It is a super idea to make one's own survival buckets. Comments on yours: the oatmeal is great for breakfast, but I would add raisens (iron and natural sweetness) and walnuts (great Omegas and protein) versus peanuts. So maybe half as many peanuts (for main meals) and half that many walnuts (for breakfasts). Also for breakfasts, 1 tablespoon of powdered milk per breakfast, to be mixed with 4 oz water for the oatmeal. I also add cinnamon to my oatmeal; cinnamon lowers blood pressure and has a feel-good component. Crisco: not at all a healthy fat; I would sub a jar of coconut oil (which is solid at room temp). The sardines are stellar, but there needs to be an additional source of protein -- for one month I would buy a large can of dehydrated beef chunks. With the bullion cubes and some cornstarch to make gravy, the hot beef and gravy could be eaten on rice or mixed with beans to make chili. For the sake of flavour, I would include in each bucket: cinnamon, chili powder, red pepper flakes, salt (of course), and any other spices you like to cook with. These take up very little room and can be tucked in around other packets. You didn't mention beverages; I'm a tea drinker so I would include 30 tea bags. Coffee drinkers could add those single serve packets of Folgers. Finally, if there's room in the bucket I would add some powdered eggs to change up breakfast occasionally, and a packet of dried fruit such as apricots or apples. The dried fruit can be reconsituted with a little boiling water and add some cnnamon, or just eaten as is. You hit on an important point when you said that although you survived, you were not very happy psychologically. Food plays a huge role in our overall comfort, so it's worth adding "mouth-happy" items like the spices and drinks and fruit. Also a good thing to have in your bug-out stash is a book on edible greens and roots in your area; greens are important in one's diet. Even in winter, one can dig cattail roots and possibly find wild wintergreen berries and other goodies. BTW, you are a good-looking guy! Just had to note that ;-) Good luck with your channel going forward!

Mine had a jar of honey, a jar of maple syrup (the real stuff), peanut butter, some walnuts, a couple of small jars of jam, freeze dried bananas and berries, ghee, trail mix that also has m&ms, (yes the chocolate did melt, but it turned out fine) tortillas, oatmeal, powdered eggs and shredded potatoes (plus cocoa, milk, coffee and both herbal and green tea) rice, noodles, jerky, pepperoni, summer sausage, dehydrated veggies and mushrooms, bullion, beans, some cans of spicy oysters in oil, herbs and seasonings (and some little taco sauce packets)
(The dehydrated veggies, rice, seasonings, egg powder, jerky and ghee worked out to a nice fried rice)
Also to be fair this was set for two people not just one.

@@offgridDAVID , if you get some kopiko instant coffee packets they have coffee, creamer and sugar in them. (I add a packet of cocoa to two of those and I end up with a 32 oz coffee that is about 310 calories.)
I also sometimes add a pinch of cinnamon or pumpkin spice mix.
      Definitely a moral booster.
Speaking from experience part of why you were feeling grumpy was probably two fold, you were not getting the right nutrients or enough of them and you were not getting enough calories for a man of your size. (And you didn't have herbs and spices to switch up the flavors. Getting just one thing for every meal is daunting, but you can work with the same ingredients and still get different flavors.)

I am a prepper because I love life and I do not want to be away from the things I love. I am a total believer in food, shelter, energy, and transportation secure. I am also a proponent of make your own, grow your own. In Canada I moved to New Brunswick I moved here because property and taxes are cheap. I purchased a 5000 sq. ft. home with 7 bedrooms and 5 acres of land for $72,000 . That may sound huge for a prepper but I believe that when the flood gates open that thousands will be searching and that in this I may be able to help out a few, with the house offering a refuge while they build a cabin on the land. Parallel Society is here and now, soon our world will be reduced small communities doing commerce together.

I would love to do that NOW! I would totally come now and start working on getting a part time job so can afford to buy some things till I no longer can (I want no part of digital ID or CBDC) and start building a coop and a tiny house!! I would bring my chickens...we would have eggs!
I grew up in the country but have never been able to afford some land in my adult life. And Im really really feeling it now....as in get to some as fast as I can! Have been thinking, maybe ppl who can't afford land alone should pitch in and go together to get some land to share. Share the cost, skills, gardening, food, taxes, etc..... I agree, parallel societies should be starting now!! If nothing else, communities of like minded ppl that you trust to watch out for and take care of each other and your preps. I dont even have that. I live in a town that Im not from and I dont know many ppl bc Ive spent most of my time working (nights) and driving an hr to and from.....

Great video...keep in mind that the body loves fasting. I do and the first time I did I went 30 days no problem. The first week was challenging but the rest of the time flew. Regarding food, only 1 meal is necessary in the early evening, plus if you should fast, it is important to gradually return to normal eating habits.

Great video. Far better off with a home-made bucket since you can tailor to the foods you like, in addition to saving lots of money. A few suggestions: Condensed milk was actually invented as a military ration and that little can probably has half your caloric needs for a day. I would include a P38 can opener as redundancy for any other food you may store at your location. Everything I store gets matches or a Bic lighter.

Cool vid, I enjoyed seeing a different approach from mine. My buckets are divided--rice in one, beans in another, etc. More like the deep pantry than for only survival. That does help me rotate through them, though. For buckets like yours I'd throw in a bottle of soy sauce and some plain sugar. Sugar plus salt in water makes a very basic rehydrating fluid if you get sick, which is always possible (Murphy's Law) in a survival situation. Also sugar + soy sauce + peanuts + rice ( and red pepper and powdered ginger) at least doesn't taste like straight peanuts. In the states you can get free food grade buckets with good lids at some bakeries if you ask.

That might be a great idea for sorting out your preps to see how much you have and how long you will last. Make a bucket for each person in your family, fill it full of preps (enough for a month), tip it out and then refill another month, etc. That way you'll know exactly how long it will last. Brilliant idea brother, I'm so glad that I watched this.

I'm a single older female living in Australia.
I have been dehydrating cooked chicken and frozen mixed veggies. When done I divide into meal size pop in mylar bags with a packet of either chicken noodle soup mix or French onion soup mix then seal up with a oxygen absorber.
I also dehydrate slices citrus and bag up in small portions, same as eggs dehydrated and powdered up. I also dehydrate cooked ground beef unflavored so can add whatever flavourings I feel like. Dehydrated coleslaw rehydrates really good with just water.
The above takes up little room in small mylar bags and breaks up food boredom. Quick rice and pasta is also great to have if water is an issue or you don't want to waste time cooking from scratch.

Lastly, if room allows, some fire starter tools. I personally would include water purification tablets and a top-quality water filter. As mentioned above, I agree some spices should help and a simple deck of cards.

Good vid. Be careful when quoting calories when beans are involved. Many companies quote on the label the “dry” amount of calories. The SPC servings per container calorie count is the number we need to look for. Beans blow up 3x and rice blows up 2x. Rice and beans take up about 75 cups per 5 gal. So rice would be 150 cups cooked and beans would be around 225 cups cooked.

Great video. I prep for various reasons from most likely to happen to maybe least. In the Midwest of USA, weather can impact regular life easily and quickly but under normal rule of law situations we might be inconvenienced for a few days. The one that I am always adding and adapting for is civil unrest because that can cause shelves to become empty, dangerous to be out in public, and overwhelm the first responders and hospitals and possibly affect the grid and communications. In that situation, we are, for the most part, on our own until order is restored....if it is.

I think one thing a lot of preppers sort of overlook especially when first starting out is the ultimate purpose of their stockpile. Bug out food stores are a totally different beast than at home stores are because weight & space are vital to one & not such a big deal to the other. While I have some buckets & totes ready for a grab & go situation the vast majority of my food preps are for use at home. In terms of long term, not rotating or using it, stores I have buckets of white rice & beans, a few overpriced survival meal buckets, & a number of #10 cans of freeze-dried meats & a few veggies. I have a lot of powdered things like milk, eggs, butter, sour cream, cheeses, maple sugar, honey, etc. Buckets of salt, sugar, wheat, oatmeal, & pasta. We don't use that stuff. It's strictly there for an emergency. Everything else is stuff we eat on a regular basis, but I have a lot of it & we rotate & replace it as it's used. We only stockpile what we eat & really it takes little to keep 12 cans of diced tomatoes rather than 2 or 24 rolls of toilet paper rather than 4. When our state finally decided to encourage people to stay home during Covid my husband called home from work all stressed out asking what he needed to pick up on the way home. It was a great feeling to be able to tell him "Nothing just gas up the truck & come home." We made it through the insanity of the pandemic without ever having to go to a store for anything other than to refill a prescription & the only time we dipped into our long-term storage stuff was to open one container of powdered milk. Covid was a wakeup call for a lot of people & for me it was a test run that showed me a lot of things I had right & a few things I needed to add to my preps like keeping more canned & dehydrated fruits on hand. We didn't need it to survive but quickly discovered that in a stressful situation something to snack on is a huge moral boost. I like your one man/one month bucket idea a lot. I'd suggest stuffing a few Ziploc bags in there & maybe some seasonings even if it's nothing but salt & pepper. Bland food is just depressing & while most herbs & spices will lose their potency over time, they don't go bad if stored properly. For my bug out food containers I cut up a mylar bag to make little spice packets & shoved them into the voids between items because while it's all about surviving I see no reason to be miserable doing it if I can help it. 😁

Pure maple syrup dried raisins & chia seeds are good to add to oatmeal. Keep seasonings basic sea salt, pepper, garlic. Coconut aminos or soy sauce for rice. Dehydrated veggies. Dehydrated eggs stored in mylar bags with oxygen absorber. Canned meats are easy to heat up and canned beans. A multivitamin is good to keep up your health and vitamin c emergen c packs & raw honey. Good test. During WW2 when there were meat shortages, Lentils became the main protein source, I make Lentils & Rice and can have a meal of that everyday for a month with 4lbs Lentils + 4lbs Long Grain Rice. To make a single serving of Lentils & Rice, presoak 1/4 cup Lentils for 3 hours, put drained Lentils in pot + 1/4 cup Rice + salt + 10oz water, boil 8 minutes, put on low for 20 minutes, mostly carbs & protein. I eat one pound of Walnuts a week as my major snack food & fat source, calorie dense @ 3000 per pound, shelf stable, no cook, 65% fat + 14% carbs + 14% protein - 7% soluble fiber. I also plan on Hoe Cakes which is 2 parts Corn Meal + 1 part Self Rising Flour + Salt + enough water to create a batter, fry like pancakes, the wheat gluten in the flour is the binder for the corn meal so no eggs are needed. Plus I also like Peanut Butter. So, Peanut Butter + Hoe Cakes + Walnuts, + Lentils & Rice are my emergency food. Crisco is not OK, Trans Fat (hydrogenated oil) clogs arteries in cumulative fashion, will eventually kill you, same thing with Skippy & Jif Peanut Butter (Trans Fat).

Not bad. I'd have to have a few other items primarily flour for making bannock. Freezedried is crazy high but a dehydrator is an easy way to preserve food. I also have a ton of animal traps so spices are a big deal to make them more palatable. I also have thermal weapon scopes that can get deer and other animals in a pinch very easy. I'd say to also pack some candy you like for comfort food and Coffee!! In the end, food will be everyone's downfall. Oh one more thing, about toilet paper, we went thru the same shortage here in Florida and I bought 2 Clear Rear bidets for each toilet. If you run it for a full minute, your butt is clean and no TP is needed at all. Shorter run time and just one wipe to mainly dry. Many hikers also use hiker bidets that fit on they're Smart Water bottle or similar plastic bottle and they work very well for limiting how much TP you have to carry. Hang in there pal.

I have buckets packed with 2 years supply for 2 people . Sprouting seeds .
It just didnt click for years . You wonder how to get a good supply of veggies when you prep for your family . Sprouting seeds are great . Most are ready to eat in 5 days and so much more nutrients than growing a garden .
I ate 2 meals a day of sprouts for over 2 years to help me figure out how much we would need for daily meals .
It ended up I could put more than a 2 year supply for 2 people in a 5 gallon bucket . That is some easy storage for a lot of food .
We have 3 5 gallon buckets of sprouting seeds .

Excellent idea! Im gonna make one or two. Id put in: True Lime packets- 32 for $5.59- 0 sugar, 1gm carb, 25% of daily Vit C (u wouldnt catch me in bush w/ scurvy), Hurst Beans Hambeens 15 bean dry cajun soup (seasoning pkt incl)- low fat, high protien, $1 per serv.(could add a lime pkt & a few dried tomatos), Super Greens Pasta, Garbanzo bean pasta(chickpea pasta) - more protien, fiber, iron than white or whole wheat pasta. Honey sticks- 100/$20 for energy, antiox ,flavoring, & even for 1st aid as topical for cuts/burns w/ natural anti-bac qualities. Canned fish, yep. Lastly dried or dehydrated mulberry leaves for tea (too many health bennies to list), exta light weight to pack too . Maybe some dehydrated teriyaki beef jerky. Oh, maybe some Funions or cheese puffs for hellofit.😆Ps - Dave, hows the schrooms doing?🍄

When I make rice if I'm adding tuna or sardines or any kind of meat I'll use hot sauce but another alternative for flavor is low sodium soy sauce. I don't use the soy sauce though on fish, it doesn't taste very good to me. Those two sauces and a few different spices can completely take a meal from just eating to survive to happy comfort food. An average 200-pound man burns roughly 2,669 calories a day to maintain a sedentary lifestyle, according to Baylor College of Medicine. And if you can find it there is a peanut butter blended with honey which pretty much covers everything you could possibly want and it's something you really don't get sick of. Speaking of I would also suggest a jar of natural honey aside from the fact that it is full of goodness and worked into pretty much any food that needs sweetening you can use it to replace sugar it would go great on those breakfast oats you had also honey can never go bad. Not to mention it does have medicinal properties as it is antimicrobial.

I put 4-5 zip-lock bags in, to store the opened food packets so they don’t go all over the place.
    Hard lollies.
    Multivitamin.
    Good coffee.
    Home dehydrated orange/lemon slices.
    Dried onion, garlic, mushrooms.
    All cheap, all lightweight.
