Just a note to tell you how much I admire your tenacity and even temprament. Even at my age (80), I would have been yelling screaming, throwing tools, parts and probably would have had enough adrenaline flowing to have picked upt the entire bike and chucked it in the trash. Keep this up, young man and I think you may end uo a TH-cam STAR.
Thank you very much, that's very kind of you. It's dead frustrating when things don't go right but I guess that's all part of being a biker sometimes... 🤣 Thanks for watching matey, much appreciated 👍
Time to use double rubber! Best tip i've ever had about wearing the blue nasties. Double up on the rubber, in that case, you'll always have a clean glove underneath the dirty one, and it's easy to change the dirty one because you are pulling it over a clean one instead of sweaty hands.👍😃
Doin good work. I disagree about the Tensioner Tamer though. 80 quid vs a chopped up pressure plate and a sump full of aluminum shards. I've got one in my ZRX1100 and no issues. Adjust it every 2 years around clutch inspection time. Of course in US it costs $75. A bit cheaper than in the UK. Good work and through.
I get you matey, but this one is working fine at the minute and I can just make one on the mill if needed. I'll be keeping an eye on it anyways just in case, but we'll see how it goes 😁👍
Those chain tensioners are also an issue on the ZRX1100/1200 whose engine shares a lot of components with the ZZR. I replaced my ZRX's tensioner twice over the course of 50k+ miles. On the Rex you can see the strike marks on the clutch plate cover made by the failing tensioner when you open the oil fill port.
I thinknill just make one at some point, utterly this one seems fine at the moment with no new marks on the pressure plate. I'm happy to run it for now, but will keep an eye on it 😁
Great job Simon...!! Watched along every step of the way....,I've done one of these engines myself (the 1200 version) so in previous videos I chipped in with whatever comments I had as this project has captivated my attention and kept me glued to Every update.. No need for me to even mention the oil filter sequence as by now you already know......👍 Well done sir......,and as you rightly said its a confidence thing.....,so for that alone you have excelled yourself..! There is virtually nothing on youtube covering the ZZR~ZRX engine internals etc.....,so in that respect you are a trailblazer and the content you have posted in this series will be invaluable to countless others wanting information., along with being an inspiration to.. "have a go....." Congratulations...! Really looking forward to the next video and the rest of the journey with this bike.. Well Done....!! BG.
Thank you matey, that'd very kind of you. I know I've not captured absolutely everything and I did get the filter order wrong. There's also no washer in there which there should be, I just went with how it came apart but it's really good fun doing all this. That said, there's still something to sort out as you'll see in the next video. Thanks for watching matey, it's very much appreciated 👍
No worries at all on the oil filter sequence...,you went with what you had and how it came apart....,its no biggie.... I'm a firm believer in being an encouragement where ever possible.. Motorcycling is a "community" so as the old saying goes...."if you can't say anything nice......etc.... You done good and I'm thoroughly enjoying the entire series...,along with that of your fellow youtubers too...,I have nothing but praise to you all.... Thank you sir for doing what you are doing in the full glare of everyone watching..... BG.
Awesome job so far, from memory shouldn’t there be a spring fitted before the filter is fitted? At least there used to be when replacing oil filters on the old GPz’s
Yeah, somebody else metioned that as well and there was a washer missing from it too. It doesn't matter so much now though as you'll see in the next video 😁

Still got that bit to do matey. 5th gear was the priority as there was shrapnel in the sump. I've got new coils etc so hopefully it'll be an easy fix 🙏
£80 is a fair chunk of money, but in the long run, is that worth it to you. I normally throw a few quid in a jar when I have a quid or two spare, and you probably wouldn't have minded paying it really, great video as usual. Take care, Andy
I know what you mean matey, but at the minute I'm going with 'if it's not broken, don't fix it'. It's odd but given there tend to be a few known problems with every bike, do youninstantly replace them if you buy one? 2nd gear is a known issue on these, but if the gearbox was fine I wouldn't have gone in to replace 2nd gear if it was working OK. I would have waited until it started jumping out of gear if it happened at all. 🤔

Talking to parts is not healthy, i think he sniffed too much gasoline.
