Kaleb FE thinks we can't go to Antarctica. Not only do we prove him wrong, we then destroy Flat Earth itself using the Antarctic continent.

So I drove home parking my car on the road outside where a sign read “permit holders only”, so it turns out I don’t have a car either, hence none of the above actually happened. Funny old world.

I’ve always thought the arguments about the lack of flights in the southern hemisphere to be laughable, so I asked questions to some of my fellow cruisers. We had a couple from Australia. I asked how they got to Buenos Aires? A direct flight from Sydney to Santiago. Oh, how long was your flight? About 12 hours…. Interesting. Another couple from South Africa. How did you get to Buenos Aires? A direct flight from Johannesburg to Sao Paulo. How long was it? 12 hours. Interesting! Meanwhile my flight from Atlanta to Buenos Aires was about 10.5 hours. No idea how all of these flight times would work on their crazy flat earth southern hemisphere geography.

      @johnthefactfddict3281 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

so true, a permit is often just a simple "I am doing this and I followed all the rules to do it in an approved manner"
and sometimes you do things without a permit, and as long as you follow the rules and regulations you can have the consequences waived for doing it without permission(because construction can be killed by weather so it is sometimes only viable to ask forgiveness than permission)
as I am anonymous I will share a story of a non-permit home improvement my family did long ago
we wanted to power our new shed for basic lights and a radio, and maybe something like a drill press, so regulations for trenching say a certain depth and placing detection tape for fixed powered runs, but we just buried a conduit and instead of making it fixed power, it became a 12awg extension cord, if it ever gets damaged or shorts out, the breaker and GFCI it is runt to by literally plugging it in will trip
and disconnection is covered by the fact it is not directly wired, it is literally an extension cord
and we did have some GFCI tripping after a hard storm once, so we just unplugged it and the issue went away till it dried up
suffice to say, we did not get a permit to electrify the shed, nor to even install it where we did(local zoning laws are stupid say a shed basically has to be attached to your home(less than 10ft away) even if all other regulations are followed or it counts as a second home, despite a lack of any basic utilities)
and so we are technically against regulation, but nobody has punished us because it made sense to place it where it is and moving it would be too difficult and expensive and would just hurt everyone involved to enforce, and ironically several neighbors have similar sheds beyond the distance defined and don't get yelled at
point is a permit is actually really easy to get compared to the actual expense of a project/trip and even without it you tend to be ignored if you follow all reasonable regulations
so go to Antarctica without a permit, camp on the deadly cold shores, as long as you leave nothing behind on Antarctica(trash, gear, ect) nobody is likely to complain
the treaty is just to preserve the last 100% natural place on our planet from being torn up and polluted, we already feel the shame of pollution(or we should) and we are protecting the last remnant of our planet(it doesn't hurt that it is just too dam hard to stay alive out there without regular supply shipments)
so why does the treaty exist? so we have official agreement that we shouldn't try to settle there or damage the ecosystem or environment(as without official agreement countries can get away with it with no major repercussions)
the treaty is just a way to agree officially that we should not be stupid and try to use Antarctica as living space or military stations
there is almost no technology there, definitely no forbidden radar stations or guard posts
stop being stupid and just go there, prove us wrong by coming back with a video of you being sent away, of shut up and accept the globe as it is

They see the line saying a permit "can be denied" and assume it means anyone who isn't willing to maintain "The Lie" will be denied for miscellaneous reasons. I would actually dread one of the flerfs filling out that form, getting denied for some technicality, and then waving that denial around as further evidence. The issue is that they could be a liar who lives off the gullible "real" Flat earth community who knew what would get them denied, did it intentionally, and then continues to lie about why they were denied. OR they could be a "real" Flat earther and simply made a mistake on the form and don't have the courage (or intelligence?) to admit they made a mistake. If either of those happened it would make it even harder for a "real" and gullible Flat earther to be convinced to try again. Furthermore, even if one of the Liars DID try to fill out the form and was approved to visit they would either lie about getting denied (with no proof as usual), simply ignore it and never publically admit they tried (continuing the current argument), or take the trip and then argue that they only visited the "approved areas of ice before you reach The Wall".

Not to mention, memory alteration is incredibly unstable, and would result in noticable changes in the personality of the subject. Also, the effects wear off over time, so even in the unlikely situation that the hypnosis works and isn’t noticeable in the first place, they would need to get the hypnosis redone every few months or so (granted, this is easier to perform than an induction, but it means they’d either have to be kidnapped or return willingly)

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) - the group of astronomers that names objects in our solar system - planets originally were defined as objects that moved in the night sky with respect to a background of fixed stars. It wasn’t until the 2006 that astronomers attending the IAU General Assembly in Prague agreed on a formal definition of the word.
The definition of a planet adopted by the IAU says a planet must do three things:
It must orbit a star (in our cosmic neighborhood, the Sun).
It must be big enough to have enough gravity to force it into a spherical shape.

I know someone who has been across Antarctica from one side to the other by crossing the geographic south pole. He said it was so strange but beautiful. They spent several days at the research station performing some experiments and talking to the people that were there long term, which is usually a few months. He also said that were happy to stop somewhere with heat for a while. They went during the southern hemisphere's summer for the longer daylight. It's extremely dangerous terrain. They all took pictures at the south pole in Sir Edmund Hillary poses. To see the stars in such an environment is crazy. He didn't recognize any constellations but it was so clear, even if they only had one or two hours of darkness to see it. Oddly enough, no ice walls. Guess the White Walkers are coming.

It's simple really. Most of them don't live in the Southern Hemisphere, thus they don't think about it. It's why they're so quick to dismiss and ignore any arguments that involve it. The ones who are willing to acknowledge its existence tend to treat it almost like a mysterious and unknowable locale, as if the last 2500+ years of cartographic tradition were limited solely to the northern half of the globe.
The part that continues to confuse me is that everything above also applies to the ones who DO live in the Southern Hemisphere.

Having done that trip in both directions in a time consistent with round earth distances and a decidedly subsonic VC10, I find the Flat Earth entirely unconvincing. There are two things that can happen on a heliocentric globe earth model that can NOT happen on a flat earth globe model:
Number 1: On the globe model, the sun can be up for more than 24 hours straight within the Antarctic Circle. On a flat model the sun would have to create a ring around the entire perimeter while also having a smaller illuminated area that goes around the globe.
Number 2: The dance of stars on a globe is very distinctive in a way that can not be replicated on a flat mode. Specifically that there are exactly two points that stars orbit around (North Star and Southern Cross) that are directly opposite each other as seen from any point (where they are visible) on the globe. On a flat model, you can satisfy part of the requirements and results, but not ALL of them.
Alas, both of these require the flatie to travel thousands of miles, and we all know that won't happen.

Why do we still dispute whether the earth is flat or a sphere? There is more than enough evidence that it IS NOT FLAT. Don't you think we should move on?

A friend of a friend of mine *hiked* across Antarctica. I don't think he (Arved Fuchs) lied to everybody, including all his friends, his parents and the rest of his family. And obviously he had no problem obtaining a permit.

What causes water to "find its own level"? It's like there is some kind of FORCE acting upon it 🤔

Water doesn't find its own level.
Oddly, it conforms to the topography beneath it to a slight but measurable degree

Also, there's that thing about gravity not actually being a force. Gravity is a thing - and to you me and most lay folk, gravity seems like a force, but technically gravity is _not_ a force.
      Sorry. 😬

@@assininecomment1630 Gravity is one of the four fundamental interactions. Now, general relativity suggests that gravity is the result of the curvature of space-time by mass. Which begs the question, "how does mass distort space-time?"
      Gravity.
It's a force, same as the strong and weak nuclear forces/interactions.
Unless you have a better explanation of how mass distorts space-time.

Caleb should try to climb Mt. Everest. The approvals and permits required therefore prove mt Everest is fake!

I've worked in Antarctica, several times. At New Zealand's Scott Base and at the South Pole Station. You can't just jump on any plane. I applied for 8 years before I even got an interview. I worked as a Carpenter building, and renovating there. And on a project called Ice Cube. Antarctica is an amazing place and I hold it very close to my heart. My Hero Shackleton who made the hardest call in the history of exploration was an amazing leader. These people who say this crap drive me nuts. Learning is important. This dude just stopped.
