3 Interactive PowerPoint Projects for eLearning You Can Create Right Now
Want to practice prototyping eLearning in PowerPoint? Join us for a live workshop where we'll build one of these three projects together! Register here: live.devlinpeck.com/ref/Lom6WJztMQCNAwBI
Planning out your eLearning projects before developing can save you hours of work.
But what if we told you that PowerPoint could act as your key to functional prototyping and your bridge to faster development in Storyline?
In fact, since PowerPoint is so accessible compared to other tools, it can be a great starting point for developing eLearning.
Because whether you're completely new to authoring tools, or you just want to streamline your ID process, you can use Powerpoint to test out the basic design and functionality of your eLearning projects. And then from there, you can directly import your slides into Storyline.
That is...once you know the right elements to use.
Which is in this video, Kristin Dominguez is here to show us exactly which ones to incorporate.
She shares her top insights on how to make PowerPoint and Storyline work seamlessly together, and walks us through 3 functional eLearning projects you can create in PowerPoint today (that will save you time in the long run).

I have no formal training in the area and am teaching myself Storyline 360. Surely this all depends on the scale of a project - if you consider industries where there are broad and deep performance, conditions and standards (Health and Safety etc). For me, it is semantics - different gearing and ratios dependent on project scale. ADDIE is more about 'assurance' imo, the bigger the project the more money spent, the more assurance needed. Smaller, narrower projects and shorter time frames may tolerate, or demand SAM - but the processes are used in both systems in my experience.

    • @DevlinPeckYT

    • @KristinDominguezDP
      @KristinDominguezDP 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I wish Storyline supported the morph transition too! While not super convenient, a workaround is to create the transition in PowerPoint, export your slide(s) as MP4s, and then import them into Storyline. You'll likely also need to add cue points and triggers to get everything working perfectly.

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The morph transition is great on it's own within PowerPoint for sure. And I agree with Kristin here - it would be cool if that feature transferred a little easier into SL!

    Hello! Thanks so much for the wealth of knowledge you provide through your channel. It is MUCH appreciated! I do have a question, however. I am a prior teacher diving deep into researching the ID field. I'm hooked. As I prepare to plan for concept projects to add to a portfolio, I am a little stuck on "acceptable" authoring tools I can use to build them. I have a Mac, so I don't have easy access to Storyline at the moment unless I bite the bullet and purchase what's needed to run Windows. I know there are free trials to Storyline, but not having Windows to run it is the hurdle. It's SO hard to justify spending so much money for portfolio building and new ID practice. :/ Would it be considered unprofessional to build out projects using tools like Google Suites and Canva? I have EVERY desire to learn tools like Storyline and Vyond and have been watching all kinds of tutorials on them. Is it a deal breaker to not use those tools out of the gate for the projects in my portfolio? Thanks so much!

    • @DevlinPeckYT

    I have a similar teaching background as some of you; I also taught in Asia like Joanne and also was a Math Instructor like Sabrina. There is a bit of confusion here; Before it was advised to not lean on your teaching experience, and here it's more to embrace it. Maybe that was directed at portfolio items created, if this is the case, still, if some of us are transitioning from teaching we have a lot of curriculum we designed that can be used in our portfolios.

      Nice clarification! You're right, and a lot of teaching experience is still relevant in the ID field. For landing ID interviews, it's helpful if you can reframe your past experience within in an ID context in both your resume and your portfolio. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for doing follow up video.. Will AI take your ID job?

      I hope not :D AI is so new and it's not industry standard yet. Still, knowing how to navigate some of the basic tools may be a good skill to have down the road!

    Thanks alot man. I am looking to transition into a L&D position. I noticed I haven't been able to land anything so i decided that I need to build my skills. I noticed Articulate 360 was highly desired. Thanks for showcasing this and putting the time and effort.

    Thank you Dev for all your very beneficial input, are there any free substitute to Adobe Illustrator that can help in the ID field, if one can't afford it...

      Thanks for watching! You could always use the free trial of illustrator to to create a few assets if it's for your portfolio, otherwise there's Krita, which has some similarities :D

    Thanks Devlin. Another helpful video. Would it actually be better for people that are trying to break into ID to use a Process Write-up instead of building out a portfolio item in Articulate Storyline? I'm thinking people that are new may not be competent enough with Storyline yet to use it effectively, so doing the Process Write-up may compensate for that?

      Thanks for watching! From what we've seen, hiring managers are looking for your proficiency with the tools, as well as your understanding of the ID process. Both are definitely going to be important in a portfolio if you're looking to break into the field.

    Not bad, but I feel this video could have been shortened by at least 30 mins. Also, this strategy for a D&D activity is ok if you want to have the items appear in a certain order, but I think D&D activities are more useful from a learner's perspective for having option appear randomly. I feel this strategy is a very inefficient and overly complex way of doing a D&D activity when you could also do a single slide and convert it to a freeform D&D slide or have it set up as a D&D assessment activity. This way, you don't have to worry about where the correct targets, as they are easily programmed into a single trigger rather than dozens, and you don't need dozens of layers and their associated triggers. Just my opinion...

    Hi Dev, will Canva do a similar job to CS to create a visual prototype for learning?

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You could try using Figma for prototyping. Sabrina has some great Figma tutorials on the channel, if you want to check it out. Although, I'm sure you could find some creative ways to use Canva as well :D

    @ Devlin Peck: hi and thanks for providing this info I am just wondering how we actually add/integrate it into a SL file and publish it as part of that file?
