Been driving FSD beta since 2020. 12.3 has really made it happen in the last few weeks. It is phenomenal and I am very happy now. By the way, over the years, it has also saved me from two accidents on the freeway by seeing and avoid other bad drivers. The cameras see things before you can. Safety is first priority.

Agree. Awhile back I had to take the car keys away from my mom (in her 80's). If her car had FSD she could have kept her car for a few more years. Her only issue was a problem with her shoulder, otherwise she could have easily taken over on those few instances when FSD said "your turn".

So why imagine what Tesla has already imagined of having a fully self driving/autonomous car, and let’s be clear, this is where the technology is being driven by Tesla, because the other folks in the game like Cruise and WAYMO are really just a sideshow, at this point.
So my money is on Tesla for the win, and so not only will Tesla be the first to crack the conundrum of having a fully robotic self driving autonomous car, but they may be the only ones to achieve this, and were this to happen, then they would become the go to source, if you truly want your car to be a fully self driving capable autonomous car.
So think about it this way, not only will the car become the robot, which it is already, it’s just not very smart at the moment, but I don’t just think about it as just this one thing, the way I see it, as being applied over multiple applications of a generalized AI that has the capability to mirror human intelligence, because to my mind that’s exactly what it’s going to take for this to truly be an autonomous self driving car, which is different from just having a full self driving car, as an autonomous self driving car, must never need any human intervention in order to do the one thing that it must do consistently, and without fail, all the time, and that is to be able to navigate in and out of any situation, and safely deliver its cargo/passengers to wherever its directed to go.
So we’re talking about something that is as revolutionary, as the discovery of the wheel, fire, explosives, electricity and quantum computers, etc. I mean this is a huge deal, and people should be frightened, but also excited about the possibilities of what this could mean in terms of doing things that we’ve never been able to do before, for example, the expiration of planets, where no humans has ever gone before, and so before humans ever set foot on any planet, other than earth, humanoid robots, will prove to be the tool that will be needed to succeed in actually landing on the red planet, before any humans are sent there, something that Elon Musk is acutely aware of, even though he hasn’t spoken about it, but he knows that developing the Optimus robot is an important key to realizing the ultimate dream of being able to become an interplanetary species which he’s has talked about ad nauseam. Cheers 🥂

The point is, eventually he will be able to have robots tending to his needs and taking him out to the car that will drive him someplace and then the robot can help him out and place him in his wheel chair to navigate anywhere he wants etc. As he says, he can see a time coming when he doesn't need 24 x 7 care basically and be really independent. I have a use case for having cameras near the front bumper. I have a T-jinction near my home where the street I have to make a left on is busy, and there is a house jutting out obstructing view of oncoming traffing from left that the car needs to creep out way beyond the stop sign in order to see with the B-pillar camera. There have been many instances where the car started to enter the intersection and I had to brake to disengage FSD as there were cars coming from the left. I do not feel safe and disengage FSD most times at thsi intersection. The car does creep forward a lot, and then it blocks the left turn for any cars trying to come from the right side.

When Ford (and all the others) announced they were adopting the NACS, they aren’t able to update the ports for about 2 years or more. Now that FSD is proving itself, they need to jump in as soon as possible so they can begin the long, difficult process of updating their vehicles for the FSD hardware. 3-4 years to get that done? Ford will be first again but just like Volvo’s seat belts, Tesla’s FSD will become a standard feature in all cars eventually. In the meantime, vehicles that have it will have massive sales appeal compared to those that don’t. Anybody who thinks their 4-5 year old Tesla’s have dropped in value too much should brace themselves for an uptick here too. Bravo Tesla. Now you just need to come up with some various pricing models/levels.

Thanks Farzad, great presentation as usual. If 12.4 is going to park itself and include A.S.S., that is already completely unsupervised, level 4 driving. So if your car causes an accident in the parking lot, is Tesla assuming liability? And if Tesla is comfortable taking on that liability in parking lots, why wouldn't they extend that liability to the streets? Regarding parking lots vs. roadways, parking lots are private property but are generally considered "premises open to the public", which allows for enforcement of most traffic laws, different from for example driving around on your own private ranch.

Everyone watching this channel or FSD channels is in a bubble. We are technolphiles. Normal people, like my wife could care less about it until it can actual drive like a human in traffic and not annoy other humans. That means reaction times, pulling out with assertiveness and going.

The camera position question is not about seeing a bit farther to the side in normal conditions. But if you are trying to see around a parked truck or a bush that needs pruning, you might have to put the nose of your car out in traffic to see, and you often can't improve your view any by leaning forward. You COULD see if you opened the door, got out, and walked up to the front bumper, of course. If a side-looking camera was included in the headlight unit, it could see what's coming from the side without you having to pull forward into danger. There is a part of the car that far forward; let's use it.

  • @geniegogo
    @geniegogo หลายเดือนก่อน

tick rate - the first use is driving long distance... so that you don't get exhausted doing that drive. The current version is good enough for this, you don't have to be exhausted anymore for paying attention for a multiple hour drive. This is basically highway mode. When it goes to level 3 then you can let the car drive you to work and to the store which is basically all cases almost.
From Farzad's description... you can be a really bad driver... technically because you offload almost all driving then you lose all that driving experience and therefore as a driver in a level 3 car... when it asks you to take over, all you have to do is pull over and wait for the system to be able to take over driving again. Effectively, since the car can drive 99% of all conditions... that last 1% where you're asked to take over - it doesn't mean you'll do better than the car driving itself, it's just who is responsible driving in those conditions. When thinking about it, if it's easy driving conditions then the car can do it. At that point, new drivers only need to learn what to do in that 1% situation when the car doesn't want to take responsibility for the drive. I think this issue sorts itself out. In that situation the new driver or bad driver can just quit too, it can be considered like getting a flat tire and that your car is disabled and you can no longer get to your destination. Remember the system is a better driver than you are at this point - maybe all you need to do to take over is drive 20 feet and then the car says okay it can take over again. Yeah, what conditions does it have to be for the system to say that it can't do it and you have to take over? If the conditions are that bad, why would you drive yourself?

Given that this is beta software, drivers need assurance that it’s safe to proceed, even if they might need to intervene and hit the brakes if necessary.

You can do that. I subscribe and canceled after a recent surgery since I couldn't drive for close to a month. Turned it back on and got 12.3 last weekend. It's AMAZING. Not perfect yet but extremely smooth. 11.4 I never used off highway. 12.3 I use for every drive now. Worst thing is it's hesitant(cautious) at stop signs. Not a bad thing but drivers behind me have zero patience for this so I usually push the accelerator through those situations.

I just tested the new version 12.3 full self-driving today and it still isn't perfect, but it is noticeably better and now the car will veer slightly away from oncoming traffic to make it safer, however the car still cuts too close to centerline around sharp curves sometimes. The car still also makes left turns too slowly in front of oncoming traffic.

Try this as a passenger, never the driver. Cover one eye. When you get to a stop sign at a busy street watch the cars coming from the left. Try to judge how fast they’re coming. No moving your head. It’s harder than it sounds. Now try it again moving your head just a little. Huge difference. The cameras have a similar issue. Creeping forward is on par with moving your head.

I've been saying that about FSD level 3 for years now - the take rate will only improve once it and regulators approve non-supervision versions of FSD. How they get there is of great concern - the regulators appear to be taking a step back, more in the role of neutral observer, except when blatant corporate bias was revealed in its continuing negative attacks on Tesla in the form of opening several trust cases against Elon-related companies across the spectrum of segments, which ironically, only made it seem more targeted.

17:32 I think there is no other way around it: the time for the FSD came, the responsibility is still on the driver, as no company can afford to pay for damages in such situation - yet without this step it wouldn't be possible at all. If people are willing to help by being part of this experiment, this is the way. It cannot be argued that without that system, there wouldn't be any accidents; the proof of FSD being the correct step for humanity is the statistics of its accident rate against the human drivers.

This is not so much about increasing FSD take rate, it's to make the potential Tesla buyer understand that in the 'near' future this car will be capable to drive itself vs all other cars who aren't even equipped to do that. This is another lever to make people buy a Tesla.

If Tesla is giving everyone a free trial with their FSD software & people love it, think of how many people will end up buying that? Then think of all the data they will collect from these people & determine their level of competence with the software & the car for insurance purposes & the free advertising they will get with this promotion which really doesn't cost them anything. It's another brilliant idea from Elon who is light years ahead of people like Black & Gerber who push for traditional advertising. Unbelievably great idea.

This FSD will revolutionize the electric semi-driving for Tesla. While it may make the haul little slower than a trucker while driving (minimally), it will go a lot further in 24 hours (assuming long haul) because truckers are limited to 11 hours of driving now. If driverless can drive for 18 to 20 hours of a 24 hour span while the trucker himself may be in the cab doing something else or sleeping or whatever (for the first 5 years or so of this) then the trucker can get way more miles in and the shipping company can get a lot more done hauling loads. Of course, a massive infrastructure will need to be built for charging which is going to be a huge challenge, BUT, FSD will be a monster for electric semis for Tesla. ZERO need for any driver interaction until they get to a charging stop or delivery or pickup! It's going to be crazy for long haul commercial use in so many ways, but also for private as well with driverless taxis etc

I believe that Tesla should lower the prices for FSD. Even though the service, even in beta form, is arguably easily worth the price Tesla is charging, both the flat car rate and the subscription, a lower price would encourage quicker adoption.
