  • We've ridden it on the road, and the Speed Triple RS impressed us with its effortless power and torque, and it's impressive speed, poise and handling.
    Really the only issue we found was a slightly harsh ride over bumps, which got us thinking; could the Triumph Speed Triple RS be the ultimate track day tool that also doubles as a daily driver?
    We took bike to Donington Park for a track day on the GP circuit to find out.

    Ducati monster 1200, Yamaha MT-10 or the Speed Triple? Which one is the best option??

      I've owned a 07 speed triple and own an mt10. Honestly either would do you great. That triple is SMOOTH. Super refined bike. The Mt is a great bike too, more roudy! I personally prefer Japanese bikes for the reliability factor.

    Top review as always. This bike, though down on power compared to the other super-nakeds, makes more sense to me as an all-round bike than it's 200+ Bhp competitors. Plus, I think it's looks will age better than the more angular styled bikes.

      Timothy MIlls correct, that it lacks in power it makes up for in character, something many super nakeds lack

    Great review! Luv my Matt Black 19 Speed RS!!..At 6'2'' and 105 Kg I find the standard suspension settings bob on for the road, but understand your comments for someone who is considerably lighter. My bike is now fitted with Metzeler M9's and they suit the bike really well on the road, yet to try the track.

    Nice vid but seems a bit harsh to criticise the bike for being too firm as if it's a permanent issue you're stuck with when in reality it's got high-spec fully adjustable suspension you can easily change.

    • @bastrix69
      @bastrix69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm no expert in suspensions, but I owned a MT09SP, which had some decent upgraded suspensions in comparison to the standard version. No matter what settings I dialled into those suspensions, they were still pretty firm. Managed to make it a little bit better but they were too firm for the B roads I ride. I recall some of the reviews on youtube mentioning the same thing.

    • @ragerider6283
      @ragerider6283 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bastrix69 Yep fair point. If the emphasis is on firm sporty settings from the factory, it can be tricky to dial that out. Backing off a bit of preload can be a good place to start in my experience but I appreciate it can be a lot more complicated than that & sometimes more settings can mean more headaches!

    Was following one of these on my Street Triple last weekend - what a machine. By the way, in what universe is 150hp a lack of power?! How often do you really pin it on the public road and how many of us have the skills to carry much more power on the weekend? Certainly not me!

      @Oddjob6120 keep dreaming the 1050RS wouldn't have a chance against the new 2020 1290 R Super Duke. I have the new SDR, don't underestimate how well it handles, not only that got good 40+ ft/lbs of torque in pulling out of corner's.

    I know there's the double light tradition but I think Triumph are missing a trick. Their triangle logo would look great if the reproduced it as their headlight design on the non retro bikes. Create new traditions! KTMs Duke lights are almost triangular. Triumph could make a really tasteful light cluster.

    Test rode one of these and a Street Triple RS very recently. Currently I have a 660cc Striple S derestricted to 94BHP. The extra torque and driveability means the 660cc Striple is getting traded in for a Speed Triple on the current deal. The Street Triple RS, whilst better than my current one, didn't seem a massive jump up. The Speed Triple does.

      See , if I have to say their are flip sides to the argument.
      My Speed Triple 1050 RS isn't as flickable as my 94 BHP 660cc Street Triple was (it was a destricted A2 version). It's a reasonable bit heavier. The 1050 is a more "meaty" bike !!
      The 1050 engine is a whole load more torquey, so that's what I really preferred.
      The 1050 RS with Arrow pipes makes a glorious sound. A lot better than the 660 I had.
      I haven't ridden the new Speed Triple 1200 RS, but that has been on a bit of a "diet" (weight loss) as compared to the old 1050 Speed Triple I have. So it could ( and I don't know it from personal experience ) be a bit more Street Triple like in handling, but with a whole load more grunt !
      There is no substitute for cubic capacity. (Okay superchargers can help , not sure I'd want turbo lag on a bike )
      The new Speed Triple 1200s are Euro 5, so they probably don't sound as good as the old 1050cc RS I now have.

    Triumph REALLY need to sort out their colours and graphics. This one isnt terrible, but it aint great either. The Street Triple colours this year are absolutely terrible - those day glow flashes look like a 80s tracksuit! It's a shame because I've no doubt they are great bikes but I wouldn't buy one only to then have to pay £1000 on a paint job.

      Agreed. My 2018 Speed RS in white is a stunner with very little of the added red/black decals. The 2019 in black is just awful. Keep the colour scheme simple and the bike will do the rest.

    Motorbike world is puzzling. Why are bikes "track reviewed" when cars aren't generally? Especially when 'very low' punter numbrs are gona subject their "road bike" to a fekn track. If you want a track bike, hire a track ready one or buy one and track the feker.
