fun. What a good boy! ❤
He’s such a beautiful boy! He so willing to try what you put in front of him to please you. This was so fun to watch. Thank you
♥️🐴😁
He was super! He was really trying his heart out! He was really enjoying that I think 😍😍 he’s such a stunning horse!
It doesn’t matter the activity, Matt will do it with impeccable style. I don’t know anything about dressage or jumping, but Etro looked like he was having great fun! It’s always a good time watching your videos, guys. Etro is beautiful! 👏🏻💯
"Cute."
And Jesse was, once again, absolutely correct.
Love when Matt does jumping videos! Would love to see more of Etro jumping in the future. His jumps are very cute.
He did really good in sorting his feet out! Etro has improved a lot, it was so much fun to watch the two of you!
2:34 nice jesse xD I needed a moment to realise
Well done! I was surprised to see that Antares and Macho were unconcerned about a new horse in the arena.
It had to happen, eventually ... Matt's famous very British "KHAN-TA-ing" has now evolved into the English/Dutch version as "cannering", which we all love & adore so much more!!! Hoo-ray for the lovely influence of The Netherlands !!!
💥😃❤️🤗💥
I love seeing a horse learn something new and he looked like he enjoyed the challenge! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Entro seems so much more relaxed than when you first got him…..he knows he is home and that you are his person…😊
Jesse casually in the background: "It's like Mikado" 😂
Matt needs to buy a hunter jumper! Its just fun how much time he says Hunter Jumper 😂❤. Loved this ❤❤
Etro looked so happy with himself in the end. Like he said to himself, yeah im killing it 😂❤
And yes to this more often. Its fun to do different things, so why not 👍🏼

The wrong bit will cause the tongue to come out. He's not a hunter type😂
He will get talented when you add this activity😅
Was fun to watch but not a great hunter. He tries so hard to be a good boy!🎉
He looks so good and happy! 100% have a future eventer on your hands.
His canter looks so smooth to ride to , what beautiful horse ❤️
He is going to be an amazing jumper once you're finished with him I am so proud of the two of you
So brave! 🎉💖 He got more expressive as the cross-poles got bigger which was so cool to see! 🦄
The horses everytime you come home from a show: OMG he went somewhere. What will be be doing this time? Keep him away from the western events or else he will come back with a western saddle and a rope 🤣. It is a good time just watching you have fun with your horses. That is what it is all about.
Matt is the only person I have ever heard describe the hunters as "fun"
What a great confidence builder for Etro! He has the sweetest attitude
I know some jumping PREs and there was a famous Lusitano called Novilheiro who jumped super successfully internationally with John Whittaker!
He picked the stride up really fast, Very smart horse. I think that is a great mental challenge for him to have a break from just all dressage training Good Job !
"the last jump of the 'Kentucky whatever-from-the-US'" 🤣
Matt he doesn't have a Draft face.
Hes so pretty and doing great!

you look so good together😍😍 he looks so good, and very shinny with the sun.
He looks like he is having so much fun jumping! Love the videos🫶
Novilheiro, a Lusitano, ridden by GB Olympian John Whitaker, one of the top jumpers in 1982
You have hunter classes in NL. I know because I live in Belgium and I want to do that with my recycled racehorse...So go for it Matt ;-)
PREs aren't bred for jumping but they can do it quiet good if you train them. Aso some jumps is a great way to add new elements to the training and gymnastic exercises for your horse.
Videos like this make me more confident in my own skills. We all have uneven stirrups somedays. ❤
lots of hunter classes every summer in all the county shows which qualify for either Rpyal International or Horse of the Year show championship. the hunter jumper class equivalent is called working hunter but there are also just ridden quality and confirmation hunter classes too
We call it “working hunter” in the U.K. We also have Show hunter, no jumping involved.
Moment of appreciation for Jesse's "I'm the realest" comment following first things first....
Thanks for sharing, Etro looks amazing. Great seeing you have fun. ❤
Etro looks great! He is a stunning bay
He is a beautiful horse 🐎 and very smart caught on quickly to what you wanted him to do 😊👋🏻
Gorgeous Etro. What a pleasure to watch him.
You have good control over him, but like the great show jumper Hans Günther Winkler once said:
"You have to let go and push your heart over the jump first 😄😉
Your body and the horse will follow."
You still sat much like a dressage rider- sorry for being blunt and honest- typical german I suppose 😂
Next time a higher ground tempo might help Edro, too.
Some rounds gallopping standing in the stirrups first, a softer, forward moving hand and he'll do just fine.
You can tell from this video
why good dressage work is called the basic ground for jumping!
He improves and like you said: this will strengthen your bond with him and his trust in you.
Good luck and have fun the next time!
He's doing really good, just takes times, he's a fast learner and so beautiful ❤
I just love Etro. He is so very cute. You did well!
Wow, I think Etro did really well. Bravo!
