Good lad, you can’t fuck it up that bad. I get why people get nervous about taking an engine apart but it’s only lumps of metal and so long as you’re methodical it’s pretty straightforward. The “nice” thing is is it’s already broken so you have nothing to lose.
Back in the 90’s I worked in a Kawasaki shop in Raleigh North Carolina. The ZX-11 was the hot bike to have. We started having ZX-11’s come in with broken 2nd gears. Guys were speed shifting 1st to Second to pop giant wheelies. The gear box in the ZX-11 was basically a ZX-10 box and the 11 couldn’t take the extra torque so Kawasaki had a warranty fix to a stronger 2nd gear. We would send the gears out to be undercut for a nominal fee and that would make the gearbox bullet proof. As old as your bike is I imagine it’s been abused over the years. Hell,I would! They were great bikes and would take an enormous amount of spirited riding. Unusual to have 5th go but any gear can go on a bike that old.
I have my first and 2nd gear poping out. I landed on this video cuz lf that. Can you tell me what to look Up to make to mine? I have lathe and Mill just need an example
GIDDAY MATE. DAYUM THE INFO BEFORE STARTING THE WORK WAS PRICELESS. And some of the comments too. Though I have a D8 Model (yeah I brought it over from the states), I currently do not have any tranny (and not the converted human form of that) issues but heck I tune in just to watch yuz work. Keep at it. Ya never can have to many photos during these things.
Hope you have the spark plugs out when turning it over on that hex by the pick up as it can bend the woodruff key that the pick up ring locates on. Again don’t ask me how I know 😂🤦♂️
Cool beans buddy, just subbed, my spare Zephyr engine has a dodgy 2nd gear, I'm thinking of using it in a project, so I might tackle the gear issue if I do
Oh, yeah! Now, that's a good lad! Rip her open and tear out the guts! 🤩 If it makes sense to pull something apart, then do it! Which is certainly the case here, with all that swarf in the oil sump. Rinse and replace, whatever You need. Then try and get as many of the parts as You possibly can, back in there again. But, don't worry! You can make it. And I agree on taking the photos. If You think 100 photos is enough, take 50 more. You know You will be needing them. Besides, they're for free! Good luck! Until tomorrow, I'll be sitting right here, waiting! 🏍
How are you finding those 5ah ryobi knock off batteries? Love the videos BTW. You influenced my decision to buy a k2 bandit 600 that I've been rebuilding for the past 2 years ☺️
Geddon... I take it you're doing a full rebuild? Send me some pics and I'll stick it on the channel. The batteries are really good considering the price and last ages. The tell tale thing is the impact gun as it needs plenty to get properly stuck stuff loose, but it works a treat 😁 There's better brands out there for sure, but these do what I need for now 👍
Yeah full rebuild! Bought it with a broken cylinder head bolt inbetween lockdown 1 and 2. It had been dry stored for 10 years after the previous owner lost interest in it! Pics on their way! Not quite finished but I've got 3 weeks until my mod 2 test so time is ticking!
Ok what are the symptoms...I was waiting for you to holler they're a cartoon family ..lol... I'm sure at some point the guys at Haynes will eventually get the removal order correct or at least in the correct section . Perhaps they assume you have already removed all other ancillary components and anything else pertaining to access the bit ya wanna remove . I'm certain they have a sick sense of humour as well ..dogs facing vertical . .... dont tell ya what way the lump has to face for it to be vertical lol. At least ya getting to see the bits you wanna see .. onwards to tomorrow fella
It's just bits of the manual make no sense.... its like important bits are just missing and you have to work it out for yourself. That said you do tend to poke about a but and learn something I guess. The next video shows what I 'think' the problem is and it goes live tomorrow. Let me know your thoughts matey 😁
Hey Simon. I can tell this is your first engine teardown, everyone knows a real professional lays the parts out next to each other on the bike stand. Particularly amateur show, those plastic bags.. Still, you got the kiddy fiddlers out, so that's a plus point. Good luck, man. I'm sure it'll go fine, even if it's a bit of a fraught experience.

Very true.... if I cock it up, I can always give it to a mechanic to finish 🤣😂
Down the rabbit hole you go !! awesome !!

Very good. Yes my car also frequently gets "the indicator bulbs are not orange enough" - I do change them, but blessed if I can see any difference! 😁❤
Great stuff, enjoying this project
Thanks for watching matey 👍

At least you haven’t resorted to the big hammer yet!All the best.
Hehehe... Steve O is banned whilst I'm doing this for that very reason 🤣😂
Ot looks awfully complicated in there! Classic 😆
Hehehe... wellnit dies till you start to figure stuff out 🤣😂
Fortune favours the brave, I’m sure you will get it sorted.

Hehehe... thank you matey. Pulling it all apart is the only way to sort it really, so that's what's happening . Thanks for watching 😁 👍
Here we go.. Yippee
When are you planning on drinking that Orange juice by the kettle, everytime I see it in your videos I crave orange juice
Hehehe... its been there for a while now... not sure I want it any more 🤣😂
How about making some gears on the mill?
How about a Nova Racing gearbox ££££!
A little bit beyond my skills matey 🤣😂
Rather you than me quickly 🤢❤️🔧👍
Tis all good so far matey 👍
How are you finding those 5ah ryobi knock off batteries?

Hehehe... I've also named everything 🤣😂
Everyone has their own way of doing these things and none of them are wrong if they work.
Seems like a lot of fuss. Do you really need an engine?😏
It is a lot of fuss, I grant you that, but it'll be good once it done 😁👍
