I just moved to Thong Lor area. For me it's a perfect balance, but a little pricey. I tried living in the Nana/Asoke area but it became too intense for me.. you need to find the neighborhood that fits you, there's so many options for every lifestyle.

Koh Kood in low season having just returned,........a lot of places and amenities in the resorts are closed (i.e on-site convenience shops, room service) dining hours are also restricted to around 8pm for last orders. If the weather is poor there isn't a great deal to do it is also one of the most sparsely populated islands so on the flip side very little traffic and it is a paradise.

Tourists shouldn't have a problem bouncing in and out of the country. New visa on entry unless they start to ask you what you're doing here and refuse you entry has happened to quite a few tourists over the years be careful.

Content suggestion. I would be interested in the tech you use to film your vlogs. All of it. The helmet with camera attachments. The good and bad of the mics you use on and off the moto. What tech you use, accessories, things you like and/or wish you had. Leave links in bio so people can easily buy them. Great vlogs bro. Keep up the good work.

Why I moved out of Bangkok: tired of sitting in traffic jams, black feet when wearing flip flops, people putting their dogs out to poo in the side streets so they are full of dog poo, pollution, costs, and city people not as friendly as country people. Sounds like I am complaining but I did stay over 10 years and did have a wonderful time.

12:56 rumor has it that new government in a year or so will allow you to bring your MR2 into Thailand under new rules - only 100% import tax and weekend only registration. So we will see what happens with that. I do Porsche, have a few great ones over here in California, I’ll move full time to Bangkok soon (I hope). I’d hate to leave all my cars at home and buy a lesser car for more money in Thailand but that is the curse of car addiction. Otherwise you can buy a low cost car in Thailand and modify it - like Chad’s car. Everything is cheaper in Thailand except the cars 😢

I have lived and worked in 20+ countries. If you are an expat, you are a foreigner by definition especially when you look different. In Africa and even in Italy, I was often seen as a "mark" same in parts of South America I was at risk of being kidnapped..We Western foreigners are considered to be wealthy, technically we come from wealthy countries. Being a "farng" is in my view not unique to Thailand, I never feel unsafe in Thailand (unless I am on a motorcycle). I do agree the traffic in BKK was better during COVID-19 days. ; ) Hope you find the perfect spot. Keep up the good work.

  • @mythai05

Leaving your keys with your motorcycle is just asking for trouble. What's the point? How hard is it to put your keys in your pocket?
Things are better than they used to be; that's partly because of cameras being everywhere, but things do get stolen here. A helmet of mine got stolen. Luckily, it was just a cheap one. I had a friend whose motorcycle was stolen from the parking lot of the building he lived in. There was a guard posted 24/7 and he didn't leave the keys with the vehicle. That means the thieves came in with a pick-up truck and lifted the bike onto the bed. The guard on duty was fired, and my friend received some compensation from the building owner, but it took months to get it straightened out.

Know what the people are moaning about is one the benefits of learning Thai. I never have to worry about people gossiping about me, because I only use Thai when speaking to locals.
Why would anyone want to live long-term in a country where they can't speak the language?

@@keisone Only if you stick to the touristy areas. I've been to villages in Esarn and met people who couldn't speak Thai let alone English. In the first neighborhood I lived in when I first stayed in Bangkok almost nobody spoke English, which was a good thing because it forced me to at learn the basics. And it gave me the motivation to learn more. I enjoy be able to converse on a wide range of subjects.
Being able to speak the language fluently opens up many doors.

Sorry but learning the local language where you live should be a must. Of course not fluent but still put in some effort. It’s also not about being if you need it or not cause „people speak English“. You learn the language of the country you live in to also show some respect and get immersed in the culture. Unfortunately people who have English as their mother tongue are very lazy with languages but at the same time demand everyone to speak English at their home.

I really think there is no need to learn Thai as it is very difficult like you mentioned. That little translator unit you had on your channel a few times is the perfect way to communicate and if you need a backup you can use your phone. It is nice to learn some simple phrases as the locals like it but the better you are at speaking Thai the more they assume you understand the language and it is almost impossible to understand if spoken quickly.

    • @davidmann2524
      @davidmann2524 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Thats the biggest issue with Thailand. You can't really go anywhere as an expat and fit in with locals until you learn the language. Nobody wants to communicate through translator units. I'm actually surprised dude hasn't went to go take some classes at this point if he's staying which it looks like he is. I mean I'm moving to Brazil in 6 months and already started with Portuguese.

I don't understand why Aussies go and live permanently in Thailand. To start with, a male at 67 years of age can retire and receive a pension for the rest of his or her life. No pension in Thailand . In Australia if you need to see a doctor or need to be admitted to hospital for a operation etc again this is free. In Thailand, if you don't have medical insurance, you are in trouble. My wife was admitted at Bangkok hospital for Dengi fever and thank God we had travel insurance as no doctor or nurse would see my wife until the hospital staff were guaranteed their money
If I had no insurance or money to pay for her medical expenses the hospital couldn't care less and turn her away. We are lucky enough to own our own home. In Thailand, you never own the land, the king of Thailand does, which is so ridiculous to me. When receiving the pension 95% of medication will only cost you a few dollars for each script. For low income families the Australian government will give you a house or unit with very low rent depending on how much you earn. No such thing in Thailand. From what I can see ,the King of Thailand gives the local Thai people jack shit. I don't understand why the Thai people think sun shines from the rear of the royal family as the royal family or King does jack shit to help the people. I mean, I can go on and write a book about this subject so for me to pack up and go and live in Thailand, and give up all the benefits from theAustralian government, I would have to have brain damage or similar
Don't get me wrong, my wife and myself travel to Thailand twice each year and we love it. Nice weather, nice food, nice people, lots to do etc, great country for a holiday but NO way would I live there permanently

I love Thailand but I agree with you on the dual pricing. Paying 5x or 10x what a local Thai would pay for entry is not the way to promote tourism in Thailand. The fee should be lowered to 2x so more people can enjoy what Thailand has to offer.
