  • Today for something a little different I'm going to show you how to make a DIY emergency food supply stored in a 5 gallon bucket! The idea is to have a 25+ year self life & be totally water proof. And the best part is each bucket only wound up costing about $65.00 to put together all supplies included!

    Could we do this one ith seasonings & herbs? Onion powder/garlic ect

    • @Passionforfoodrecipes
      @Passionforfoodrecipes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup! Things like nutmeg will lose some flavor over time because of the oils in them, but onion/garlic especially are zero fat and freeze dried so they should keep pretty much forever.

    Good info, thanks. One way to improve on this method is to vacuum seal smaller amounts in individual bags then add those bags to the mylar bag. It will allow access to food without exposing the entire contents to air and pests, plus if you add the oxygen absorber to the big mylar bag it will help preserve the contents much longer.

    • @Passionforfoodrecipes
      @Passionforfoodrecipes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that is true about using smaller bags so you don't expose all of the food to air! I guess my thought is once you open the bucket you're pretty much going to eat it within a month or so

    This makes me a little uneasy. I have known the Apocalypse is coming for a while now but this brings it all the closer to home. I am usually quite excited for the world to end but this video actually made it feel too real. It is coming and I'm not preparing...

    • @AspienPadda
      @AspienPadda 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh quite the opposite with me @@Passionforfoodrecipes I dislike those movies, they always focus on personal experience. I love the bigger concept, all of humanity dying off excites me. This prep you do makes it more of that uncomfy personal experience instead of the conceptual I love.

    Graham this is awesome !!!!!!!!! I actually have those exact white buckets and top, but what I don’t have a those Mylar bags or the little oxygen packets. My original plan is to use them and keep rotating our rice through them because I know even rice normally last only about a year. Now I can do this and stop rotating everything. I also don’t have the eggs, I need some. We have rice, pinto beans, yeast, flour , sugar, baking soda, and salt. We also in the pantry always have extra pasta and some ramen. I need to try these Mylar bags. We are west coast so I’m always trying to be prepared in case of an earthquake or who knows. So with the Mylar bags and the little packets it’s supposed to last 20 years ?!?!? That’s awesome. Do you all have a corgi ? I thought I saw one walk by.

    • @Passionforfoodrecipes
      @Passionforfoodrecipes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah from what I've read with the mylar bags because you can get a perfect seal pretty easily plus the oxygen absorbers that prevents any bacteria or insect eggs or anything like that from being able to take hold so it's a really great storage technique!
      And yes that was my Corgi Sammy, she's not quite full grown yet but almost! 😁

    I'm so bummed, about a year ago I bought several pounds of powdered eggs for only like $80 and it took so long to get there that I had to leave on vacation, and when I came back it was gone.
