  • Articulate Storyline 360 is the most popular and in-demand tool for instructional designers. That's why, in this hands-on workshop, we build a short project together to help you get started with the tool.
    The pirate-themed project that we build walks us through setting up the project, adding content to the slide, creating states, adding layers, and using triggers to add interactivity.

    Hello and thanks , what does the meaning of inspiring eLearning development or inspiring instructional designer- that I saw in your website! can we use this word in our resume specially if we didn't get a job, yet! but working as a volunteer.... .also, I have question about how much we have time for registering in storyline lab?

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sara! Good question. The word I actually use is "aspiring," it basically just means people who are currently trying to become instructional designers or eLearning developers. I see how it would sound like I'm saying "inspiring" though :D. It's up to you if you use the word aspiring or not in your headline...if you're doing ID work, then you may not need to use that qualifier.
      And the project lab is on sale until December 1st :). Let me know if you have any other questions about that.

    Hello Devlin! I was wondering about the deadline of the "storyline lab" and have some questions about that: when we can start it, I mean can we have this course any time from now? and ... in your lab you will learn us about making course and uploading course on the LMS or only we will learn about some features of storyline which are helpful in landing job? and is it possible to have access to you 1 to 1 if we have questions or access to coaches in this storyline lab for long time or we should ask all our questions during in limited time of workshop that you and your colleges already have determined? Thanks so much!

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and thanks for asking! The Storyline Project Lab is self-paced with community support. So you have access to the content immediately and can work through it at your own pace. That being said, you are also invited to join the private Slack channel, a project team, and pair with a lab partner. You can ask for help and support in all of these spaces, and I will stay involved with the community (although I do not promise 1-on-1s or personalized feedback in this program like I do in the bootcamp program, which involves much more 1-on-1 support but is much more of an investment).
      Regarding the content, the main focus is on using Articulate Storyline to its full potential. However, we also cover publishing and reporting to the LMS, browser tools / add-ons that are helpful, common requests from clients, how to minimize rework, etc.
      So we will make sure that you have the support and content that you need to develop in Storyline at a pro level if you decide to enroll in the project lab :).
      Let me know if you have any other questions!

    I would love to know the future of ID and where is the overall e-learning industry moving towards in the next 3-5 years and how do we instructional designers keep ourselves ahead of the learning curve.

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Akshay, thanks for asking! If there's anything that I've learned over the last several years in this industry, it's that it's very slow to change. SCORM-based eLearning has been dominating the market and it has seemed to only move further in that direction. So learning tools like Storyline should be safe for the foreseeable future. If / when I see changes in the market, though, I will be sure to post videos about them :)

    The SL Beginner's Guide advises using the 16:9 aspect ratio. Your video above here recommends 1280x720. I'm curious about why you suggest the wider screen and if you discourage using the 16:9? Thank you. :)

      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jill! Thanks for commenting on this. 1280x720 is a 16:9 aspect ratio, and this is what we recommend using. You could also go 1920x1080 for a higher resolution project, or you could size down to 720px width for lower resolution. Let me know if you have any other questions about this :D

    • @DevlinPeckYT

      Good question, Luis. Rise is different than Storyline. You'll need to download Articulate 360 and then install Storyline 360 from that desktop app. Rise is much more simple and browser-based. Hi Devlin,
    What's your view on using the "Convert to Freeform Slide" option for doing interactions like drag and drop. It was interesting that you built your drag and drop without using that and I wondered if that is because - much the same as you have said with Storyline inbuilt states - you've had bad experiences with freeform drag and drops or any of the other freeform options such as Pick One, Pick Many, Text Entry, Hotspot or Shortcut Key and because of that you now prefer to build from scratch yourself.

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Carlton! For quick things like this (and for much more complex things), I use custom triggers. If the drag-and-drop is fairly straightforward and the freeform interaction builder will save me time, then I go with that. No issues with the drag-and-drop builder that I've found though if you're using it for something it's intended to do :D. Also good to go with that one if you want to grade / report to the LMS.

    Devlin, in order to add an image and paste on another image like you did with the treasure chest, do you need to cut the image out of its original background, so that it blends with the Storyline background? I was following the tutorial and found that when you paste an image on the slide, it does not look blended. I had some old images cut out from their original background with Photoshop and they worked just fine.

    • @DevlinPeckYT

    In your experience, how many of your assets do you make yourself, and how much is borrowed or found on the web or in the free asset library? I guess I’m just wondering if clients prefer self-made assets, or if there is an ethical dilemma about using Google Images (for example) as assets in a project.

    • @DevlinPeckYT

      @@ckernest HI! 512 GB will definitely be enough. And that's a tough call. The M1 chips are sooo much better than anything else out there, but it is a bit easier to use Storyline with the Intel Macs. It seems like people with 16 GB of RAM on their M1 Macs are having decent experiences with Storyline, so I would probably go with that.

    HI Devlin -- I have a Mac. If I learn Rise 360, will I be prepared to use Storyline 360 as well?

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. But no, you will not be. The programs are completely different. Rise is a good one to learn but you should definitely get comfortable with Storyline as well 😃

    Thank you so much. I am completely new, and at one stage I couldn't figure why I was receiving an error that didn't allow me to preview the scene. Well, problem was that I was selecting the settings button next to the device icons rather than the Preview button within "Publish options" in the menu.

    Hi devlin . Is Articulate storyline 3 has text to speech features? . if yes do you have any videos on that ?

  • @jensynbell3080
    @jensynbell3080 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Devlin,
    This tutorial was great! I love the parallels between PowerPoint and Storyline. Thank you for the great tips - I never knew that to highlight an entire text box you can press escape, and the copy/paste/replace is a GAME CHANGER!
    I am getting ready to get my free trial of Articulate and am going to begin story boarding an idea I had. I was wondering if it is okay if I borrow your pirate idea for an elementary music project I'm thinking of doing. I'd like to incorporate it into my classroom as well as eventually into my portfolio! Students will have to figure out what note they are reading on the staff, and that will contain the key needed to unlock the chest. :)

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course! Borrow away :D. And I'm glad you've been enjoying the content. Also, if you're looking to transition into corporate ID, it will be good to have some portfolio projects for adults :)

    Really enjoyed following this tutorial! I have never used Articulate before and found this easy to follow along. I have experience with Premiere, Photoshop, and Powerpoint though so a lot of this language translated. I did have trouble previewing some of the triggers, it would not preview for some reason. But when I previewed the whole project they worked and when I published it they worked fine. Might be a glitch with storyline or my computer. Thanks for sharing this tutorial!

    I ran into a snag at around the 1:02:00 mark. In the trigger, the only field that populates with my actual named item is the object from this layer (graffiti). The choices are generic- it doesn't recognize that I've renamed my layers or that I have anything to refer to in the base layer (no base layer object or target). If anyone can point to the error, I'd appreciate it!

    • @veenahopson885
      @veenahopson885 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I think I solved it. The trigger to generate the Congrats layer actually exists on the Base Layer.
