  • In this video I replace the emergency ( parking ) brake pedal. I attribute my successes to god and give him the glory. Your talents are a gift from god. What you do with them is your gift back to god. Make them good gifts.

    I have the exact opposite problem. Pedal will not release. Thought it was a seized cable, but after loosening at the connector under the truck the parking brake was no longer engaged at the wheels and the truck moved freely. The parking brake pedal is on its way out now. Thanks man!

      Glad you got It solved. It seems those brake pedals have some problems, it’s such a simple device to have so many issues.

    There must be some kind of contest between engineers on who can make the hardest bolt to get to. Just went through this today. What a pain in the ass lol.

      I’d call it the first bolt contest. Where the first bolt put on a vehicle during the assembly cannot be removed with out taking every other bolt in the vehicle off first.

    I can't thank you enough for this video. I couldn't figure out how to pull that brake cable off without ordering a specialty tool. I will use a wrench tonight when I complete the other half of this job I started 3 weeks ago. Lol

    By using your video, my mad automotive skills, and an awesome set of tools, I successfully repaired the parking brake on my Sonoma! I used a junkyard part and so the repair cost me all of 20 bucks with lunch and admittance to the pick-n-pull! Some of my own observations: There is a newer and an older design. The older design has a longer cable that goes over the top of the quadrant. Slack in the cable can be maintained by pulling the cable under the truck and using two pair of locking plyers, remove the spring, too. A 14mm deep socket works great to squeeze the barbs on the cable end. Thanks for posting!

      Glad I could be of help, awesome tools do make the job go easier. I didn’t realize there were two different designs, thanks for letting me know. Can’t beat $20. There was a pick and pull by here for a short time and then they closed quickly due to liability reasons, Broke my heart.

    You need to remember you learned these skills ! Not god ! Give yourself credit. Don’t forget that. That goes for everyone. Remember it’s you doing it not anyone else.

    I’ve got a remote starter in mine, too. I don’t use it. I was gonna remove it but it’s pigtailed into the ignition harness 🙄. Closed it up. Never mind. I thought it may have been a cause for parasite drain.

      Did you happen to have electric window that might be aftermarket? Or locks that only locks when the truck is running and unlock when it is not?

      @cw5118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelperkins1878 I do have electric windows but I don’t think it’s aftermarket. Hadn’t considered that. 🤔 I would have to check the lock/unlock with regards to engine on or off.

    Jason
    What do you think the issue is when you can't even get the emergency brake pedal to depress down? I can apply quite a bit of force and emergency brake pedal doesn't budge. 2003 Chevy s10 4.3L 4x4. Thanks

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s probably rusted in the cable somewhere. At least that is what I would suspect. You can find a piece of cable that is run with out the cover on it in the middle somewhere or right below the door and pull it sideways. If it pulls out and moves it is frozen on the side that doesn’t move. Or if it doesn’t move at all in the cable cover then it is rusted up somewhere.

      @@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic Thanks for the quick reply! Wasn't expecting a reply on Thanksgiving. Anyways, I don't quite follow what you mean by sideways when you pull on cable as in driver's side to passenger side or front of vehicle to rear of vehicle. Don't need to reply today
      Enjoy your Thanksgiving! Thanks again for your reply!

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Under the drivers side below the door there should be a section of cable that is bare that isn’t in the outside coating. Instead of trying to pull the cable forward to see if the cable will move and pull in the coating it’s easier to pull it sideways like passenger to drivers side. You can pull it down too, it’s mainly just pulling the cable sideways or perpendicular to the outside cable and it will simulate what the foot lever will do. When you pull it you should be able to watch the rear section where the bare cable goes into the outside section and see if it pulls out some. It should move about an inch or so. If it doesn’t then I would check the rear cables or the parking brake shoes to see if they are rusted up. It should tell you if your problem is forward to the parking brake or to the rear in the cables or parking brake shoes.

      @@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic Ok, so the emergency brake cable moves about 1/2 inch when I did what you said try. The emergency brake pedal goes down and holds as it should. When you pull the brake release the emergency brake pedal comes back up real slow whereas my 2004 Chevy blazer the pedal pops back up fast as it should
      Makes me wonder if it's something going on with the emergency brake pedal unit you replaced in this video. 2003 s10. Should be the same as my 2004 Chevy blazer.

    My dad gave me his S-10 shortly before he passed away. He had this fixed about a year before, but let me tell you, for a truck, (it's on 03), that only has 52,000 miles on it, it is a MONEY PIT. I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra wagon with 209,000 miles on it, and it doesn't cost me nearly as much to keep it going as this S-10. I keep threatening to sell it. And my Hyundai will keep on going. GM just makes crap so cheap and flimsy.

      I imagine the more complicated it is the less likely someone can just repair it with out replacing the whole thing. Also if it was simple it probably wouldn’t break.
