Ohhh! I have a Spanish Greyhound, her name is Catalina and I draw her twice. I'm going to start with pastels and I like paint animals. Thank you for your videos. You are a great artist!!
Superb job! I love the way you handle all the various textures and the very difficult brindle coat. I agree about the mirror. I find it's the most useful tool for drawing accuracy. I use it constantly when doing artwork. All the mistakes jump out immediately when viewed in the reflection!
Lovely work, Emma. I almost gave up painting with pastels, then I discovered Pastelmat. I love it. Have done a couple of commissions on velour too but keep coming back to PM. I love how you’ve handled the brindle coat. It’s difficult but you make it look so easy.
Hello Emma! I am so excited to have found your channel. You have so much talent and you inspire me so much. It is my birthday next month and as a gift to myself, I am going to buy your animal collection from unison! I can't wait to get it!!!
Hey Amysaur, how great! Enjoy those pastels. They are my favourite and I was lucky to be asked to design their animal set with some of my favourite colours. Happy pastelling!
Really beautiful work. I am relatively new to pastels and pastelmat. I tried soft pastels for a base but then had trouble using my pastel pencils over the top. Wanted to draw white fur but it woulen't stick well and thus couldn't highlight how I wanted to. Have you any suggestions to help me Please?
Check out my newest video about whites and you'll see that the strongest colour just doesn't come from the pencils. Make sure you rub your lower layers of pastel into the paper so that it can accept more layers. Also check out some of my videos about painting white...it's often about having the contrast to make 'white' appear as such. This is a very short video about white fur on Pastelmat th-cam.com/video/YsSQEU51DY0/w-d-xo.html
Sorry I'm only seeing this now. Yes the greyhound is a pretty in depth tutorial. You can view that in my library at www.emmacolbertart.com/2021/08/21/greyhound-on-cushion/
Your work is absolutely incredible!!.Do you use fixative after the soft pastel in order to get the pencils to show up? I am having trouble with lighter pencils over very soft darker base pastel..should I be blending the soft into the Pastelmat or using fixative before the pencils??
Hi Patricia, sometimes using fixative on lower layers can work in giving you some tooth back on the paper. I find that if I rub in the lower layers so there is no excess pastel on the surface it will accept new layers. I don't rely on the pencils though as they can never have as much punch as the soft pastels. I use pieces and shards with edges to make light marks.
With this one I drew a grid directly on the paper as it was Pastelmat and you can sketch and rub out on it. But on velour I transfer my sketch as it's not nice to sketch on. You can see a video on how I draw using a grid, and another on how I transfer to velour :-)
You never fail to surprise me with the detail you get from soft pastel sticks. Absolutely beautiful work!! ❤❤❤
Thank you!
I thought I saw the dog blink!! Fantastic
I love your work. Very inspiring. The videos are such good tutorials so informative.

Finally got to watch this fantastic video 😍 what kind, sensitive souls Greyhounds are. You’ve captured this perfectly.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️🐶x
Stunning! You captured her perfectly. The level of detail, especially with a brindle, is amazing!
Thanks Nancy! Definitely one of the trickier coats I find :-)
I absolutly enjoyed watching this one, Thanks for sharing.

Exactly Gloria! It's a great tool. Even taking progress pictures and looking at it reduced in size is helpful sometimes.
Fantastic work again 😁 great help as well
Phenomenal Emma, your work is simply breathtakingly amazing.
Thank you Emma! I think you are wonderful..

Do you have a technique making the outline? Or you draw freehand?thanks!

What level is this on your patrons page?
