Nope, notice how he asked to 'see' the route that the man gave him on paper. How did he know that he had a written route? He was in on it. But I am unsure on why he would slander the suit company.

My friend and I were subject to the suit and jewelery store scam when we went to visit the Grand Palace. Thanks for making this video and exposing this very common and off-putting problem.
The oldest Tuk-Tuk tricks! When I first visited Bangkok in 1991, I hired a Tuk-Tuk for half day just to see temples. After every temple, he would stop at a clothing store, jewelry store and say just looking looking and they give me free petrol. BS.
I'm glad I'm built a little different when they pull that on me I just say I'm leaving and I won't pay anything yes they get so mad and yell cuss but I'm not about to be feeling uncomfortable like that you get on the phone I'm giving you 80 baht and walking off ASAP haha.. Staying near National Stadium BTS last year, i was constantly bothered by one tuk-tuk scammer in particular. A few heated interactions eventually led a few Leo's where he explained how these scams operate. Yep on my first trip to Bangkok about 30 years ago I did a similar Tuk tuk ride for 20 baht. The driver seemed happy enough getting his petrol vouchers from the stores. I ducked in and out of a few shops as he requested and zipped me around to see a few sights. I was happy with my 20 baht tour. 😂
I suspect back then it really was just get ppl in the door and you get a gas card, when I went in 2018 same deal they just said I had to buy something at the shops for them to get them gas cards
I've been to Thailand 10x. I remember one trip where I got a taxi at the hotel I was at. Knowing about the "suit" or "jewel" scam shops, I got in and tapped my watch, hey, I'm in a hurry, no time for shop. Well, this pissed off the taxi driver. I noted that we lapped the victory monument twice. When he stopped at the light I threw him 20 baht and jumped out. Amazing how a change of clothes create such a difference on the approach of some of the locals in Thailand! I know this happened to me in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, as I got shook down by the police and they took all my vacation money so they wouldn’t take my 15-year-old to jail!
Same thing happened to me over 20 years ago!! Clearly this is still happening today!! My visit to Bangkok for a month in November of 2022 was quite different as I avoided using Tuk-Tuk and generally the large tourist hot spots that people visit. My journey comprised of me using the MRT/BTS as well as some motorbike with a local Thai but I never felt pressured to buy anything while I was there. 555555 🤣 love the elephant pants man!. I guess we all had to learn one way or the other, but this should be useful for first time tourists. The real downside of these scams for newbies is once you know you've been scammed, you think everyone is scamming you and start accusing honest Thais of doing so and that's when things can get interesting.
That 80/100b Tuk Tuk was cheap as hell even though he did take you to a suit shop. I expected him to bump up the price when you finished but he only asked for 20b for water. I don't think you got scammed at all today there are way bigger scams than this. You just got lucky today and I give props to everyone who helped you, including the TukTuk driver.
Back in the late 1980's, I backpacked alone in SE Asia. Your video brought back memories of my BAD experiences in BGK. The methods recorded were similar to what I remember. Unfortunately, Thailand is not alone; other countries noted with bitter memories are Spain, Morocco, Indonesia, Egypt, India come to mind. The key is not to take any of this personally, you are a target and you can do very little to blend in. Today, I have visited 40+ countries, and all of my negative experiences all add to my list of "war stories." KEEP traveling!
Great vid mate, was in Bangkok a couple of weeks ago… the amount of people we saw wearing those threads ….. especially the couples with matching outfits😅. Loved the BTS and MRT
It's was so mutch fun to see this vlog ;-) They try always the same trick, that's why I normally take a Grab Taxi ;-) I was two time at the The Grand Palace and both time a Guy cames to my and told my it's closed but he do a TukTuk Tour for me ;-) If I take a TukTuk or a Taxi I always negotiate a price before the ride and during the ride they always show me a Card and try to sell me a Tour or PingPong Show or what ever... As a Tourist it's the best way to use Grab even if you pay a little more like you negotiate a price on a Taxi. For longer distances I take the metro or Train or Ferry and at the End a Taxi.
1st rule...talk to no one that approaches you. And Yes ...do not ever don that "Scam me uniform" aka elephant pants. thanks for this great content really
Yes. And it's not just the tuk tuk drivers. The cumulative effect on the visitors is very stressful and frustrating. There are so many psychopaths. Thank you so much for making this video.
It's a full time job for them, they did me and my gf years ago taking us to a very "peng" restaurant but I just ordered 2 drinks and left. Could be worse, in Australia there's peoples losing thousands to online scams and banks and government doing nothing to protect! good vid
Great video here. Proves a point how your clothing can make you a target ( and probably the gopro also ). Rule of thumb. Never accept anything. If you want a taxi or a tuktuk, find one yourself. If someone approaches you, you are a mark.
This is a great experiment. I never talk to any of these clowns anywhere in Thailand. Maybe if you ever move on from there you can repost the video and show their faces. They would hate that and it could really help someone down the road.
Never go with anyone that approaches you. This eliminates a lot of problems when travelling.

Luv the hat!! Raider nation!!
Could be worse, in Australia there's peoples losing thousands to online scams and banks and government doing nothing to protect! good vid
There is a reason why rideshare like Bolt and Grab is eating their lunch! Avoid Tuk-Tuks and Taxis like the plague.
I have to say...smashing outfit, boy !
🤘😘💨💨➡️🇹🇭
Where was your hat with corks? Give em the full Croc Dundee!! 😁
Great video here. Proves a point how your clothing can make you a target ( and probably the gopro also ). Rule of thumb. Never accept anything. If you want a taxi or a tuktuk, find one yourself. If someone approaches you, you are a mark.
20 years ago I got taken out into the middle of the river & was told to pay more or we would just sit there & not move.
This is a great experiment. I never talk to any of these clowns anywhere in Thailand. Maybe if you ever move on from there you can repost the video and show their faces. They would hate that and it could really help someone down the road.
I've never seen anyone wearing matching elephant pants and a shirt! I think a Chang vest and denim shorts would have been the outfit 🙂
Exactly why I don't ever use tuk tuk's. Too hard, can't be bothered with the price bartering.
