To summarize 23 minutes. Matt found his dream horse in January, wanted to vet and buy him, owners said there was another person coming to look at horse first, turned out to be an acquaintance/friend. Said friend was a cow and told Matt she was interested in buying the horse with full knowledge that Matt wanted the horse. She strung him along, horse failed vet check with cracked hoof, Matt stops talking to said friend. She buys another horse. He waits for hoof crack to be fixed, is now flying out to see horse with trainer.

I hardly think she was a cow. He put her in an awkward position by basically expecting her to drop her own interests just because he wanted to look. She had already scheduled to see the horse. I can fully understand why she might have felt weird talking to him about it especially if he talked to her like he did in the video. (“My” horse etc) That might have led to the stringing along feeling because the communication wasn’t clear.
Either way we only have his side of the story and characterizing someone based off one interaction is not great either. I’m about 50/50 on them sharing the blame here and I don’t think it was drama. I think it turned into drama because Matt didn’t get what he wanted immediately and took it personally.

Not trying to be rude but she was interested first, the owner keeping their word is fair. How can you tell that’s not the horse she wants, if she’s out in Spain looking around, you can fall in love with any horse if the bond is there. This whole video comes off as you being super entitled with money and expecting everyone to drop everything for you since you found another ‘dream horse’. It seems like she was worried about wanting to buy the horse you was also wanting.
You making it public was really petty. You are trying to make her feel bad. You said she’s a smaller influencer, like I said before, she’s probably terrified to buy it knowing you’d make these videos and posts. Her not buying it because of the hoof, is fair play.
End point is, she was booked in first to see the horse, she had every right to book the vet check even if you were head over heels.

    Matt,
I don’t know how much this relates to your industry (I’m a Reiner) but I was given extremely good advice by a friend who is a $7 million dollar rider in our industry. That many horses he’s trained/showed did NOT have flawless X-rays or vet checks. He said a vet check should never be the last nail in the coffin. He said as long as the horse isn’t showing signs of lameness in exam and nothing major on X-rays then don’t always fault the horse. Instead he said to be aware of the flaw and speak to your trainer/vet/farrier if this flaw is something that can be managed very easily throughout their life. You’d be shocked how many amazing horses I’ve purchased for myself and clients that had minor flaws but showed no issues in live work/training and are still doing 100% fine. I bought an older stallion (15yo now) who had the beginning stages of arthritis, but with my farrier doing special shoeing, and a monthly injection of Legend & Adequan IM you’d never know. He gets ridden 5-6x a week. I have another mare that got a severe case of EPM as a 2yo. You’d never know today and I still work cattle on her regularly (she’s 13). Another mare tore her ACL as a 2yo, we did stem cell injections, hydro therapy and turned her out for 3yrs. From age 5 to now 13 she’s as sound as can be and is an extremely high caliber show mare who just had 3 embryos pulled. Just my take on things, but I totally understand the frustration and caution. Wishing you well and I hope you find what you’re looking for!!!
P.s. I know you are friends with Erin Williams, she came out to our ranch in Texas for a week and rode our horses. She can testify what I say is true!! We still speak regularly about horses all the time. 🥰 If you ever want someone to talk horses to feel free to message me!

Great advice! Of course you can't let your heart overrule common sense, but how many of us are perfect? You can invest a small fortune in the perfect horse and sometimes they just don't enjoy the work. Having the heart, a willingness to please, and a strong relationship can overcome many minor flaws.

I'm a fan of Matt and here's my honest opinion - this video comes across as entitled.
Matt is a millionaire equestrian influencer who has all the means in the world to find him his "dream horse". The girl in the video was said to be a small influencer, which makes me think - is she at all in a comparable situation to be able to give up on a horse she flew out to see, just because her friend wants the same horse? And not to mention, Matt decided only based on ONE video that this was the horse that he wanted - he hadn't even seen the horse in person nor ridden him, yet was already pressuring his friend to give up on the horse. Had I been the friend in this situation, I wouldn't have been able to take him seriously.
There's no way for Matt to know that the girl didn't also strongly like this horse after riding him. Not everyone expresses feelings the same. Also, not everyone needs to view a horse as some special, never-before-seen Unicorn to want to buy it. It's not her fault that Matt is so picky about his horses that no other horse is good enough for him - again, Matt has all the means in the world to find the perfect horse.
There wasn't any valid reason that the owner should have let Matt vet check the horse first either just because he was willing to pay a deposit. I'm not super well versed on Spanish horse culture, but here in northern europe it would in fact be seen as a red flag and suspicious if a buyer is offering to buy a horse just based on a video. A lot of sellers here would feel more comfortable showing a horse to a buyer who's acting normal and not rushing to immediately buy it at first glance.
So yeah, the vibe in this whole video was kinda off. It made me think that even though Matt might be ethnically european, he is not culturally so. He's a white male who grew up in a hyper-capitalist English-speaking country (Australia in his case) and acts as expected.

TBH no one has to consider anyone else, friend or not, when they're buying something for themselves. Aside from sensing she was being shady towards you, the truth is, even if you want something and you think you want it more than someone else, it doesn't mean that the other person should give it up either. Those thoughts and feelings are totally subjective. What probably happened is the sellers knew the horse wouldn't meet your standards because of the hoof and they didn't want to discard another potential buyer. They were right to do that. However, they should have disclosed the hoof problem to you way early on. The real lesson here is "wanting" is equal opportunity even if you think you want or deserve something or someone more than another.

This is an intelligent assessment. Well tought out. The reality is probably everyone goes through an experience with something they really, really want, be it a romantic partner, horse, career position, or another desire. They think it is just the right one for them. It seems absolutely perfect after having searched and waited usually for years to find excatly the right one. Then, it is snatched out from under them. They are strung ao along at first, made to think they have a chance, offered a second rate compromise in exchange. It is a pretty miserable experience. I hope this is the right horse for Matt. I get that the going back and forth and not being clear in her messages is annoying and can come of malicious, but aside from that, I know this might be a controversial opinion: neither the owner letting someone else come, nor the woman for going to visit and being interested in the horse and not taking you into consideration in the first place (she has to put her own search first, you do too) did anything wrong up until that point. I wouldn't let someone else, not even a friend, talk me out of considering a horse myself because they want them too, neither I think would you in what you know is a difficult proces. I don't think you can ask that, especially of someone that you only know a little from online, like you said, not even in real life. Bad luck happens in this search, like someone else having the chance to go visit and make an offer sooner than you...

I would argue that when you’re buying a horse, it’s first come first served when going to view them. Otherwise the owners could be putting off potential buyers for one person who also might string them along.
However, when ye went as far as to put down a deposit, that should have been the thing that meant the original owners pulled the horse off the market then. It showed you were serious and it paid them for the time that they were keeping the horse off the market away from other buyers for.
Also, I would take vet checks with a pinch of salt. It’s just one point in time and as someone once said, if you were vet check us humans, you’d find a lot of faults with us too. So why treat horses the same way. A lot of stuff vet checks pick up can be treated or superficial and not impact on them at all eg. The hoof crack. Use a vet check to aid your decision, not to finalise it.

I GET that it's annoying, but the world doesn't owe you this horse, and whilst I agree it would have been kind to just drop seeing it and leave Matt to do the vet check, she doesn't owe him that either.. Again, I would be pissed and sad too, but that doesn't mean she did the wrong thing here? It's not like she only went to see that horse BECAUSE Matt liked it and did it only to snatch it from him? And if I was her, I would be scared to be up front with him too, because I would be scared of EXACTLY this video happening where he just makes me out to be a backstabbing POS. It honestly *sounds* like if someone doesn't drop their own wants for Matt's then you're a BAD FRIEND and he's gonna make public instagram stories and youtube videos to guilt trip you into giving him what he wants.. This video is very one sided...
Also "I'm not gonna badmouth you" after spending like 10 minutes badmouthing her to his audience of 400k people who are all now in the comments going "what a cow" he did this only to hurt her... xD

I know for sure that any animal that is lucky enough to be in your care is blessed, because you always put theirs needs first. I don't understand why you seem to think you should have had dibs on the horse? This woman was interested before you and had the chance to see it before you. It was only fair she went first. It's a first come first served thing.
Also, don't forget the owners have the right to choose who would be the perfect owner of their horse and it's their choice to choose who they think would be the better fit.
Yes she should have just been straight with you. But she also clearly didn't want to fall out, that's probably why she was wishy washy with you. I wouldn't call it stringing you along.

@Belinda Barham Regardless, the owner still has the right to pick their prefered owner over another.
I was in a similar situation when I had to sell a beloved horse. I picked the person who I felt would give him a better life and turned down someone else, who came to see him first. It was my horse, my choice.
And weather he felt he had the right to call it his horse before it was or not, he was behaving intitled.

@Belinda Barham I don’t need to take a breath. Please don’t patronise me.
I think you need to watch the video again. The owner made him aware they had decided to let the other interested party view the horse first, before he spend money on a vet check. So he invested nothing at the time. If he did, say in flights. He would have been jumping the gun and that would have been his fault. I don’t think he did though. Also buyers have no rights until a deposit as been paid. They clearly didn’t accept a deposit because they wanted the other interested person to see the horse first.

Potential buyer may have legal rights in your country. But not in mine or in most European counties. If there is no contract and no money exchange. There is no right. No one could force me to sell my horse to them.

      @smurfmonster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@pogpogpog7507 if the timing of things had been different I would completely agree with you but when Mat was making arrangements to have the horse vetted the sellers told Matt that they already had someone else interested and that they had made prior arrangements to come to view, so in effect the seller had already got into negotiations (for want of a better term) with the other party BEFORE they got into the discussions with Matt. The other party found the horse first and made arrangements to fly out and see it before Matt spoke about getting a vetting done. Matt was no further forward in the purchasing process than the other lady, (they both said they wanted the horse subject to a positive vetting) the other lady simply found the horse first and made her arrangements with the seller. I think it’s unfair of Matt to expect someone to rule out a horse simply because he’s interested in it. Matt makes it sound like this person isn’t really interested in the horse and is stringing him along for the sake of it. If she was just stringing him along she wouldn’t have gone to the effort and cost of flying out to view it and actually GETTING a vetting done (we all know how damn expensive they are right🙈), she genuinely wanted the horse the same as Matt.
What right has Matt to say the horse is or isn’t what she’s looking for thus giving him priority, he doesn’t know exactly what she’s looking for she could have been buying it for a client and frankly it’s none of his business.
For me it boils down to the fact she found the horse before Matt did and she made her enquiries and arrangements to view with the sellers before Matt was on the scene and the sellers honoured this.
Matt made his enquiries after her but he expected her to forget about all the time and money she’d invested in a horse she wanted to buy and to step aside for him just because he wanted it, it was his “dream horse”, this is the epitome of entitlement and spoilt behaviour (incidentally when he bought his other two horses they were his “dream horse” at the time of purchase as well).
He then says “I would never tell her not to buy the horse because I’m not like that” but then he says he expects her “to do the right thing” and blasts her on his TH-cam channel accusing her of being manipulative.
The “right thing” to do would be to get in line behind the person that got there first, not try and emotionally blackmail them and wait in turn to see if the horse is sold or not THEN decide if you want to proceed or not.
I’m really disappointed, I’ve always held Matt in high regard and have actively fought his corner in comments but his attitude and actions on this have made me see him in a different light.😢

i know exactly what you mean when you felt an instant connection to a horse, even down to the shivers down the spine. It's happened to me three times in my life...and all three horses ended up being "the right horse." One did have soundness issues from an old injury, yet I was able to do almost everything you could do with a horse with her, and she gave me a beautiful filly. She is now semi-retired and still has a career teaching young riders.
I also bought horses when I didn't have that feeling, even though objectively speaking, they should have been the right horse. I learned to listen to that inner voice.
I am just an ordinary horseman that's aging out of riding. I never had the means to buy expensive or elite horses. But the impact of decisions impacts me just as much, emotionally and financially, as an elite horseman. The few things I have learned:
    1. When the "right" one comes along, be ready to jump, immediately. Of course a good outcome depends on being clear on what you want and need (the non negotiables) versus "would be nice" or "I can live with that" (the negotiables). Sounds like you are crystal clear on all that. In my case, being ready to jump meant waiving a vet check, once. Something I would never recommend to anyone else! But then, I wasn't paying big bucks, and I was willing to accept the risk. (My gamble paid off).
    2. If at all possible, get a pre-purchase contract with the seller, which puts in writing that you have first right to purchase within a set timeframe. This really helps the seller's reputation too. The seller is at least partially at fault here by not having a clear process for "order of go" in place.
    3. Especially in elite and high end horses, it's a cutthroat business. What happened to you has happened to many others. It's best to assume that this kind of situation WILL happen, sooner or later. If you can protect yourself with a pre-purchase contract all the better. (I realize that international sales make this difficult to impossible--but getting something is writing is good.) Everyone knows everyone in these circles, and I am sure it's not uncommon for one buyer to let another one test the waters or get a vet check, and then swoop in. And, in some sales I am sure there is an element of deliberately buying a horse just to keep a competitor from getting their hands on it!
Good luck, and I look forward to hearing "the rest of the story."

Feel you about this whole situation. I have rare breed horses, and I will tell you it's sheer torture "searching" for the ONE, and finding so many issues, dead ends, personalities, drama. And seeing folks true colors. It's also a lot of mojo in a sense, you "know" when you know it "could" be the one. And sometimes it's just a photo or description and then it is your due diligence to get the final answer. But what an adventure.. It is worth it when it all comes together. Vet check to the max, never regret it. Bless the horse and all the best luck seeing him! Can't wait to see what happens & to see the horse! Edge of our seats.

Hi Matt, I've been watching you for awhile. I just popped on TH-cam today, to go to one of my gratitude meditation videos as I start my day, but I immediately paused because I had this strong sense to watch this video! Soooo, yes, wow this story brings me to tears! THIS HORSE IS YOUR HORSE! You were a beautiful soul through that whole drama and yes, DIVINE INTERVENTION is at play here. You did do everything right on how you handled everything with that woman and your patience and kindness is finally being returned/rewarded with "exactly" the horse you've been looking to have in your life!! Go from your soul instincts, just like you correctly & intuitively picked up on that lady's manipulation and enjoying the "game"--which also angers me she did that & it is good that unlinked from her energy! Her loss right?! Because you are SUCH a beautiful human being Matt! The immediate connection you had watching the very first video, PLS TRUST THAT 🙏🏻💯; and those "goosebumps" feeling you had intuitively, I call them "Godbumps"...it IS all being perfectly aligned and arranged for you by God/spirit/universe/higher source (whatever you may call it). This horse leapt off the screen at you for a REASON! Everything DOES happen for a reason & in divine timing. If the hoof crack is really a huge concern, I understand, but it sounds like it will heal with proper care & time, so DO NOT let that interfere with this connection you're already feeling or this purchase! 💝 I IMMEDIATELY had the same SOUL reaction just from you telling us this story on TH-cam! Most importantly Matt, this HORSE has been waiting for a "Matt" human forever too. 🥲💝I KNOW the owners love the horse, take great care of him...but not at that same emotional connection level you are about to experience; not even close to the depth you will have as you grow older together and bond even more!! Horses are very sentient beings (as your horse communicator showed you --that was an amazing video btw!). So TRUST these inner/higher realm feelings or just "gut" sense! PLS if everything else is perfect w/the vet check & the hoof (or anything that the vet may find) that you KNOW is VERY treatable & not a complicated, high financial cost) DO NOT HESITATE with buying this horse. HE's YOUR HORSE MATT! The horse I feel/KNOW (yes I am a strong intuitive & huge animal lover- I'm being driven to AFFIRM what you are feeling! This the immediate Angel blessed reaction I got from hearing the story. The horse I believe has had 2 or 3 owners (remember they ARE SELLING the horse). He's feeling like he's just another horse among many in these last two he has been sad 😢 for awhile. He saw & understood this "dream" connection & relationship ( I believe at the previous owners) another horse had with their human! You've been very THOUGHT-full & you said you put it out into the universe, you DEFINITELY wanted a horse that you had a deeper, soulful connection, it's not just another purchase to you. AGAIN, HE wants/has been waiting years to be connected & loved in this way and will give as much love back, along with all the riding skills he has! He WANTS to SHINE for you, above and beyond. He'll be very excited when you get there, pls do not dwell in little things that CAN be fixed with care, love and training. He will ADJUST very quickly and well to his WHOLE new horse family as long as YOU explain your relationships with your other fur babies! Well ENJOY & remember every minute of this trip, that your heart has been guided on after 2-3 yrs! You have waited this long for a reason & already you feel so emotionally invested! Trust that, this is a start to a very long beautiful horse love story and bond. I pray you get this message! Love & light ✨🙏🏻💝...go get your horse Matt! 😁✌🏻

I say "BS" - that type of person is not a friend & I believe she only wanted this horse because you were so invested in this particular horse. The fact that she said he's a Bay & I really didn't want that... he'll never be her heart-horse. Really hoping he comes home to you, and - I would cut that false-friend out of my life. I was too kind & naive when younger & it's sad to learn that some people are just horrible. PS: I saved my OTTBs front hooves - instead of Farrier treatment of hardener ( it failed) I removed his shoes 😱 & filed everyday & then applied Farnam's "Rainmaker" moisturizer - from coronet band to his horribly chipped off tips. Farrier was stunned, 9 weeks later, shoes back on. I never stopped using Rainmaker after that & we never had another problem!

Also one question as I’m not a pro rider. Why do you keep buying more horses when you don’t compete or anything? It’s it better to focus on one horse only and put all energy and resources on one horse and compete with it and succeed ?
I’m only asking to know. No hate or judgement or anything.

I dont feel like the girl did anything wrong with seeing the horse first. I mean, she booked it before she knew you were interested. BUT her behaviour later on, and stringing you along? Thats just not okay. I hope this horse is everything you wanted!

Like you said, fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼 I really hope it works out for you, you seem so kind and honest. It looks like you needed to take that story of your chest, I hope it did you good. One can really feel your emotions and mindset through the video I think. Wish you luck, love and health for that horse 💙

Matt you are a nice person, a beautiful soul, I don't understand how a friend can play with your feelings like that. You sever all links with her because when trust is broken, sorry means nothing. And now, after all the doubts, the expectations, the disappointments, you will FINALLY have the pleasure of buying the horse of your dreams. He is waiting for you! Fingers crossed! 🤞🙏🍀💙

It will be if it was meant to be. I have no doubts. I'm 63 years old and this type of thing has happened to me more than once and it always works out the way it was meant to be. I can't wait to see the next video but whatever the outcome, your horse is out there somewhere.... never lose faith!

Hi Matt, I've been watching you for awhile. But I just popped on to go to one of my gratitude meditation videos as I start my day, but I paused immediately because I had this strong sense to watch this video! Soooo, yes, wow this story brings me to tears! THIS HORSE IS YOUR HORSE! You were a beautiful soul through that whole drama and yes, DIVINE INTERVENTION is at play here. You did do everything right on how you handled everything with that woman and your patience and kindness is finally being reward with "exactly" the horse you've been looking to have in your life!! Go from your soul instincts, just like you correctly & intuitively picked up on that lady's manipulation and enjoying the "game"--which also angers me she does that with people and it was horrible, and it is good that her energy is no longer around you! Her loss right, because you are SUCH a beautiful human being Matt! That immediate connection you had watching the very first video, TRUST THAT; and those "goosebumps" feeling you had, I call them "Godbumps", because it IS all being perfectly aligned and arranged for you by God/spirit/universe/higher source (whatever you may call it). Pls 🙏🏻 TRUST THAT immediate instictual & intuitive feeling you had; this horse leapt off the screen for a REASON! Everything DOES happen for a reason & in divine timing. If the hoof crack is really a huge concern, I understand but it sounds like it will heal with proper care & time, so DO NOT let that interfere with this connection you already have with the horse. This purchase for sure is from the heart and soul not your head! And most importantly you should know I immediately had the same intuitive reaction even from just your telling us this story! Most importantly above all else, this HORSE has been waiting for a "Matt" owner forever too!!! 🥲💝I know & feel the owners love the horse, they take great care of him...but not at that same emotional connection level, not even close to the depth that you will have as you grow older together and bond even more!! This horse/your horse wants this deeper connection too; they are very sentient beings (as your horse communicator showed you --that was an amazing video btw!). So TRUST these inner/higher realm feelings...your intuition or just "gut" sense! Again if everything else is perfect with the vet check and the hoof (or anything that the vet may find that you KNOW is VERY treatable and not a complicated, high financial cost) DO NOT HESITATE with buying this horse. HE's YOUR HORSE MATT! The horse I feel/KNOW (yes I am a strong intuitive & huge animal lover-- @beingme1 on IG & I will copy this & this on your IG acct as well...that's chow much I'm being driven to CONFIRM/AFFIRM what you are feeling! This the immediate Angel blessed reaction I got from hearing the full (well shortened drama version) story. The horse I believe has had 2 or 3 owners (remember they ARE SELLING the horse), again the current owners love and care for him but it is NOT the same as to what you are about to experience with this new horse love in your light. You've been THOUGHT-full and yourself you said you put it out there, that you definitely wanted a horse that you had a deeper, soulful connection, it's not just another purchase to you. And again, the horse IS WANTING/has been waiting for the SAME soulful connection with HIS HUMAN IN THIS LIFE! HE wants/has been waiting years to be loved in this way and give as much love back and all the other riding skills he will SHINE for you, above and beyond. He's feeling like he's just another horse among many in these last two stables/owners...but he has been sad 😢 for awhile after saw/understood this "dream" connection & relationship ( I believe at the previous owners...maybe this one) that this other horse had with their human/ owner! He will be very excited when you get there, please do not dwell in little things that CAN be fixed with time, love and training or care. Congratulations on finding you new love, horse to become part of your beautiful family of horses! Oh and he'll ADJUST very quickly and well to his new family! Ok well ENJOY every minute of this trip, your heart is being guided after 2-3 yrs, you wouldn't have waited this long & already feel so emotionally invested!! Trust that, this is a start to a very long beautiful love and bond. I do pray you get this message! Love & light ✨🙏🏻💝...go get your horse Matt! 😁✌🏻

I remember the bay that you liked that failed the vet check and a nice german lady finally bought him and you went to visit them. Thank God for that crack. Maybe this is the one. Everything happens for a reason. Look at the possitive side. She saved you 2000 euro in january.
