    This guy taught me the basics of Articulate, I followed his instructions and thanks to this video I was able to use Articulate, and after a long time without a job because I didn't know how to use Articulate, I got a job that involves the use of it. Thanks so much, I really recommend this video, I like the way how he explains everything!

    I made the mistake of checking out Articulate 360 before watching your video. As I jumped around the website, a wave of imposter syndrome washed over me. This feeling stayed with me most of the afternoon.

    Hi Devlin, I am a huge fan of your videos. Could you please create videos on how to estimate for a project? For eg how do we estimate for a Storyline project? It would be really helpful for newbies like me? Or if you could share a document that states how an estimation document should look like and what details should be provided?

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Priyanka! I can think about how to present that, but I generally suggest that people move to fixed pricing as soon as they feel comfortable enough to do so. Estimating hours is difficult because it can depend on the client relationship and your own proficiency / speed with the different ID tasks.

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Mariela, you're welcome! Thanks for watching :D. And it's definitely enough time to learn the tool at a pretty decent level...you can learn enough to do what you'd need to do on most ID jobs. Adobe Captivate is a similar tool, but the user experience isn't as good and there doesn't seem to be as high of a demand for people who know that tool.

    I've been using Adobe Captivate for many years and have considered Storyline on many occasions - always stayed with Captivate mind, albeit 'Project Charm' is taking a lot longer than hoped. Do you think the new Captivate release will be on par with Storyline? Thanks for all the excellent videos Devlin!

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John! And I think that the new Captivate release has the potential to take a lot of ground from Storyline (seems like it may be even better). I imagine Storyline probably has something new in the works too with all of the funding that they got, but we will see how the market develops!

    Thanks for the great video. Wondering do you recommend taking an online course for learning articulate storyline and rise or teaching ourselves? Which would be faster? I do have experience designing on Kajabi and thinkific just for some stuff for myself. I want to master these two software’s before I apply for an instructional design job so wondering if you think that would be more useful? I see that Oregon State University has an online course that is six weeks for instructional designers that teaches articulate and rise. This is in my neighborhood so I was thinking of taking it but it’s a bit pricey. The money is fine I just wanna make sure you think it’s worth it. Also maybe that will give more credibility to add that course to a résumé?

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re welcome, and good questions! It’s definitely possible to teach yourself, but some people choose to go with paid programs for more structure (and to save time). I have an offering that you can check out on my site (called the Storyline Project Lab), but I’m sure the university program one couldn’t hurt either! And showing that you’re committed to your prof dev will look good, but specific certs won’t make much of a difference (it’s more about showing off what you can do with the tool by creating portfolio projects).

    Hi Devlin, Thanks for this video. I'm trying to figure out how I should put my curriculum online and offer it to students. It's just one curriculum - English as a Foreign Language. Actually my class will be for teachers of English from other countries. It's a curriculum that they, the English teachers, can use with their students.

    I greatly appreciate this guidance. I just finished the Linkdin course on SL, and although I have a better understanding, I'm still confused, esp. about Slide Masters and Layouts (I never quite got this in PPT). And yep, I've read the parent-child metaphor, but it's still not registering. Maybe it will all click before my trial runs out.
    Looking at your checklist, would you say that we should be learning more than one software program at a time (e.g., delve into Adobe Illustrator while learning SL)? All of this is super interesting, but I feel like I'm drowning in content at times.

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for asking, Lynn. And yes, it can definitely feel like a lot in the beginning! But you will not recognize where you were when you look back in a few months :D.
      Learning Illustrator while learning SL couldn't hurt, but I always learn best when I have a specific project in mind that I'm motivated and excited to create. Then I learn the skills necessary to bring it to life.
      So it may be good to identify which tools you want to learn, then identify a good ID problem that you can solve with those skills.
