I get you. i so psychotically love this song. maybe it's just how my brain works, but i tend to be able to pick up the order and symmetry in the chaos. I can pick out individual instruments and tones in this song, and can see how they fit despite how they seem to screw things around ROFL.
I've been feeling this BOP from the first time I saw the MV. May be it was overwhelming the 1st time I saw it along with the MV, but it was my style and I kept replaying it till date :)
Most people when they don’t like a song just say the song is trash. Looks like people can’t have their own opinion and taste nowadays cause it is called straight trash. I loved the song even though it is different to the kpop “normal mainstream” songs (mostly this is why people don’t like it)
If you almost crashed, then it shouldn't be your go to driving song.

Fun fact : Zimzalabim was supposed to be released few years ago but Lee Sooman (SM's producer) said that Red Velvet didn't ready yet to carry the song so it was getting postponed until this year. Lee Sooman finally approved the girls' abilities to bring out the unique texture of this song. I mean if not RV, who else can carry a song like this? I know it's not charting as good as their past songs but Zimzalabim is awesome, at least for me lol (Yes, I have unique music preference when it comes to Red Velvet)
I could not have said it better. Crazy unique is RVs style its why I love them and their former labelmates fx. No one is ever prepared for what they come out with.

The original producer's of the song made this song for Girls Generation after IGAB. They talk about it and Red Velvets execution of the song on Eric Nam's Podcast "K-Pop Daebak W/Eric Nam" episode name is "Behind The Song: Red Velvets "Zimzalabim" W/Caesar & Loui"

The fact that MANY dislike this song proves the point that Kpop fans are accustomed to a particular sound and concept for e.g either cute concept or girl crush concept. The same goes for the sound. Red velvet is the only kpop girlgroup that I know who NEVER repeats what they've already done before, even if one concept has been extremely successful(bad boy), they won't repeat it. Respect to them for choosing to try and put out different sides of music everytime they comeback. That's why Red Velvet is my favourite kpop girlgroup. You will never get bored of them. Moreover, their bsides are heavenly good.

I liked zimzalabim from the 1st listen.. Maybe I'm weird but this is the most outstanding song this year. While most ggs went with girl crush which became the most safest trend these days red Velvet came back with zzb. They don't follow the trend they set it

I appreciate the Kpop songs that do this stuff. They may not always end up being my favorite songs but I like that they’re willing to take risks and do some creative stuff to keep it fresh and experiment to see what can work. I’d rather a genre always keeps me at the edge of my seat with excitement rather than comfortably laying back every song knowing what’s coming every time.

As a classical composer who also had a lot of feelings after first listening to the song, I'd actually be really curious to see what people thing after letting the song sit with them for a bit - my thoughts after 3rd or 4th listen were a lot different from 1st
ibrahim i agree w this, i'm really interested as well. when i first listened to the song i couldn't find anyway to like it, but then after a while i found myself listening to it on repeat.
I've found that most of Red Velvet's songs rarely hit you on first listen.

Like others who’ve responded, I’ve had the same reaction to several RV tracks that I grew to admire and love only after they settled in and I could listen more analytically. And Zimzalabim is certainly among them.

This is so true! I understand how many reactors feel the need to pause the MVs now in order to avoid having their video blocked by TH-cam. But it certainly is annoying to have a piece of music interrupted so often.

To me that's one of the most appealing things about RVs music. Even songs of theirs that could easily be bland become really great because of those addicting layered vocals and tight production. Like can you imagine a random solo artist performing Russian Roulette? I don't care how good your voice is; it couldn't hold a candle to the RV version. Those smooth layered vocals just carry it.
Editing in the part they're referring to behind them while they're talking about it is pretty great.

As some of the reactors mentioned, the song had its energetic moments and slower moments. The creators could have made it like that to imitate a rollercoaster (since there were rollercoasters in the mv)

Zimzalabim song is one song I couldn't get with for the first time when I heard but I gave it a second chance and then I started screaming zimzalabim ,it's really good experiment with vocals of different range and that music is really hypnotic
This was really cathartic. There’s this video I like about why it’s hard to remember what happens in the Transformers movies, because every single frame is demanding that you pay attention to it instead of being in service to telling a story, your brain overloads and just stops absorbing information. That is Zimzalabim for me. I remember y’all putting out a vid called “Why Zimzalabim Works” and I can’t any other songs that needed an in-depth explanation of why it technically constitutes a *song* instead of a bunch of cool elements that fight each other for your attention. This song got me all excited when it was first released I love this song and RED VELVET.
There's always something to discuss about red velvet songs, I don't particularly 'stan' red velvet but i love watching musicians react to their songs because it's so interesting.
I CLICKED THIS AS FAST AS I COULD✨
When it was released, I didn't hate it but I didn't like it either. I thought the chorus was lacking. The only part that I liked was the bridge and onwards. A few months later, after not hearing it for a while, I began to long for it and it grew on me. Now I keep on listening, singing, and jamming to it together with Psycho like it's my anthem.
i know most of them enjoyed/appreciated the song but honestly give them all a few more listens and they will be in love with it PERIOD

I literally HATED it in the beginning but after a month when I listened to it again and again it became one of my favs from them. It's so fun and interesting for my ears, this song is the one that made me love their more crazy and experimental songs and opened the doors for experimental kpop songs in general for me.
