So true. They didn't mind if what they're doing right now is not for "general". Cause the way I see it, this is what kpop will sound for the next years. Blueprint indeed.
Totally agree with Kevin. RV’s songs always have been somewhere between attractive melodic aspects and weird absurd harmonic aspects. Some songs like bad boy or psycho were perfect but some were like crazy psychic sounds like they lost their real identity which is that they are ‘songs’. This one def. has the musical core.
I feel like kevin said that mostly because he prefers bubble gum pop music. And fmr melody is quiet easy and familiar to follow, though the instruments is bizarre as always. It's RV anyway. So i totally disagree when only fmr has its music core.
The fact that this song doesn't fit on the popular kpop stans because is not a repetitive chorus with real catchy lyrics saying nothing lol 😭 red velvet have a complete variety of music genres and rhythms in their music but this comeback is another type of this, very interesting and feels like heaven to me.

it's awesomeee really how rv can give that kind of concept without any talking, like listen to our music, this is how everything works.. this concept is not something simple.
What I love about SM Entertainment's girl groups is that their versatility is at the highest level than other kpop groups. They are not afraid to try different concepts hence, they were always willing to come out of their comfort zones to make high quality music. And this song made me stan Red Velvet (was only a casual listener of Red Velvet at first) I hope that it is not too late to stan them and will continue to make good music. I was able to hear them perform Feel My Rhythm live and it was breath-taking.
When we say Red Velvet is in their own lane, THIS is what we mean. This song is such a welcome beginning to spring. I love how it reminds me of Hello Future (Hello Baroque period), and how it’s elegant and pops hard at the same time. Two critiques: 1. I wish the song had a beautiful outro to tie everything together. The key change is amazing but it’s so short. 2. I wish this era lasted longer, rip 💀 Need an orchestral version asap‼️‼️‼️
@@angelwearsprada2990 Red Velvet deserved as much as (G)I-dle, but that doesn't mean you undermine the latter's efforts. They were gone for a year and they worked hard for it. Red Velvet has always been experimental in the best ways. Love that they don’t sound like any other girl groups out there, including themselves in previous releases. They have the best discography IMO.

My most awaited reaction video! It's interesting how you explain some of the part of the song. It made me appreciate the song more. I didn't even know about the title, that's brilliant!
it's always so fun to be a red velvet fan, you never really know what they're going to give you next, but you know it's going to have that signature unique classiness. too often in modern kpop do companies try to make their artists' songs so different that it just ends up sounding like random samples thrown together. with red velvet, it's always unique, but incredibly polished
When SM teased us that it’ll be using Bach’s piece for the song all that came to my mind is that “ReacttotheK” must react to this. Welp! Glad you like it. Because I loved it a lot
I agree with Rachel that Feel My Rhythm is an instant favorite right out of the gate. It takes me a while to form an opinion on most of RV's songs, but this and Psycho are maybe the only two I didn't need even a second listen to fall in love with. As of right now, Feel My Rhythm is a Top Five RV song for sure.
I’m literally so obsessed with this song, the more I listen to it the more addicted I get. It’s so fun and doesn’t get boring so easily bc there‘s constantly new things added
I think this is the best song of RV and one of the most interesting songs that SM has made for their artist. It’s gorgeous and mood-lifting. Thanks to your reaction showing us what’s cool in the song that I can’t explain
i might understood like 10% of everything they said but its really cool how everyone in this video is so passionate about music :) i too wanna learn music theory now
I have been waiting for this fr.. like, everyday I'd checked ur channel just to see if u already reacted to this. Y'all out of all the people who reacted to red velvet has the most genuine reaction to this song. Tbh, i really love this song and this mini album. I just hope that others also sees and hear how this mini album is a true gem. I'll be waiting for the whole mini album review tho.
Same, Kevin and Rachel! I loved it so much from the first listen too! I was so into their reaction that I felt the video ended so quickly. Didn't even feel like 22 minutes. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece 😭🤌
Nothing beats the energy it radiates when people talks about their passion. And this reaction was a great combo esp bc u guys actually have the knowledge about all these originals musics they use to create this song. Awesomeness
first time i heard this song, my reaction was simply "this is genius" and i need validation from this channel. indeed now confirmed this is red velvet most genius song after psycho for me.
I always says Seulgi’s voice will fit the classical or orchestra kind of music and now they said it fit perfectly at her voice in the intro. I sure this song is the geniuses art of 2022 🙌
21:22 with this song it proves again how SM Entertainment Production Team (in music) is really on another level. Like If they do the production of their songs, It's already perfect but if there is greater than "perfect", they do it! Reallyy kudos to the A&R and Producers of SM Ent 👏🏼👏🏼
the reason why SM is still leading as a company who focus and smart to creat a music not only music that anyone want to listen, but make anyone know how make music unlimited.
AIr on G String is my favorite classical music. There's just something so hauntingly beautiful about it that's just so sooo good. Having Red Velvet sampling Air so faithfully and expertly is just 😭😭 what a title track, such an excellent piece!
When I first heard this song I was so confused prolly bc I felt that the mv is a bit overwhelming. Then they dropped the performance video and I was more confused bc the straight forward visual of the perf vid made me see the song on a different light, which I didn't expect. It's like I finally understand classical and Kpop. 13:53 I just realized that this part prolly explained why I felt confused at my first listen. Like the music and the visual is clashing. But thanks to the performance vid I understood it and FMR immediately rose to my no. 1 fave song in the album
This is one of the best Redvelvet title songs. It's so experimental yet so pleasing. I really love how they calmly started with Bach's Air On G string and then suddenly hit us with those trap beats. This is insane. I wouldn't say that the chorus is happy. It's so overwhelming like how you are touched when springtime overwhelmed all your senses. It feels so nostalgic and joyful that you might shed some tears. I kind of found this interesting with the bridge. I thought the bridge was over with Seulgi's part but they continued with Joy. Wendy, Yeri, and Seulgi's bridge part felt like some deep, dark struggle leading onto a joyful Joy bridge. This deserved more wins but it's okay as long as there are people who appreciate Redvelvet's essence. Also, they confirmed that there is going to be a trilogy this time. Let's enjoy the future comebacks too.
"That chorus is *gorgeous!!* " YESSS😭❤ this is probably one of my most favorite red velvet songs ever and quite possible one of my most favorite kpop songs ever I'm just so obsessedly in love with this song
15:18 my favorite part. It's so funny yet cute when musicians try to explain their favorite thing in the song. Like Many people won't understand the eargasm the musicians get
Never in my life feeling a 20 minutes video was so short. When i listened to the track, i thought Bach’s sample had something to do with the chorus but my music knowledge couldnt let me to break it down. But thanks to Kevin to explain it so simple that now I can understand how the producers made it. The song was so awesome and I am thankful that many people appriciated this. I hope SM keep up with their wonderful works. Btw the reaction to the birds and how Seulgi ate the strawberry were so funny 🤣
In terms of mixing classical music and contemporary K-pop, it's quiet interesting to see how K-pop has evolved since I-Yah(1999, by H.O.T.), which you reacted weeks ago.
I loved the song at the first listening but I don't study music, I just went with the "feelings part", and it was goosebumps all over my body haha So nice to have this kind of reaction, this channel is so special! Love you guys, thank youu! -from a Brazilian fan ♡
I'm not musician, but talking about my experience for first listen it may abit distracted by the Bach's sample when I'm too used to it, even so the whole song is really good and I do like the melody. But after several listens, I'm completely love with the song and the more details I catch through the listen, the more I get amazed by the producer of the song for such genius production, and I have waited until today just to watch this reaction and analysis, and I'm happy for the knowledge gained watching the whole video.
I'm exactly like you. I hated the song when I first heard it. I think the classical music that they sampled doesn't match well with the song. Now, I couldn't even get this song out of my head. And I dare to say that this is the best Red Velvet song ever.
@@RoyMcAvoy For me it didn't sound weird and I didn't hate it in the first listen because the melody is still gorgeous 😂 It's my brain cells being confused and yet to pick up everything when they just caught the Bach sample mostly in the first listen
Ohhhh now i know why red velvet says they travel through time and space. They literally said the definition of Rhythm in music I thought they says that for concept. And woooow thank you reacttothek for this Feel My Rhythm is super detailed. The matching of lyrics to the sound wow. I learned something in classical/music. Ive waited for this
20:52 Point to discuss: Is it really surprising that Bach's music sounds so good despite its "restrictions"? Or are the "rules" just result of what actually sounds good and emotional, and thus not restrictive at all? I do see that some of Bach's works can be extremely "restrictive" or "constructed" (like Goldberg variations), and they still are full of creativity. So are restrictions really a deterrent of inspiration and emotion? Or do the restrictions just provide a framework in which a composer can design a very inspired piece? Many "rules" in music are, in my opinion, just whatever works well, from form and structure (how boring and uninspired does the idea of a canon sound, the same thing twice, lol?) to harmony. In some way (and to bring it back to the K) even 'Feel My Rhythm' is a product of restrictions imposed by the concept of sampling 'Air', but the restrictions are perhaps one of the reasons this song is so inspired and works so well (in my opinion ;D). So perhaps restrictions might even be a source of inspiration and emotion? Would love to hear anyone's thoughts!
Love the point you make here about restrictions. I'm one who thinks that sometimes even more inspired and creative art comes out of restrictions when a breakthrough is achieved within the fixed set of boundaries. It's even more amazing precisely because of the expansion within and beyond the limitations.
These are definitely interesting things to discuss! I wouldn’t say that the rules resulted from what “actually sounds good and emotional” though. I feel like that discounts entire genres and periods of music that completely venture outside of these restrictions of “perfect” counterpoint and voice leading (impressionism, neo-classicism, “power chords” in hard rock/metal, most melodic writing in solo marimba and percussion ensemble literature, etc.), all of which have just as much potential to be emotionally impactful and pleasing to listen to. Again, that’s all subjective. People are moved differently by different music of course! I agree that working within set restrictions can be extremely fulfilling and even inspire greater creativity than just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. That’s a great point! I think part of what makes Bach work so well in this specific context is the concreteness of the harmonic structure, and how easy it is to run wild with new compositional and production techniques over this framework.
@@liammcmanus7502 Ooh, hi Liam! I see what you mean, and at no point was I trying to claim that only music following perfect counterpoint can sound great. Listening to Renaissance music, there is a lot of voice leading that seems very questionable to our modern ear, but the music still sounds beautiful and at times wonderfully floaty. However, I still think that 'the rules' result from what sounds good, though maybe I should specify that the rules found in the Baroque period were just one and not the only way of how to sound good, and that the rules arose specifically in a context of polyphonic music and the instruments available at the time. For example, I do actually think that parallel power chords don't sound nearly as cool on a typical harpsichord as they do on a guitar with a ton of overdrive. So a composer trying to write a piece for four independent voices would naturally refrain from the 'forbidden' parallels because voices would mesh and they would just loose tension and, basically, one of the voices. My knowledge of music is quite limited, and my perception of what is important in music might very well be a somewhat one-dimensional product of listening only to western classical, jazz, etc, and even there usually in a bubble of a few composers/artists. I can't claim to have listened to a single piece written for solo marimba (sorry, recommendations are welcome though). [Edit: Just checked out your channel. Source for marimba music found ;D] It would probably be a different question to discuss how 'good' or important certain sets of rules in music are (and for what), or even if there is such a thing as objective quality to music. And that might also lead to quite philosophical and biological questions, like if aliens would understand our music as such or just hear noise etc... Getting existential. xD Well, I hope that made some sense, thank you very much for your thoughts and for your reactions! :)
I love how exciting ALL the musicians are in this video. I know this masterpiece woked them up fr, and I am so thankful they gave us A LOT of dissecting and conversation.
I literally cried when the first time I heard this song but idk how to explain.. now if someone asked me again why I'm crying over listening to this song I'll just give this reaction video to them. I still cry pretty much every time I hear this song which is starting to get annoying. 😆 They kept talking about my favorite parts in the reaction, talking about how beautiful they were and yeah I'm just sitting here wiping away tears again. I think my head exploded first time I heard this song. Completely gobsmacked. And that's not even getting into all the art references and outfits !
This is actually my most anticipated reaction. I waited for so long and at last!!!! Thank you for recting hehehe. I don't really know much about notes and instruments but I enjoy watching your videos and sharing your views about the song.
When you look at the details, you'll see how complex and interesting Feel My Rhythm is. There's Classical Music, Ballet, Theater, Painting, etc. in this one music video that is to fit the modern times and KPOP. GENIUS & PERFECTLY RIGHT FOR RED VELVET as they are the most experimental group ever imo. They nailed it! 🤯🤯🤯
Yass I really needed this, i knew the piece was super properly sampled and respected the counterpoints, but your comments always go beyond Edit. So it is a key change, i thought it came back to the Db
Bridge starts prolonging vi of Db (not a complete key change but the harmony/color changes a lot), and then Joy's 2nd half of the bridge goes back to Db as the tonal center, and then the final chorus goes up to Eb! :)

So i totally disagree when only fmr has its music core.
their real identity is the fact all their songs sound different
thats literally just preference. Just because certain music isnt appealing to you doesnt mean they "lost their real identity"

The fact that this song doesn't fit on the popular kpop stans because is not a repetitive chorus with real catchy lyrics saying nothing lol 😭 red velvet have a complete variety of music genres and rhythms in their music but this comeback is another type of this, very interesting and feels like heaven to me.

I think that SM's success with "weird kpop" is that no matter how much a song changes it is still cohesive from second one.

Two critiques:
1. I wish the song had a beautiful outro to tie everything together. The key change is amazing but it’s so short.
2. I wish this era lasted longer, rip 💀
Need an orchestral version asap‼️‼️‼️

it's always so fun to be a red velvet fan, you never really know what they're going to give you next, but you know it's going to have that signature unique classiness. too often in modern kpop do companies try to make their artists' songs so different that it just ends up sounding like random samples thrown together. with red velvet, it's always unique, but incredibly polished

It's the main motif of Air on the G String.

20:52 Point to discuss:
Is it really surprising that Bach's music sounds so good despite its "restrictions"?
@@popkmacnaf Definitely!
Absolutely, the "rules" provide a framework for creativity and enjoyment. Like the many forms of poetry (for example, a haiku).
Source for marimba music found ;D]
It would probably be a different question to discuss how 'good' or important certain sets of rules in music are (and for what), or even if there is such a thing as objective quality to music. And that might also lead to quite philosophical and biological questions, like if aliens would understand our music as such or just hear noise etc... Getting existential. xD
Well, I hope that made some sense, thank you very much for your thoughts and for your reactions! :)
