    Another fun feature is pasting objects into states. For example, if you want an arrow to point at something when you hover on it, you can paste an arrow into the State. How that arrow overlaps the other states can be tweaked using Bring forward/send back if the states object remains in the state. If you delete the stated object in that state, you get different behavior.

      I might actually start grouping objects with states rather than pasting into states. That behavior might serve my purposes.

      Good suggestion / insight, Pierre! Yes, I generally try to use separate objects because things can get complicated once you change the size / position of the object in its normal state (it can have unintended consequences on the objects you've pasted within other states)

    Thank you for this incredibly helpful training! I've just started my journey to becoming a successful ID hopefully! Your courses are absolutely awesome! Thank you so much for your amazing work helping people like myself.

    Very cool. I pulled a few useful tips out. Esp, I had never tried images in states. Working with I-Codes for the trades, it will come in super handy for allowing the user to view editions of code books (e.g. International Plumbing Code, etc...) with a click of a button or a hover, etc. All the best!

    Thought this would all be review, but… Already learned something new at 3:50! Hidden states are built in?! 🤯

    Great tutorial. Question- Is there a way of making a custom Disabled state?

    Thanks for this video. Could you show how to make a slider using either states or layers to have an image carousel or something like that?

    Are these videos in a recommended order? I happened upon this one today and it is right where I am so was able to learn a few things. I have done a few storyline videos and am going to continue working through them. SO HELPFUL! Thanks for these beginner videos!!!! APPRECIATE your time and demeanor which makes these videos easier to follow. On to more videos! made my way through the checklist and now trying to learn more tech (my weakest skill)

      Hi Cristina! I'm going to be working on them in a recommended order to build out this new playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLDW3IzDXPIgo052GFD_c5yGkZoz0qi2si.html
      So while the playlist is still a little light right now, it should be much more built out in the coming weeks / months. Looking forward to helping you on the tech front! And it sounds like you may really enjoy the Storyline Project Lab if you have a budget for professional development :D.

    I'm not sure if this is a quick fix, but I cannot see the individual states in the editing boxes like on your screen. I'm new to all thing storyline and haven't messed with any setting so I'm not sure how to make the boxes appear so I can see the changes being made. I'm on at 13:28 time mark to be exact and they are not appearing in the normal, text, size, or color state boxes

    Hi, Devlin! Thank you for this video!! You mentioned a while back that Storyline's built in hover state is not something you recommend (I think from one of your Pirate workshops [goldbear and blackbeard] -- I remember the joke was to use "HovarR" as the custom name for the custom "hoverState" haha). Do you think the hover state (and all the built-in states) from Storyline are now more reliable? Thank you so much!!!

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shawn! I showed one of the ways how they glitch in this video, so it looks like they still haven't worked out those issues. And that's just one of the glitches that you can repeat reliably. Check out my response to your post in the community, though. I think that may help with what you've been experiencing :D

    What program are you using for making your videos?

  • @tomservo75

    At 21:45 it's hard for me to see how that's a bug. Aren't they supposed to act together if they're grouped? That doesn't seem like an issue per se with built in states because it seems to work fine as long as they're ungrouped.

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point! If you have a project where you don't mind that they both change despite where the user hovers or clicks, grouping them with the built-in state would be just fine.
      But if you want to have them grouped to perform one function together, and then have each button react to the user independently, I'd recommend using a custom state!
