PARKING BRAKE PEDAL WON'T STAY DOWN

Try this easy fix if your parking brake won't engage. It's probably just dirt and dust stooping everything from working properly. Just lubricate all of the working joints and parts. Also try to remove dirt and hair.

Good video. I watched this and got motivated to finally go tinker with the parknig brake in my 82 C10. I had the same issue as you. The mechanism is different, but the cause was the same. On the 82, the 3 bolts are in a little different spot, and I had to disconnect the cable and pull the assembly out of the truck. I was able to spray the pivot with about a half a can of brake cleaner. Mine was just moving slow from 40yr old dried up grease.

Thanks man, my 2004 Toyota van is having a similar problem. Definitely all clogged up with dust and dirt. But how the heck is yours so rusted?! Mine doesn't have a hint of rust on it. That thing looks like a part that would be under and outside the truck...

I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 and I’m having this issue. I tried to engage the e-brake and my foot slipped causing it to snap back fast and now when i press it down it won’t engage.

I’m having the same issue in my 2006 Ford Five Hundred. Was your Parking Brake warning light on and the brake engaged?

my '91 ford ranger does the same thing, except now the brake is stuck and won't release. i notice your chevy's assembly is all rusted. same iwth my ranger. i don't how and why these american car makers will chose material that will rust. they should know better that moisture does build up inside the car.

They use bare steel with no regard for people that live in humid areas. Problem is, even if they zinc plated the parts the zinc would wear off in the friction areas leaving the same problem. The cure would require more expensive parts in this area such as rustproof bushings, friction reducing pads to prevent steel on steel rubbing and painting all of the parts.

Sometimes the parking brake will become rusty and it won't hold. In that case you may have to remove the back wheel and clean and lubricate the actual parking brake assembly. Sometimes the cable that pulls the parking brake needs to be adjusted.
